Which God do Sikhs believe in? Do Sikhs believe in God? Which better words can we use? What are the qualities of the Sikh God? What is the soul's relationship to the Creator?
Please note, this video will be unable to answer this question, its beyond comprehension. We can only hope to elucidate some of the qualities and attributes of our One Creator. Apologies in advance for errors.
We would recommend reading Gurbani, watching Jaap Sahib and reading Zafarnama translations.
• Jaap Sahib - Sikh Prayer - Jaap Sahib
• "ZAFARNAMAH" Letter to... - Zafarnama (first 34 verses)

It's amazing to me, as a Christian, listening to your concept of the one creator. The similarities really struck me, I didn't know much about the Sikh religion until this video and I'm blown away, Gods grace is powerful and he touches the minds of all men, from all corners of the globe and from every culture. Yes, of course. I would recommend watching more of our videos and also reading books by Puran Singh, especially the Spirit of the Sikh and the Ten Masters. Sikhi is about experiencing the Divine so try and listen to Sikh Kirtan and try to meditate. Find a Gurudwara near you and try to experience the kirtan and doing some Seva. You can email us at basicsofsikhi@gmail.com for more help and join us on facebook.

Hi Patty, thanks for your comment. I agree its hard to re-programme our mind, but even harder to accept that the spiritual experience of God is available whilst we are alive, and we dont have to wait till death. The experiences awaiting us by chanting gods name, singing praises and meditating are just immense! Energy is God, whole entire existence of our spacetime Galaxy elements need energy. Light is energy, why does the universe light up in dark black nothing. Guru Nanak explained something similar, God is timeless, ageless, shapeless, formless can't be seen to the eye only felt infinity, God is another word for mass energy. Universe, Galaxy, stars, planets and life has pattern of energy. For example life's elements needs energy to live, when you die your reincarnate to another element, you become anything. Wahaguru

The search for the truth reminds me of a game I played as a child, called "telephone" or "party line". We would all sit in a line. The first would whisper a couple of sentences into the next ones ear, who would repeat it to the next, until the final person would say it out loud. When the first one stated what he had said were amazed at the change, until we went backwards down the line and heard how it was changed. What do Sikhs think of Wisdom (spiritual entity or state of mind)

Although God is described as "he," in this video, please realize that the Sikh description of God in Punjabi does not directly translate to English. In reality, God is an "it" rather than a "he." But, notice that he doesn't say the word "it" at all in the video as English is not his first language. Also, in Punjabi, their is no neutral gender, therefore the word "it" does not exist in Punjab. Nevertheless, for those of us who truly understand Sikhism, we know that God is a genderless energy that dictates the laws of physics and life being relevant to time rather than to eternity.

When you say that "God is a genderless energy" Do you mean that this "energy" is "conscious intelligent energy" which then created the whole universe. Or is it only a energy as we know in physics (without any consciousness and intelligence) ??. Thanks
@TheTacoBoy001
@TheTacoBoy001 8 жыл бұрын
As in only an energy as we know in physics without any consciousness and intelligence. God is an impersonal being because it has no consciousness and intelligence, otherwise it would connect with the very people it consciously created. A God that allows miscarriages, natural disasters, and cancer without a cure is obviously a very evil God if it were conscious of these atrocities. Anyway, Sikhism is about connecting to this energy that created everything and dictates the laws of physics (gravity, inertia, friction, etc). There is much we don't know about it, but we do know that God (or Waheguru as it is often called) endowed everyone to have a light within them that is worthy of enlightenment through good deeds.
@golddiamond7440
@golddiamond7440 8 жыл бұрын
***** Hi, You are right, there is much that we do not fully understand about who and what is God. I noticed Hinduism has both aspects of God (personal and impersonal), its explained in their Scriptures. Perhaps God is both personal and impersonal?. Personally, I find that it is bit hard to relate and imagine having loving relationship with an impersonal God like energy or force. When I pray to God, I pray knowing that God is more than the concept of impersonal force or energy and that he is also personal and I can talk to him and that he listens. To me its hard to imagine praying or talking to a "impersonal" Energy or Force. A person can relate himself or pray or talk to a personal aspect of God, but I find hard to imagine talking or praying to something which cannot even hear you and is unconscious, unintelligible energy or force. God is perhaps both impersonal and personal. If we say God is only "impersonal" it does not solve all the problem, although it does give some relief, but there are still some questions which are unanswered, this is where the personal aspect of God comes in to fill in the gaps. So God is perhaps both impersonal and personal. God is like two sided coin. Actually there are some Sikhs who believe that God is more than mere energy [impersonal], that He is also "Personal". But I still respect those who wants to believe God as "energy", because that is their choice. Thanks.

