Boogie, you make my heart melt. And here's why: I started watching your channel because of video games. I'm a casual gamer, with little free time, so channels like yours help me decide which games to give time to. I loved your honest, raw takes on games. I loved how non-extreme you were. You always present the good along side the bad, and I love that. Then I started watching your vlogs. And your journey through life, and your persistence is just so inspiring to me. I love that you are real about what has happened to you, you don't sugar coat it. you know you have been through some really rough things, and as a result, you have some rough moments. you persist through it. People seem to think the only way you can be positive is to look only at the good. But I think true strength and positivity comes when you see and recognize the bad, admit how it has hurt you, and try to be a good person anyway. We all have our demons. We have all had our demonic moments. sometimes you get so possessed by past trauma, you become it. and it's not okay, and you recognize that, and you try to move past it. I will never know all of you, as a viewer. Even if I was a close friend, there are still thoughts, still feeling, that you would not share. Everyone has a piece of themselves that is truly only for themselves. and that's okay. Share with us as much or as little as you wish. Just know that you always have people on the sidelines rooting for you (-: P.S. I'm tackling my bad habit, in part, because of you. your health journey has inspired me to quit smoking. thank you for that.

after I watched your initial video about the divorce... I called my gf in basically tears to say that I didn't want my anxiety and depression issues to eventually turn her away from me. It is rough, I like think I am a really decent person, but..When anxiety or depression closes in on me... I shut down. No yelling or screaming or crazy.. I just.. go silent.. and In my head I am pleading with myself to shake it off.. but I never can.. Anyways.. goodluck boogie, life is hard. Thanks for letting us see as much of you as you feel comfortable with.

I don't think there is a single person on the planet that knows who I really am on the inside. I've been married for 11 years! Even though we are happily married, does my husband know every single thing I think and do? Nope. He doesn't see every side of me (he knows me best, but he isn't a mind reader). He sees one side (the most honest one that exists outside my head), my kids see another, my friends another, my family another, and on and on....why people assume they truly know everything about you is beyond me.

@Airguitarfooker
@Airguitarfooker 6 жыл бұрын
I study this. It could be a case of a narcissistic personality disorder or antisocial personality disorder. It could also be a coping-mechanism from Paul, seeing a dead body and getting shocked, which could trigger him into laughter and "fooling around". We don't know this. But it's a god damn stupid behaviour.
@imstarbuck1465
@imstarbuck1465 6 жыл бұрын
+Airguitarfooker Yeah, agree with these possibilities. I have no doubt he is a narcissist and suffering from some form of personality disorder. I thought about the "coping behavior" scenario. Possibly true in the moment, but he did have plenty of time to consider whether to publish or not before the video was uploaded. He knew what he was doing. I think he has an ego that continually needs to be fed - for whatever reason we may not ever know.

6:14 That's so true. I had a really good CIO in this company I worked for years ago who had a saying similar to what you say here. "Always communicate even if it feels like you are over communicating because if you say nothing, people assume the worst." It's something I've lived by ever since then and it works. In the beginning it was quite uncomfortable because I did feel like I was over communicating and putting too much of myself out there and I feared that saying too much would make people assume the worst about me. However once I put this into practice the opposite happened. It's probably an offshoot of being raised in an abusive environment to choose silence because people like us are raised to stay quiet so we don't talk about the abuse and other reasons like feeling shame, etc. In my adult life I've learned that silence is bad in any environment and I learned that first in my professional life. It's still uncomfortable even to this day to speak my mind, but it's a lot easier than it was 20 years ago and definitely very rewarding. The positive impact it had on my life and the turn around I saw in how people interact with me further encouraged me to continue doing this even if it does stretch my comfort zone a bit. I love that you are so open and you are being yourself even though you are showing a part of you. Of course I understand it's not ALL of you, your whole person, and you're right that no one on social media shows everything about themselves. We wear many hats and we choose which hat to wear in every situation in life even outside social media. I love that you are open about topics that you are uncomfortable with and you challenge yourself and talk about it to overcome that because everyone struggles with that and to see you conquering those touchy topics no one else wants to talk about helps the rest of us who have similar struggles in our lives. "Do I say this, do I not say this? Did I piss someone off? Did I hurt someone's feelings?" Questions like that keep me up all night sometimes but in the end I've always felt relief with the results of being as open as I can because there's no room for anyone to "fill in the gaps" as you so accurately described, and in return others around me are more open to me as well. It's a good thing.

