Who is the President of Burkina Faso Ibrahim Traore?

10 ай бұрын

From an army captain to Africa's youngest leader, Ibrahim Traore catapulted himself to the highest office in his country, Burkina Faso, after seizing power in a military coup in 2022.
Traore's previously unknown face is now plastered on portraits in the capital Ouagadougou and in many parts of West Africa with many comparing him with Burkina Faso's revered revolutionary leader, Thomas Sankara, who was assassinated in 1987.
This is coming as the new wind of pan-Africanism and anti-French sentiments appears to be blowing fast in West Africa.
Young military officers like Traore have promised to end ties with France fueling the anti-French feelings and raising hopes for many citizens who say the former colonial power has not helped matters in the region regarding security and economy.
There have been debates over the growing relationship between Russia's former French colonies amid the uncertainty in the region.
Captain Traore has been clear on his desire for ties with Russia.
So, who really is Captain Ibrahim Traore?

It's not about replicating or cloning great leaders, but rather learning from and being inspired by them, while also learning from their mistakes. And the big difference is that, while Sankara had not a single other nation on the side of Burkina Faso, this time the fire is catching on. Africa wasn't mature for a revolutionary vision 40 years ago, when Sankara tried: in shaa Allah we may be ready now. Peace!

A year or so ago I was stationed at a hospital in country neighboring Burkina Faso. A badly injured patient was brought to the center. Before performing surgery I noticed something peculiar about the one who brought the patient. He was very calm , stood straight and had a keenly observant eye. I asked if he was an army officer but he denied. He was very supportive of the injured patient. A few weeks ago I saw him again - President of Burkina Faso. There was something about him!

@@octobersky9639 Sankara’s aims were the “democratic and popular revolution” to be primarily concerned with the tasks of eradicating corruption, fighting environmental degradation, empowering women, and increasing access to education and health care, with the larger goal of liquidating imperial domination. During the course of his presidency, Sankara successfully implemented programs that vastly reduced infant mortality, increased literacy rates and school attendance, and boosted the number of women holding governmental posts. On the environmental front, in the first year of his presidency alone 10 million trees were planted in an effort to combat desertification. On the first anniversary of the coup that had brought him to power, he changed the country’s name from Upper Volta to Burkina Faso, which means roughly “land of upright people” in Mossi and Dyula, the country’s two most widely spoken indigenous languages. He ultimately wanted to be rid of France’s leeching and hold on Francophone Africa

With so many natural resources in our continent, we shouldn't be living like we got nothing, and constantly asking foreign countries for aid, while in reality we’re the ones who are keeping foreign countries afloat. Really tired of that sick deplorable script. Africa has been kept down for far too long. Time to stand up and show our true potential for glory. The only reason western democracy hasn’t worked is because African warlords have prevented it from working by seizing power and starting a dictatorship. Removing African citizens right to vote. And you cheer on this despite the evidence in the history of Africa proving this will not work and the evidence showing that western democracy does work……

@SeanTalksSales get leaders like our Taliban are in the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan...honest, ethical & for our people. Democracy, secularism, liberalism etc is not our Afghan way, and I don't think that it is your African way either. We are not Westerners, so stop bring brainwashed by democracy. In Afghanistan, the Russiams tried communism on us & the US & NATO & allies tried bombing & drone striking democracy & LGBTQ into us, but none of that worked with the majority of us Afghans.

@@petma5551some of us Americans don’t care about anyone commenting on our government hypocrisy cause we do it ourselves. Foundational black Americans are concerned about African affairs cause we want to invest in African economies, want Africa to economically rise, some want to leave to stress of systemic racism, move to where our ancestors are from, tired of white/European people & their collective culture of looking down on Africans as less. We want an economically prosperous Africa away from the influence of its former colonizers, less corruption, easy to do business & bring prosperity to others. Besides a way to gain citizenship for the diaspora who can contribute economically to Africa inside & outside. Black America has nothing but support for Africa economic development without the West exploitation & influence. Mainstream white supremacy America that black America has no control or influence is no different than their European counterparts. We understand who they are in the Diaspora, Africans haven’t been paying attention.
