Ayub Khan laid the foundation of separation. Justice Hamid ur Rehman report should be made public for Pakistanis, and Bangladeshi should know the actual culprit.

It started when in 1948 in Dacca Bengalis were deprived of their National language and an imported language was introduced from bihar and Ajmeer . The issue gained momentum when five bengali University students were killed by Pakistani army. The atrocities over bengalis continued for 25 years. Jute money was spend on construction of Islamabad , Turbela , and Mangla , whereas Bengalis were dying of hunger . Poverty was on its extreme in East Pakistan. In the end when Banglis got independence, they had so much hatred for those names , people which had any attachment with Pakistan that they didnt retain the name of Pakistan, nor national anthem. They restored Rabindar Nath Tigor instead of Iqbal . Mujeeb ur Rehman as thier National leader instead of Mr Jinnah .

I am a Bangladeshi journalist. Mr. Mir, you have elaborated the intricate issue. I visited Pakistan number of times and interviewed few important personalities. The books you have referred here are (except two) in my possession. I only differ about Gen Zia. He was not the person who first killed a Pak officer. Lt Col M R Choudhury was the senior most in Chittagong as Brig Majumder was taken away by Gen Khadim. Lt Col M R Choudhury was brutally killed by the Pak force on 25th March night- the first military martyr of 1971. The then Maj Zia was sent to unload the weapons from a ship at Chittagong port by his commanding officer Lt Col Janjua. When Zia was brought back by his fellow officers from the middle of the way, he found all the soldiers were highly agitated by the news that Lt Col M R Choudhury went missing. By this time few hundred Bengali recruits of East Bengal Regimental Center were also butchered by the Baluch regiment. This made the situation uncontrollable. And the soldiers killed Lt Col Janjua who was brought by Zia to the battalion. I personally interviewed the comrades of Gen Zia number of times. The son of Shaheed Lt Col M R Choudhury is still alive and his name is Col Mahmudur Rahman Choudhury (Retd). He is the advisory editor of the journal which I edit... Gen Zia was a soldier and he is still the most popular leader of our country. Pak army should learn the lessons ( I think they will never)... Bloody civilian theroy must end. Thanks again.

I am from Bangladesh, I have to say with great sadness that Mr. Hamid, thank you very much for presenting the truth in such a beautiful and fluent manner, till today I have not seen any leader of Pakistan to present the true and correct history. Such is the situation in Pakistan that they are very afraid to give true information. They are actually seen doing talk shows on various TV channels on 16th December, but it is a matter of regret but the truth is that some of them are showing the true history of their tribe. Amazing thing, where so many evidences and so many books have been written but Pakistani political leaders have never dared to raise the arguments from these correct histories, Hamid Sahib my question why? Mr. Hamid. I would like to say for your information: There was no problem in the election of 1970 in this Bangladesh, but all the people voted for the Awami League together without any problems. And you need to know this matter. On March 27, 1971, Ziaur Rahman did not read the first Declaration of Independence from Kalurghat Radio Center in Chittagong. Before that, Mr. MA Hannan, a leader of Awami League, read the Declaration of Independence on March 25. And all of them read the declaration on the order of Bangobandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, But Ziaur Rahman did not declare independence on 27th March by himself but he was requested to do so. And above all, what I want to say is that on March 7, 1971, Bangobandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared the independence of Bangladesh. Thank you so much for such a great video . I am Bangladeshi and proud as a Bengali, 1971 I was teenager…. We suffered a lot….lost our relatives . Whole country was brutally massacred by Pakistani soldiers. Remembering those days is very scary and painful for us.

Dear Hamid Mir Jee it will be an honour for me to add to ur knowledge about the 1971 War and it’s out come. I was there.U might conjecture that despite the fact hat I was there and fighting it out against that huge Bharati Army ( I must highlight this aspect with u at a later stage ). I admit that being there and fighting it out against that huge Bharati Army could not have been a strong enough claim to say that I should be knowing all about it. I was not there merely present but that I have read quite a few books upon it and I have written quite a lot about it. Ur preamble to the fact that there was a plan existing with Field Marshal Ayub Khan ever since 1962 to separate E Pakistan from Pakistan is a good content. U have given very little coverage to Bhutto who had won only half the seats yet he did not let the power be transferred to Sh Mujib who had won more than double the seats won by Mr Bhutto. At this stage I m on the horns of a dilemna as to on which part of this tangled problem I should proceed further. OK! Let us start with that apology that u think ppl of ( W) Pakistan should offer to the ppl of Bangladesh. I m sure u must now be searching for the book titled : Witness To Carnage by Brig Karrar Ali Agha. Upon reading this book you might start thinking that it were the leaders of Bangladesh who should apologise from the ppl of Pakistan. Despite all that Gen Musharraf during his visit to Bangladesh was taken to the Shaheed Meenar where he was made to offer Fateha.Gen Musharraf offerred Fateha and also offered apology to the leaders of Bangladesh for all those excesses done upon the ppl of E Pakistan. Those Bengali leaders had said to Gen Musharraf that , “we shall accept ur apology only after Pakistan has returned 56 per cent shares of Bengali ppl from the Fedral assets of Pakistan”. This apology train dead stopped right there and is still standing right there. I shall tell u more about it in another context later. Insha Allah.

This is one of the most brilliant and hard hitting piece of video essay ever done on the breakup of Pakistan. What makes it unique is the references provided by Mir Sahab. I had read few of the books he mentioned, and now have an urge to get my hands on the remaining ones he mentioned. It seems those powers be have not learned a thing from debacle of 71, and are hell bent on repeating the same today. Unfortunately there is no more land to loose, and this time complete disintegration will be the only outcome. Mir Sahab, it would be a good idea to include bibliography as description in your videos as I am sure you want more people to read the books you refer to. And make more of such long format video essays, you're doing a huge favor to this nation and it's upcoming generations.

It's very informative. However, as a Bangladeshi with an opinion, the separation of East and West Pakistan was inevitable. It was just a matter of time. It was then or now. We are so distant in terms of culture and geography. Moreover, given the economy of then East Pakistan, which technically had no economy but a vast number of unproductive, hungry people living in a flood-filled land, it would surely be a liability and heavy burden for West Pakistan's economy, let alone the cause of political instability. Mujib knew that well, and he wanted a free ride (economical), so he didn't want a separation but integration until he was forced and pressured by the communists.