One of the hardest things I had to learn when first coming into the youtube/twitch communities was connection is a huge part of the experience but there is a huge caveat to the situation. You get emotionally invested in content creators and after some interaction with the creator you want to feel like the creator is also invested in you as well. So, lets rewind to 2008. I had to come to grips with the fact that you may be cordial with a content creator but, you're not their friend. It's a semi-personal experience which can create a false narrative in folks minds. *the friendship aspect in my case* I was in my mid 20's, fresh out of a failed marriage, and seeking some sort of connection. Being an avid gamer I ran across a youtuber I enjoyed talking about they were going to be playing games live on twitch. I had been coming and consuming their content here on youtube for years at this point and to be able to sit and talk to this person, who I was such a fan of, led me to their live streams. But it also led me down the path of making the assumption I knew that person. Now granted, it was all created in my weakened mental state due to the transition I was going through. But Boogie I have to say I have never felt that way with you. You ride that line of personable, approachable, and yet guarded. And to me that has always felt like a great thing due to the fact that it always feels like a creator/fan dynamic nothing more nothing less. So sir, keep up all the amazing work and 399 is right around the corner.

I have no doubt that there will be a woman in your future who accepts and values every bit of what makes you who you are, Boogie. The best thing you can do right now is get to know yourself so that when you start dating again, you'll know what kind of person would be a good fit with all your attributes and your perfect imperfections. I wrote this before under one of his vids, I'll do it again here: I would like to see boogie put a little more effort into his personas. Just doing a weird accent while otherwise doing no change whatsoever to his appearance is somewhat lazy, mostly because it wouldn't take much to get it right. You wanna play some sort of Southerner, get the right kind of shirt and the cowboy hat, maybe put a few typical texan items in the background. Or take Francis. A rageball like that should always have scruffy hair and wear ill-fitting t-shirts with faded out motives of typical nerd-heros, maybe with a few food-stains on them. Plus maybe slightly damaged glasses, just anything that would visually hint on his badly controlled temper and social ineptitude. If you do it like that, people will find it much easier to differ between the act and the "real thing".

I also think it is like John Green said, "The truth resists symplicity". The truth is complex and it doesn't fit into some people's world view, and those are the type to make things up like that. It is much easier to put someone into a box and make them a "them" as opposed to imagining everyone as an unique and complicated individual like we all imagine ourselves.
@BlokeOzzie
@BlokeOzzie 6 жыл бұрын
Conversely, the simplest explanation to something is often the correct one; in Boogie's case, the situation with his divorce is simply - it broke down over relatively mundane things. The conspiracy theorists then add the unnecessary layers of BS and complexity on top of that because they need it to be something "spectacular" or complicated.
@BlazeOGlory
@BlazeOGlory 6 жыл бұрын
OzzieBloke I agree that the relationship broke down over everyday,mundane things but there is often more than 1 thing wrong hence the lack of simplicity. The thing ive found in my own life though is that its almost never the simple answer with me. That's why I try to imagine people and situations complexly.I'm glad he's doing well about it though. Boogie is awesome
@BlokeOzzie
@BlokeOzzie 6 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, and I'm certainly not trying to suggest that relationships are simple. Multiple factors often play into whether they succeed or fail. But, it's not anyone's place to suggest one way or the other when it comes to the affairs of others; Boog shares as much as he does, and we the viewers should just be content with that, and not fabricate anything more on top of it.

I really would love a podcast from ya man! You’re voice is so soothing to me and I love your rambling videos. It really helps me relax and lower my anxiety levels. Whenever I watch your videos, I feel like we are having a personal conversation and it really touches me for reasons unknown to even myself. I one day hope to get to meet you in person and be able to have a conversation with you. You are hands down my favorite creator on this platform. Please keep up the amazing work for fans like me.

Loving the frequent uploads! If it helps, just record yourself rambling about things that happened or what you think. I’d watch hours of that :)

I don't think anyone is really the person they try to come across as, even in real life. I think everyone tries to be closer to the person they want to be, rather than who they are.

Yes! Make more of these 'normal' videos this coming year, Boogie. I'm not into gaming, nor character playing, - I find it rather angry and aggressive, - but these 'real videos' are golden. I only watch these from you every once in a while in the past 7 years (you were one of my first channels that I subscribed to), so would watch more often if you made them more frequently. ~ Happy Healthy New Year, Boogie! xxx

the first video i ever saw of you was the francis candy crush video I soon after saw more videos that werent in francis character and as a 32 year old gamer who grew up in a home with only a Pos Abusive father my drug addicted mother was gone long before my 2nd birthday. i met her once at 16 along with all my other maternal side of the fsmily for the one and only time. she stayed wasted and benzoed out most of the week and i came home a week early. fortunately prior to my 15th birthday my freshman year of high school i was rescued and adopted by my paternal grandfather who just turned 91 in september. your a great guy boogie your willingness to share im sure touches countless others who can also relate. i was a very damaged person who got his morals from a monster and going to a normal situation suddenly halfway throughfreshman year was a shock to the system. it took unti my late twenties to really begin to change and unlearn all these terrible morals and habits and ways of thinking.

