I really adore this dance. I think it captured both the fun and desperation that I feel in the lyrics. The transitions are so creative and the stage always feels like cohesive moving parts. Each member seems to work very hard on being in sync and showcasing that. In fact, this is an extremely in sync practice, maybe one of the most in sync I’ve seen while doing these videos! However...it was a bad choice to have their hair down. The girls, especially Sieun, fiddle with it throughout and it kinda gets in the way.
Again, this is not a contest. This is really just based move by move on one single video. Honestly, I could see why someone would think most of them are the “best” dancer in the group. But, if you are curious, this is how much time the video was focused on each member:
Seeun = 50s
Sieun = 35s
Isa = 35s
Sumin = 29s
J = 23s
Yoon = 8s
Here is what I noticed about each member:
Seeun
Really quite perfect throughout. She clearly had amazing control of her whole body and great musicality. She seems aware of her body from head to toe throughout the dance and has notably good hip movements. There were even many moments where I almost gave the focus to her but didn’t. Some angles are a bit awkward and sometimes she rushes moves but that’s all. Oddly enough, when looking into it, she is often ranked as one of the “worst” dancers in the group. Perhaps she is better in this practice video than usual? I haven’t looked at anything else of them so maybe that’s the case. Sorry if this opinion is unpopular but I truly watched every member per move thrice over and she continuously stands out to me the whole time I was quite surprised.
Sieun
Very eye catching, I love how she dances. When I first saw this practice casually, my eyes were on her the whole time. Not only does she bring the drama and stage presence but she is very fluid in her movement throughout the dance. Sometimes her movements are a bit too much though and it leads to frequent awkward positioning, especially with her head, but other times she steals the show.
Isa
Quite similar to Sieun actually. She has great moves and an amazing sense for what she can do to enhance things and embody the mood of the song. BUT they definitely need some refinement as she also runs into messy or even incorrect moments throughout. However, she seems to have a bit more control than Sieun in many areas. Sometimes Sieun does a little better than her with that added extra but sometimes Isa’s softer, more controlled moves are what is needed. Sorry to compare them this whole time but if I just talked about Isa alone it may sound redundant with Sieun.
Sumin
Very competent in her movements especially with her chest. She is perhaps the cleanest throughout the dance but not very fluid besides her torso moves. Also...she tends to make quite a few mistakes on some moves yet is also sometimes the only one to do a move perfectly lol. So perhaps she’s inconsistent? But her best is very very good.
J
Although she’s cleaner than most members in this performance, she also has less moments where she emphasizes a move (like with head tilts, hip movements, shoulder movements etc). She also still does have some moves that are awkward or incomplete but they aren’t common. So overall, I’d say she’s consistently good even if not “the best” but, with the way my video is set up, it doesn’t give her the credit she deserves.
Yoon
I am actually surprised as, for some reason, I thought Yoon was a dance liner. Although she does well in this performance, there are many times she’s a bit off and misses details or even does the wrong thing. She also misses many of those tiny musicality cues in the choreo that match the music. However, she still seems to have an overall sense for what is best to do and definitely adds to moves when she can but perhaps she just hasn’t picked it up as quickly. I would think it may just be due to less experience dancing and therefore less control or awareness over her body. Honestly, I see a lot of the same strengths and weaknesses in myself so I’m definitely not bashing her.
