The historic marker where John Wilkes Booth was killed is in the median on Route 301 in Port Royal Virginia. There is an unauthorized makeshift pullover where you can park,...and walk about 30 yards to see the marker. There is also a sign saying any digging is against the law. Not much to see,..but,..still worthwhile.

Digging is against the law? Did you notice any reason people might want to dig there? That's a bit weird, I've been in a lot of places I would assume it's illegal to dig without permission, city hall, public parks, Walmart, peoples front lawns, but I've never seen a digging is illegal sign.

@@HadToChangeMyName_KZfaqSucks I believe it is because people would be trying to search for artifacts,...and it is on Federal property. There is an adjacent military base across the street which may be the reason.

Jerry, once again you have exceeded yourself!!! A fabulous history lesson that I don't think any of us subscribers knew about! That cemetery blocking a family from exhuming and a judge fully preventing them from determining exactly who is buried in their family-owned plot is outrageous, particularly as it involves the history surrounding a very important historical event. Frankly, I believe the family's account. Why would they make that up? They were even told to keep it secret! The family should make another attempt so that history can be properly amended, if necessary. A riveting ride over hill and dale with your wonderful voiceover, Jerry! I hope another episode is coming soon! Cheers, ~Dany

I am currently reading Dr Samuel A Mudd and the Lincoln Assassination by John E Hale, Jr who used to be our county’s police chief a long time ago. I live in Upper Marlboro which you can see on your map is very close to Booth’s escape route. I have been to Mudd’s house many times. My husband has distant relatives that married into the Mudd family. I never heard the end of the story after Booth was killed…so that was very interesting.

It’s my opinion that Abraham Lincoln is one of the most interesting and intelligent men in history and my hero (I can recite the Gettysburg Address from memory and I’m Canadian). If I were offered the chance to have a conversation with anyone in history, absolutely, I would choose Lincoln. I have heard/read so many rumors regarding who was actually shot in that tobacco barn, witnesses to the Booth autopsy on the Montauk that claim the body wasn’t Booth’s that I wish they would just do the DNA test. Thank you for another fascinating video Mr. Skinner. I have watched every video you have posted and always anxiously await each new post. I realize that may seem trivial but as an ER physician I have very little free time but alway manage to watch your videos as soon as I can. If you keep making videos I’ll keep watching! Sincerely, JB Henderson MD PS., it’s my opinion that Lincoln saved the vision of your founding fathers, the United States and democracy. Without Lincoln the entire world would be very different today and many countries such as Canada, Great Britain, France….(the list goes on ) would not enjoy the freedom and liberty that so many people ignorantly take for granted. Take care and God bless.

@@JerrySkinner1943 I apologize as I’m at work and must keep this brief. They are stories but you have no idea how much your stories mean to me on days when I need an interesting intelligent diversion from a bad day. I’m likely older than most of your viewers (62) and you present (apart from medicine) my 2 favorite subjects, history and old Hollywood. I love the biographies on the movie stars I used to watch in the theater but who have since past away. I especially appreciate that you research and present videos on character actors. To my knowledge you are the only one that takes the time to do that. It is very cathartic for me on certain days to reminisce and revel in the nostalgia of those days. The diversion you give me is so helpful in that I can do my job better and with a changed refreshed attitude. They are stories but those stories benefit me and consequently that benefits others. I hope that helps to put into perspective the value and importance of what you do. My most sincere appreciation, Doc

A couple of corrections: 1. Ned Spangler was not part of the assassination conspiracy and was not hung. He was convicted of aiding Booth's escape and sentenced to six years. 2. When Booth fled Ford's theater he first proceeded to the Surratt Tavern in what is now Clinton MD, about 9 miles south of DC.

Very likely Booth was in early with the top Southern Defenders who likely protected him by providing anonymity for events of the decade ahead.. an example evidenced by his pre war attendance at the 1859 hanging of John Brown-a few miles from Harper’s Ferry in a field outside of Charles Town West Virginia - amongst the attendees was VMI math professor & the soon to be legend Stonewall Jackson and “others”. What I did not know - which Jerry surprised us with in the end.. the final cover offered Booth as “ Unc” ( uncle ) courtesy of none other than Nathan Bedford Forrest! Wow. Jerry- I know you know, thank you immensely for following the trail & bringing us the rest of the story! I hope all do their homework & realize someday- the hero’s who tried to save the Founders intent of a United States when a regional Republican Party came out of no where ..threw our Constitution out the window & federalized the government. Bless You Sir! I’d love it if you could bring your audience the true story of President Jefferson Davis’ final days of freedom following the collapse of Richmond ❤..it’s a story barely known

@bestofsmall it would take a lot of paper *wink, it's right in front of people, Skinner DOC here, is a good start. I've seen this all before, the maps, the names, the buried people. About 23 years ago, I asked a historian about a person, and he mailed me a copy of an old letter c 1867-8. I'll leave it at that. If anybody could tell the story correctly, it would be Skinner, he's good. Sorry at being so vague. So many books written on this, it was a conspiracy, and with any conspiracy, it requires a "goat" to "quiet" the sheep. 😊