Here's my 2 cents. It takes a certain amount of life experience to understand what you are explaining Boogie. See a 19 or 20 year old isn't going to understand that you go thru stages in your life as you go thru life. And all of those stages become part of who you are when you get to a certain age. They can't understand this because they're just getting started on their stages so all they know about them selves is who they are now, which is sort of one dimensional. I know because When I was younger I was a metalhead and I considered myself a 100% metalhead with piss and vinegar running thru my veins, very one dimensional. Now after living thru more than a few things in life I totally understand that people are not one dimensional, so now I am a metalhead sometimes, I'm a clown other times, I'm a sad boy at other times, and that's all part of being human. My point is that no one is just one thing, but most people don't see that until they've been several different things themselves if that makes any sense.

I agree that it takes a lot of experience but that doesn’t mean you need to be a certain age like for someone like me who’s gone through a lot at a young age and only being 18 I feel like I completely understand what he’s talking about on his rambling videos about his life.

I do agree with you and I've been there too (still finding things out of course, that's part of your growth as a human being)...but I think certain people can and are empathetic and understanding at any age. Haha honestly I've met 8 year olds more understanding and compassionate than 35 year olds (including their parents) whether that's bc of bitter life experiences or their personality idk. I think the point I'm trying to make is that people can be as empathetic as they want to be. Sorry for rambling. xD

Navajo 23 dude, this is childhood trauma. Childhood is the most formative time of your life, so it's gonna stick with him and it's gonna be nearly impossible for him to get over. But he has been getting his shit together. I'm not much of a boogie fan (His stuff isn't really my cup of tea), but I have been casually following how he's been doing through the surgery and divorce. If you look at some of his older videos, it gets clear, at least to me, that he's getting his shit together. Right now he's in a better state physically and mentally than in years, which I would consider getting shit together. And lastly, if boogie can't be anyone's hero because he's a phoney, nobody on the platform can, he's probably one of the most open people I've watched, few people ever talk about their personal life in this detail. I don't care if you don't like him, again, I'm nowhere near his biggest fan, but to me your claim that he hasn't been getting his shit together and that he shouldn't be so affected by this stuff that was the thing that caused his massive obesity is a little rediculous.

That ending broke my heart. Boogie is not this confident and well-spoken professional man in 'real life' (duh). He's a huge nerd like the rest of us that just has a really public job which is made even more challenging by his mental disorders, obesity, and divorce. He's got personal demons like everyone else and even shares them with the world. This was a huge shock to me cause it's so easy to forget about the other sides of people online and him, and think that's all there is to them when really human beings are so much more complex. Those issues he's got are no doubt stressing him the heck out and he's even sharing a lot of it on the internet. That's super brave and inspires me to be a more authentic person and opener about my issues. I have anxiety too and can only imagine how terrifying this kind of job would be to have with the mental illness. I hope you can become this confident outside the internet because people need to see this amazing and positive side of you instead of all the problems! Love you too boogie

A little bit of wisdom I heard a while ago, and I don't know its origin, is that each person is actually 3 people. There's the person they show to the outside world, there's the person they show to their close friends, and the truest version of them is the person they show no one, but who makes every decision they make. No one will ever see exactly who you are, no matter who you are, but you are the person behind every single decision you make. I always thought that was an interesting way to look at things and has effected how I see myself and other people.

We don't have to know all of you to like you and you don't have to be perfect to be worth liking. Don't dismiss the gravity of how many people like you, Boogie. This portrayal of yourself is still part of you, even if only a small part. People who aren't perfect, people who have real life problems like the rest of us, are my favorite kind of people. I have a feeling I'm not alone in feeling that way. You're doing something right to have such a massive fan base. Stay awesome, Boogie.

You gotta own the territory of having 4 million subs. And accept that some people can only ever be critics. Can’t take it to heart. If they had valuable things to teach you, where is their channel with 4 million subs? Can’t take comments to heart. Own your territory man. No shame in that. Keep on keeping on!
