SUVs took over normal cars because they are classified as "light trucks", which aren't subject to the same safety and emissions standards as regular cars and are therefore more profitable for auto makers. Yammie hit a lot of great points. Money is tight. I'm 45 and I have a naked 750. Perfect do all bike. And I do sometimes hit 140 mph on an open country road. But I've always been frugal. A $6000 city motorcycle is perfect for most people. I don't adventure ride. I don't highway ride. I'm just a normal dad working a normal job. Also I'm a certified motorcycle mechanic. My bike is easy to maintenance. Also a big plus. It saves me thousands of dollars in the long run.

95% of Western riders walk past the bike that is most suitable for their use case and put more money than they have to on the counter for something that they don't need and will be quite frankly a PITA for 95% of the riding that they do, although I do see this trend changing in more recent times. A combination of better middle weight offerings from the big 4, Triumph and Royal Enfield, and a growing percentage of the market now having thinner wallets, does appear to be changing things.

I guess I'm the exception. I'm 60 years old and ride a 2022 bought new in 22 GSXR 750. It's my last hooray and will ride it until I can't! I'm still in shape and able to carve the mountain curves. Sure it has limits as far as long rides in the comfort department, but I don't care. I'm going out with a bang! One day I may have to sell it and find something more comfortable, but not until I decide that I'm ready. As for now, I still am enjoying the thrill! It is so much better than my old Kawasaki 1997 ZX7R that I bought new back in the day. That thing was heavy! My bike is now sub 400 lbs. Lots of mods. And more to come. It's my drug of choice! You are only as old as you think you are! Stay young in your mind and stay in shape and you will be able to do more than you think!

They are very similar. The big difference is torque. My Ducati ST2 has a 929cc engine. It will drift and spin the tire all around town. It always needs a new rear tire. My Gxs S750 is a naked gsx R750. It does 0-60 on 3 seconds 0-100 in 5. It doesn't waste the torque spinning. It grips and goes. And is lighter.

I bought a 2024 BMW s1000rr not because I plan to go 190mph on the high way just to show people how big my nuts are, but simply because of the technology and how safe/forgiving it is. I like the fact that with it I’ll be prepared to do anything I want. Hit some curves in the mountains, do straight lines down the highway, take it to the track, or simply just cruise around my city. I’m not big on trying to be the fastest but to know that I can hang with the best of them if I wanted/needed too then it’s nice to know.

Big bikes with stupendous horsepower is simply too much singleminded fun. When I crack open that throttle, I want my eyeballs to retract and my brain fried. @@SamslamminCars I had my first Beetle, back in the early 80's. It was a paddock basher, as we say in Australia. I had a later Superbug (55hp!) which I had registered and drove on the road and a couple of Kombi vans after that. I have no doubt that your bike is a blast. Way to much bike for my ability to be ridden with any vigour, especially given our draconian speed limits and penalties for breaking them.

Power wheelies on tap & the short wheel base is a blast in the city. Perfect all around in my opinion.

Coming from the past 10 years of Naked bikes and super bikes. My most recent was a ZX14r. This year i have a new Tiger 1200 and couldnt be happier. It still has enough performance to match my riding style for 90% of what i ever did on the 1400. But now i have unmatched comfort, and speed gets old, and gets boring, you get used too it, and you cant always use it. But comfort is used 100% of your time when riding. And comfort doesnt go out of style. Sport bikes are cool if you let your ego get away from you. But they arent fun to live with. Even if they put a smile on your face 10% of the time.

I think that one of the reasons that sales of sportbikes is decreasing is that the bigger ADV bikes are so powerful. when you get 150+ hp AND the versatility and comfort, and at the same time get good to excellent handling for trackdays - 'Add the economy to that and people choose a Tracer 9, Multistrada V4 or even Pan America.

Please indulge me. I am 52 y/o and still ride my 2015 model (Gen 4) Kawasaki ZX10R, which I bought brand new at the time at the age of 43. I enjoy my occasional road trips (say 900 miles over weekends) to compliment my shorter road riding stay at home weekends (about 60 miles). Believe me when I say this: My ZX proved to be the most comfortable bike of all the bikes I have ever ridden, whether I go for a short ride or a road trip. I ascribe this mainly to the ergonomics of my seating position coupled with the aerodynamics that sport bikes generally offer. In a nutshell, the ZX10R was most suited for my riding needs and my riding style. About my riding style: around neighborhoods and suburbs I ride defensively and take it easy, but on the freeways there will be times on my road trips for example where I would maintain a cruising speed of 120mph without tucking in and do the occasional sprint ("pulls" as you Americans say) to 160mph and more (I live in South Africa where traffic law enforcement is rather absent) where only a slight tucking-in is necessary. I make a point of test-riding all the latest and greatest of bikes that are rolled out every year (S1000RR's, Busas, MT09's, variety of sport bikes you name it) and I have not been able (yet) to replicate my current riding style with anyone of them. In conclusion, I look at a motorcycle that offers both speed and comfort and price does not matter to me. I don't care about looks and brand loyalty, only those two things matter to me.

My point is detuned i4 with a classic firing order, even a 600, sounds really sweet and works really smooth and also has enough juice for the city. I'm going to get me an i4 sport tourer and I wouldn't want to trade it for an adventure. However, I'd like a dedicated middleweight adventure bike to put luggage on and ride around the country for a few weeks.
