I still can’t believe he was allowed on the Sarah Jane adventures. Outside of his amazing concept I can’t imagine all the kids he terrified (me included)

Wait WHAT?? The Trickster only appeared THREE times??? Damn that’s really a testament to how great a villain he was considering he’s still so iconic despite so little time

I’m calling it, the one who waits is using the trickster for his powers to mess with the timeline through Ruby. The Trickster will be a disciple of the Chaos gods (Maestro, Toymaker and so on)

RTD has repeatedly said he wants reaction videos for the finale and that it’s scary and should be watched at midnight, he’s also said there’s a crazy line for the cold open of the Legend of Ruby Sunday and apparently it’s so good they’re putting it in cinemas. I’d say the Trickster returning would warrant all of this.

I also came to the same conclusion that you did; That being that the Trickster will return in the latest season. And I am SO excited! He's such a good villain and I always felt like he deserved to have an appearance in the main show. Also amazing video as always, keep up the great work!

Sarah Jane Adventures had some really cool monster designs and concepts I'd love to see in the main show. Also I'd love for Clyde and Rani to show up at some point, that'd be fun (heck if Mel can make a comeback anyone can).

I also saw that behind the scenes video of RTD where he mentioned the Trickster and instantly started theorising, it seems that only now everyone has started to talk about him, but I'm an original believer, I knew he'd be coming back!

I so want it to be Trickster!! Watching Sarah Jane Adventures as a kid and potentially seeing the Trickster return in the new season of Doctor Who would be so crazy

I've been rambling about the trickster coming back since Christmas, because of the way that the goblins removed Ruby from the timeline, so I thought they could be a part of the Trickster's brigade. I also think the Trickster would work perfectly as "the one who waits", because his abilities and vibe are similar tot he toymaker's in many respects. Since then though, RTD has mentioned the trickster and pantheons in offhand comments, also Maestro could easily be another member of the Pantheon of Discord, and H. Arbinger's similarities to the Graske's disguise in the Temptation of Sara Jane Smith. Add on top of that the music similarities, the hooded figure dropping off Ruby at the church, and the alternate timelines shown in both the Devil's Chord and 73 yards, and I'm now fully convinced that we're building up to the return of the Trickster.

Seeing this come up on my subscriptions made me remember how your beep the meep video is the reason I found your channel, since then you’ve honestly became one of my favourite channels

i knew the trickster was going to probably make a return, in the 60th the Toymaker made hints to chaos and him not being the only one, after the devil's chord maestro made a quick hint to the pantheon and there has been line drops of discord throughout and this all makes sense with the chaos and discord plot line we have had since the 60th. even in the 60th the Toymaker hints that using magic and superstitions at the edge of the universe made reality weaker and this is what the trickster will use to re-enter the universe. now it would also be great if we could see a character or two return from SJA like luke, clyde or sky.

I did watch the SJA back in the day. As a dude in his thirties I get that it wasn’t made for me, but it was short, fun, and good to see Sarah doing Sarah again. I’ve seen a lot of this trickster talk about. I guess he’s an itch Russell failed to scratch. My problem is the motivation of, “Yeah let’s break a timeline so we can feed on chaos or some shit.” It’s a bit abstract, and frankly that guy should have been hitting the doctor’s associates for millennia at this point. We will see.

Even if he doesn't show up in this season, Sutekh's harbinger name dropping him means him showing up in the future is even more likely.

It's notable how the Trickster, akin to characters like the Meddling Monk, works only if the concept of fixed points is emphasised as much as possible. The importance and fragility of fixed points needs to be heavily emphasised in order to make the chaos changes to them have any bearing, and in recent years, the show has been somewhat flippant with the concept; largely due to the actual ethical dilemma of placing some individuals, such as historical figures, as more important than others in scenarios relying on fixed points, and just because Doctor Who's ruleset always develops with new creatives. Since The Church on Ruby Road, however, fixed points have regained the narrative weight they may have had in previous eras, as we see more direct results of historical interference. The Doctor actively engages in this when saving Ruby as a baby from the goblins, even if this is done for the sake of maintaining a fixed point, in the aforementioned episode after seeing a timeline without her. The butterfly effect joke in Space Babies made us miss Pete again, but also showed the very literal in-verse consequences of making even minute changes, something which the TARDIS is jestingly programmed to avoid. Maestro's nuclear winter in The Devil's Chord is the causality of this interference taken to its fullest extreme, shown clear for Ruby, a near de-facto audience surrogate, to see. The groundwork laid over the initial episodes to give credence back to the concept of fixed points would openly invite the Trickster, as well as the Meddling Monk, to return because they have more credibility as antagonists, and only opens the playing field further to all sorts of possibilities.

