Another nice installation guys! Curious to know how you run lawn irrigation along the edges. How close to the 3/4" gravel can you trench as well as how close can you place the sprinkler bodies to the edge of the paver border and the concrete used to lock it all in without compromising the stability?
@TheChristianHardscaper

Hey bro. Im a fellow scaper. From.canada. i watch all ur vids. Im switching after years of failures to concrete edge restraint. But how do i compact and set poly ? Concrete first or after. I tried after compacting all edge pavers pushed out a bit ...? If i concrete first the borders to hold it in ? Or ....
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 9 ай бұрын
@@danknugz7605 Nice man, thanks for the support! I typically do the concrete first and tamp lightly around the edges during poly. That is why we set the border pavers a 1/4" higher than the main pavers and set them in place with hammers, so that we do not have to tamp them so hard during the polymeric sand process. Another good way is to do the concrete then do the poly while the concrete is still wet. that way compacting will not ruin the bond.

Should you always leave a gap between the pavers and the house foundation? Do you need to install any edging, or is chip stone enough to fill the gap and keep the pavers from moving?
@TheChristianHardscaper

In my opinion, absolutely. It allows the pavers room to move slightly through freeze/thaw months.

Loving the channel, learning alot. How do you estimate the base materials? I want to build a 12' x 29' patio. Augusta, Georgia, sandy soil conitions.
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the support and feedback! So for the base stone, I calculate how many cubic yards I need. You find that by getting your square feet. Lets say 12'x30' (360 sq ft). to find cubic feet, you need to multiply 360 x the depth of the stone. So for 6" the number to multiply is .5 because it is 1/2 of a foot. So 360 x .5 = 180 cubic feet. 1 cubic yard is 27 cubic feet. so 180 divided by 27 =6.6 cubic yards of 3/4 stone needed for the base.

I have a patio stone with a groove pattern in it, I was wondering if that shallow groove should be filled with polymeric sand/ will it chip out over time or should I somehow try and make sure the grooves are cleaned out before setting the sand?
@TheChristianHardscaper

Looks good! Do you ever seal the paver patios you guys build? Just finished a patio and we are wondering the pros/cons.
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 9 ай бұрын
Thank you! I don't ever seal the patios I install. All the manufacturers say you need to wait a minimum of 60 days after install anyway for the concrete to cure and poly sand to set. Plus, there are many things that could go wrong and mess up the look of the pavers. Then you have to do it every year or every other year.... It just is not a service that I want to offer, to much headache for such a small thing... Maybe someday with proper training and understanding I might get into it, but not at this point.

I have been watching all your videos and became a huge fan. In fact, i tore our my patio which i used sand for a base and redoing the whole thing. I do have a question which maybe later in this video. My pavers are not great like the ones you used we had several thousand dollars in pavors and could not afford to buy new 3 pcs sets. So my pavors are 16x16 square and have a pattern. After watching your videos though i am not following the pattern and laying them out as ramdon as i can and it looks much better. As i have got a good amount done i have concerns that the joints are tight. Like 1/16th tight and internet says not to use polymeric sand. The only option would be to lay like tile floors with spacersbut then i worried about compacting and the pavers shifting. I actually stopped for a bit because i did not know what was best. Seeing this job gives me a since of direction. Sounds like your going to use the polymeric sand with this tight joint. Are you feeling that this is going too work with no issues? Do you think i am heading down the correct path keeping the blocks as tight as possible? Would love to know your opinion.
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 9 ай бұрын
Hey there, thanks for the support! You can use polymeric sand for that joint size, it may not fill every joint 100% but is better than pretty much any other product out there.... You can space them out with tile spacers and that would most likely help with polymeric sand lasting longer but it is totally up to you. Either way will work for you✌
@troyirving755
@troyirving755 9 ай бұрын
Yes. Watching this video helped me make the decision. The joint lines are tight but I will be patient and work as much polymeric sand in as possible and compact. Has to be better than not using it. I am doing this by myself and this patio in total will be over 2,000 sq. Ft. I have done every step exactly as you discussed. I thank you for elevating my hardscaping ability.

Hey man, it is just me and Ben. My nephews help out here and there during the summer and school vacations, but that is it. But the 2 of us can get a lot done, not as fast as a big crew of guys but that's ok. It is all about selling what you are confident in completing with only 2 guys. And having clear communication with the customer on how long you think the project will take. If they are fine with your price and estimated time of completion, good to go! Nothing wrong with trying a couple small patios / walkways to give it a try. Then the more projects you do, the better you will get. Good luck if you decide to give it a go! ✌
