The Hustlers Corner SA Podcast with @DJSbuTV
He talks to some of the world's best hustlers sharing their stories to inspire a new generation.
Who is Theo Baloyi?
Born and bred in Pretoria, Theo is an accountant by profession, having worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers for 5 years (2 years in South Africa & 3 years in the Middle East, Dubai & Saudi Arabia respectively).
Theo worked in Asset management , Strategy & Financial management during the time spent at PwC.
In April 2015, with savings accumulated over the 5 year period spent at PwC, Theo Baloyi launched Bathu Shoes from a tiny room in Alexandra township, with the primary objective to tell an untold, proudly South African story/narrative to the world through selling uniquely designed shoes. Theo identified a gap for a shoe brand that would narrate authentic African stories . Prior to launching, Theo worked on the Research & Development , Quality control & Assurance , Proof of concept for Bathu Shoes for 18 months!
The word "Bathu" is a proudly South African slang word, commonly used in South African Townships in reference to any type of shoe. The word is derived from TsotsiTaal (an unofficial language which is a combination of afrikaans & african languages) The word Bathu has existed since the days of Sophiatown, Sharpeviile & Soweto prior 1994, and it is still commonly used in most South African townships today.
Bathu shoes are locally manufactured in Durban , with some of the components imported from Lesotho & the East .Bathu Shoes' long term vision is to have presence in Europe and South America , telling its' story in these parts of the world and be recognised and identified globally as a leading African shoe brand!
Get to know the man who's breathable, colourful shoes are getting every South Africa walking their own journey!
Dear Hustlers: PLEASE LIKE, COMMENT & SUBSCRIBE so we can help & inspire more people to become hustlers, to start that business they afraid to start, to become young entreneurs & to create generational wealth (SO MUCH MORE!!!!)

Dj Sbu is a great interviewer. I like how he gave Mr Baloyi the time to spit out his thinking without interrupting after every question. He asked questions with understanding of what Theo had said. Felt more like a normal conversation. On the other hand, BIG UP to Theo for going against odds from tertiary days till now. His fire for success keeps burning over and over again🥂🍾

This Interview Blew My Mind. After watching the recent one. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this one. You are both brilliant Leaders and Visionaries. The next generations are in safe hands here. You are literally making history. It is the way you speak to and about one another that is quite interesting. The art of having a great attitude really can do ALOT for you and also making an effort to put more work into what you are truly interested in. I loved the part where Mr B spoke about his first year at school and how he was somewhat clueless about the question posed to them in their first class and he took it upon himself to go do some research later that evening. I LOVE that. I love the resilience, I love the Spirit. I love how he mentioned how on his off days he would spend time in the library studying, that is commendable and highly inspiring.. the part about the weekend back at home in the hood blew my mind so much... the fact he left that job that was feeding him and his family, for a business that would in turn feed more families, that part touched my heart. I love this. You are great leaders and you lead so well. Thank you for sharing such IMPACT FULL stories on this platform. My mindset continues to be shifted. I'm so grateful. May God continue to bless and favor you both. 🙌🏿 Iam at awe of this story I can never get over listening to it.

My name is Tswakae Sebotsa, recipient of a postgraduate master's medal from the Education Association of South Africa (EASA). I am a former Physical and Natural Sciences lecturer in the Faculty of Education, North-West University, Potchefstroom campus. I am thirty-two years of age, for which ten years have been dedicated to Science education. In this decade, I obtained experience in the enterprise of teaching Mathematics & Physics at the school & university level, research & community engagement. My research niche encompasses the epistemological border-crossing between western science, indigenous knowledge & the arts, the affordances of indigenous knowledge in the science classroom, & students’ and teachers’ STEAMIE (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Arts, Innovation and Entrepreneurship) professional development programmes. I have attended a course on Aesthetic Education Immersion at the Lincoln Centre in New York to explore the role of arts in the Natural Sciences. I have also contributed to book chapters, and conference proceedings and obtained my M.Ed degree cum laude. Amid others, I have been involved in numerous teacher development programmes where I spearheaded Physics interventions. The Fuchs Foundation-funded Teachers without Borders project in which I am involved got nominated in the “Science Oscars”- the project was a finalist, in the NSTF-South-32 awards to be specific. My teaching philosophy is to scaffold students' & teachers' learning across the zone of proximal development. My teaching is motivated by contextualising science to our everyday life(science & society), appetising & unlocking inquisitive minds through inquiry-based learning, problem-based learning, co-operative learning and dialogues,& to assisting students to develop 21st century and self-directed learning skills. My excitement has always sprawled by (1) witnessing nascent science erudition,(2) being afforded an opportunity to assist students to have more nuanced understandings of the nature of science & (3) mainstreaming the affective domain in my teachings (the engine to the cognitive). Currently, I am a senior STEAM and program coordinator at the University of Pretoria-Pre University Academy(UP-PUA). In this role, I am responsible for all STEAM activities, amongst others I have developed a transdisciplinary module, which takes a lived curriculum stance rather than the traditional approach of curriculum as planned. I also develop, align and coordinate the teaching and learning of science subjects at Groenkloof campus midst other responsibilities such as being a member of the management team of the University of Pretoria Pre-University Academy. I will appreciate it if I can get an invite to share my thoughts on issues concerning politics, education and my hustling, I am emerging in the property business. Good show, I am hooked.