It's worth noting that when the Trickster manifests in the Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith, it's not merely due to Sarah changing the fate of her parents, but the fact that she did so on a weak point in the Web of Time. Hallowed ground like that of religious sites is particularly prone to being such a weak point; a temporal faultline. Foxgrove was built around such a site (the Abbot's Gateway), so when Sarah changed things it ruptured this faultline and allowed Ol' Tricksy to come through, and wreak devastation you pointed out was similar to Maestro's. Ruby was left at a church. What if Ruby Road is another such faultline?

The idea of there being a malevolent element to the legend of Ruby Sunday would be really interesting, and not something that I would have expected. The idea that Ruby was created solely as a vessel for the trickster is just creepy...

Since tennant came back and dr who became amazing again ive been re watching dr who and sarah jane adventures and I love them even more now than as a child. I'd truely love it if the one who waits is the trickster. The biggest thing for me is the music.

I'm so glad to see people appreaciate Trickster, because they are my favourite Doctor Who villain, Trickster has such a haunting presence whenever he is on screen, I think that makes them the most unique and terryfing villains. I want to bring one thing that makes the Ruby being the finalized version of what Sky a little less likely, because RTD wrote a special "Farewell, Sarah Jane" in which it was mentioned Sky appeared in her human form, which implies that the events of the unfinished episodes happened in Russell's mind, so him doing the same story is not as plausable, but I hope Trickster comes back, because that would be so fantastic to see them facing the Doctor again, I hope Trickster ties more to Ruby's story becuase it makes SO MUCH sense, can't wait for the finale!!

Hey did anyone else notice how easily Ruby seemed to (temporarily) fall victim to the butterfly effect in both Church on Ruby Road AND in Space Babies? By LITERALLY stepping on a butterfly? And how the whole concept of the butterfly effect appears to be an ongoing theme this season? Its almost as if timeline altering events naturally mavitate towards her...

See I didn't like the Ruby being a member of the Pantheon theory because I thought it was too big of a reveal for Russell T Davies (his twists/reveals are more subtle, Steven Moffat was always the one doing the big reveals). But I was getting major Turn Left/Trickster Brigade vibes from 73 Yards. The subtle thing that I've noticed being brought up all the time (outside of Susan Twist and the Pantheon) is they keep subtly mentioning salt which is definitely connected to Wild Blue Yonder. So maybe the whole thing with the salt and the supernatural is what's gonna bring the Trickster back.

I really hope the Trickster comes back in some shape or form, he's easily one of the best underused villains in DW

I've always loved the Trickster but I feel that the creators fear bringing him back because of the Trickster's creator who's issues I won't go into. I'd love to see his return as I'm sure we all would, the theory is probable and I'd love it to be true.

I think that all the spin offs of DW are vastly underrated. I especially liked Torchwood and SJ but hey, without anything else I even liked Class. I myself don’t think that (Ruby Sunday) is neither a piece of The-Trickster, nor the daughter of him. But instead I theorize that (RUBY SUNDAY) might be his niece. I theorize that The-Trickster, secretly has a sister, who is the opposite of him, but has a little bit some of the same looks. I also imagine more possibilities about Ruby Sunday’s birth parents.

I think it is possible that The Trickster is one the the creatures like The Toymaker and The Maestro. One is the embodiment of Play, one is the embodiment of Music, one is the embodiment of Chaos. And given how patient the Trickster is, going back in time with Andrea in Whatever happened to Sarah Jane and waiting 50+ years for the chaos to come into effect. He in turn left made tiny events change to alter the course of history. He’s patient. And we know he has a brigade of followers of some kind. Well, we know that The Maestro had Henry Harbinger. Perhaps you could describe Henry Harbinger as “One of The Maestro’s Brigade”. I can see it being very likely that they are from the same place. I would also say that, I have been watching Classic Who for the first time recently, still in Hartnell’s Era, and The Meddling Monk from that feels like he is eerily close to the Trickster in ways he would like to change history. Perhaps, just as The Doctor came from outside the Universe. Perhaps some Time Lords like The Meddling Monk found a way out of the Universe and ended up transforming into these embodiments of concepts based on their personality traits. Perhaps The Meddling Monk turned into the Trickster. Perhaps a more musically inclined Time Lord turned into The Maestro. Perhaps a Time Lord who loves to play games turned into The Toymaker. Who knows.

