The identity of the passenger in Cormac McCarthy's The Passenger, I believe, is up for debate. I review McCarthy's latest book and give my thoughts, criticism, analysis and offer up my own reading of the book. In this video essay and book review I break down my interpretation of the book after I read it for a second time.

(Spoiler Alert) Thank you very much for your video. I have enjoy it a lot. I just have finished the book, and I have another theory: the passenger is Bobby. Is in coma due a car accident (he finds the initial enigma in the dark deep water: the most terrifying thing for bobby according to Alice) and we follow the passenger through his last journey and flashes of his mind, slowly disappearing until his last thought: his beloved sister. Stella Maris is the complement and confirmation of Bobby's situation and also a testimony of Alice version, and her final thoughts....until the end of the book, which is also the beginning of the Passenger.

Bobby is schizophrenic also, that’s how he saw “The Kid”. No one was chasing him, “squire”. This is him falling off the edge.

But Alicia isn't schizophrenic either. It's a big point that the doctors can't actually properly diagnosor label what she is. The chimera she sees could just as easily be aliens. Also we know people are chasing him because we get that information from other characters and his car and bank account are locked and his passport is seized. Unless you're saying the narrator is themselves schizophrenic. But I think it's more interesting if you don't dismiss the whole thing as mental illness