Thnx for the knowledge.

TheEars99 the om is just a metaphoric analogy not meant to be thought as that indeed a man with grey beard said om and off went the universe. What we all think of creation is anthropocentric, to our concoctions of time, temporal and material. Sound of Om is a temporal analogy and the akal, I.e. timeless could not make literal ‘sounds’ but it was just placing of the seeds

The difference is Sikhs Only belive in Guru Granth Sahib Ji, which is Writings of Guru Sahib, and most hindus don't belive in Gurbani or they don't follow, it think that sums it up, one belive something to be the Only thing that they follow others don't even follow it

Hindus don't follow Gurbani , Sikhs Only follow Gurbani, that's enough difference i think, they don't have basic structure of religion shared, it starts with one God vs Many god's to how to worship God, to how to live life and many more, there are Many similarities between Sikhi Hinduism and Islam but Sikhi is very unique which makes it different , it used the refrence of both religions their scriptures their gods demi god's to convey the message, but Gurbani is considered as divine revelation

@WWEFREAK372 Thanks. Yes, we all worship the same Creator/God. However the Guru's never said that only Judeo-Christian-Islam have the right version of God, we do not reject the Hindu God or the Buddhist concept of Enlightenment. There is only the One, everywhere, in and out and nowhere. Rather than arguing about who's got the right concept of God, the Guru's preferred to focus on getting people to connect to our True Beloved by Singing, Meditation, Good Deeds and Pure Thoughts. Best wishes

I often reflect on the phrase "Guru prasad" and I think it is really true, it is thanks to the grace of Guru Nanak if many of us have understood the true nature of God, think about it, so many human beings have come to understand this truth, but often they were mystics who did not agree with the dogmas of their own religions, but Baba Nanak put this innate truth as the basis of faith. Simple, logical and pure truth, this is why I left Christianity and Islam, sikhi is the truth.

I have come to believe that if there is One God, then there really is one original religion and that all religions of spirituality stem from the same truth. The truth spread like ripples on the earth. Just as hitting rocks in a pond, when it hit selfishness the ripples flowed differently.

I understand that 'God' is probably not the greatest way of naming the Creator in Sikhi, as it tends to make a 'God and Us' attitude, i.e. it separates us. Did he listen to himself after recording? He says "one being" created the world. God (creator) is not a being. And he uses God's name as WAHEGURU. Waheguru was first used by Guru Nanak when he supposedly met God Almighty and said... Wahe (wondrous) Guru (teacher) to HIM (God) and now it's become the name of God for Sikhs.

Chosen One Prophets were sent to deliver their messages about god and religion such as islam believe god exists outside the universe and he’s watching us according to them. Our gurus were (let me put this metaphorically) were the reflection of the sun (sun being god metaphorically) and the reflection being the moon (the gurus of the sikhs)this means god recites in them hence the light reflecting the moon. We believe god is everywhere and in us, this is why we find ourselves and meditate and served the needy. He is energy himself and it’s scientifically proven. Hope that makes sense. If you got lost, please mention it so i can explain it in more depth if you wish to know about it more. Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh.