I've actually just thought of something. What if the Trickster made a deal with Ruby's mother? Essentially, Ruby's mother didn't want to rase a child but still wanted the child to have a good life. The Trickster swoops in and offers to not only take Ruby off of her hands, but also to ensure that she get's adopted by Carla and eventually meets the Doctor due to whatever plan he's got cooking up. However, he does something to Ruby that causes the whole snow thing to keep happening. Just my own little theory but what do you guys think?

Excellent video. I don't know if they will bring back the trickster with no mentions of his existence so far in the season. You'd think there would be some exposition or off handed comment about it, but the only comments we've gotten about things from the shows past are Susan Foreman and timelords. Also there are a lot of spearate plot threads already: The Tardis is sick, Susan Twist, the one who waits, the oldest one, and Ruby's parentage. True many of these elements could be related, but I just can't see how this would factor into the finale without making it overly crowded. I love the trickster, and would want this to happen but I just don't think it will.

As soon as I heard the trickster theory from fantom I was like "omg yes" very much seems like this is what we are gearing up to. And for sure it would totally fit in with where we are going. Always said he is a doccy who level being who never was in the show. I so agree. Calling it now. 💪

Phantoms of the Whoinverse, the Trickster Puzzling own place in time and space it may be this shadowy phantom is a pantheon like the Giggle or something a lot older from another universe vastly stranger but sort of the same as ours and possibly part symbiotic and organic a temporal pocket universe exiting as in an hourglass, Trickester and possibly another variation of Earth is like our planet only controlled by him. Trickster may also be a Dark Guardian similar to another variant we know they both know of each other but each ignores the other they have a different dimension of reality control. They exist independently but sometimes they seem to interact with individuals who have connections with time travel. There is something else about this Trickseter name it is possibly known by different names and has a couple of twists in that name and wears different faces. If just it were to return it possibly have two versions of different people in Doctor Who ( Miss Flood or Twist ) it would be surprising none less timed Timeless Trickster (child) another other doctor. Here’s a theory for you. In the Giggle episode when the doctor was describing who the toy maker was he explained there was order and chaos and then there’s play. Well… what if the celestial beings are the concepts. The Toymaker is Play but his child is The Maestro So what about Order and Chaos and this is where the theory gets interesting. The Trickster was hell bent on getting rid of the doctor and causing chaos - what if the Trickster was another celestial being and there child is Ruby the storyteller? Stories are usually fictional and as all rules are off you could say fictional stories are born out of chaos as they are fiction and creative. So Ruby being the story maker makes sense. But here’s where it gets even more interesting - who is order? What if the Doctor was order, what if he himself is the concept of order. And time follows order. And the maestro did call him The Lord Of Time. What if The true identity of the doctor is Father Time? And then there is Susan his granddaughter… which I do have another theory on who Susan is and how she’s related to the doctor. The doctor only married once to river song. What if they had a child? I mean they spent 24 years on that planet before river went off to die. 24 years is along time they could of had a child together so river and 12th Doctor has a child and that child would be half doctor have river…. This child would then grow up to be the mother or father to Susan but let’s think about that so who is Susan’s mother and the 12th doctor and rivers child? Well Amy pond named her child melody pond but she changed it to river song, what happens to a river when it fills.. it floods? Mrs flood? Could that be Susan’s mother and the child of the 12th doctor and River. Now imagine Mrs flood had Susan foreman and sends her to galifray where she meets the 1st doctor - the doctor who is a timelord would know she is his grand daughter a Tardis scan would detect that, the doctor not knowing where she came from and her herself may not be too sure but only knows she is related to the doctor - the doctor would have to concede he has a grand daughter but wouldn’t know when in time she’s from. Thus the first stories has him and his granddaughter but it’s never mentioned how she’s his granddaughter because he never knew exactly how. Book how’s that as a big theory. But wait there’s more So if The doctor is the celestial Father Time what happened? Maybe he fell through the crack of time and transformed into the little girl like a cameleon circuit kind of thing to escape the Celestials. But in the process lost his memory of his past celestial self. So he doesn’t know because of escaping that realm there stuck in
