Tbf that's how you had to do it originally. You had a hard ten minute time limit for videos. Every let's player was doing it, and 1k views back in the early days of youtube was very good. Tens of thousands meant you were a big channel, hundreds of thousands meant you went viral. KZfaq was also a LOT smaller, a LOT less people were browsing, so if you could retain those 1k viewers through tens or hundreds of parts then you were doing pretty good. The time limit was raised to 30 for a select few after a few years...I think it was for partnered channels? Then it was a big thing for everyone to be able to do 30 minute videos, then it was a _massive_ thing when they announced hour long+ videos but no one had any reason to do them since yeah, more videos meant more views. Quantity over quality was the way you played the algorithm, until they changed the algorithm. DSP definitely spammed his channel and played quantity over quality far past the point it was a viable strategy but to imply he was never pulling decent numbers for the time isn't true. He had enough fans to hold a small panel and fill most of the room at a convention, another big deal for the time. And he got hired by Machinima towards the begininng of the company, so he got a very good contract and was around to benefit from the height of Machinima. Not saying this to defend his honor or something, I just think the context of _how good Phil had it on KZfaq_ back then is important to understand just how much he's thrown away in his life because he has no business sense, is far too stubborn/lazy to change, and he just throws away valuable relationships regardless of how logically beneficial they are to him (FGC, Hutch/Machinima, Rambo and Howard and Respect the Pact, etc.)
