Mihawk actually appeared in the 1st episode during gold rogers execution. He had the same cool moustache.

The craziest part they don't show in the live action is when Garp says "YOUR TRAINING STARTS TODAY", he picks Luffy up and throws him off of a cliff 😂

I love the little things about a crew member, like everyone seeing something fuzzy in the distance, but Usopp can clearly read the "Baratie" sign. The best eyesight for our sniper xD Also Sanji smiling at Luffy's "IOU" just because that will make Zeff mad xD

The most intimidating thing about Mihawk is how he talks. It's lazy, languid - he's done everything and killed or bested everyone, so he's just BORED now. No one can match him. Also, this episode introducing both Mihawk and Sanji, two of my favorite characters, was so good.

I swear Luffy's impossible to hate, he makes me smile every time I see him both in the manga and the live action, I love how every time he sees someone he considers interesting he wants to pick them up like a stray cat off the street

Mihawk is just a taste, a small taste at what the Grand Line is *really* like. Right now our little band of Pirates are like level 10 and they just ran into a level 100 boss monster. It's a genius way to show that despite them being pretty strong in the East Blue, there are *real* Monsters out there, waiting.

As incredible as it is, those two ships right there are real. They build them. The going Merry and the Baratie are not cgi at all.

i love how different Mihawk is from the actor, super sweet and i remember his tiktok videos struggling to remove a spider from him house 😂😂😂. Also his wife had a baby recently so congrats to them💜

Basically the Mihawk encounter is a sneak peek into the powerlevel of late-story one piece. Mihawk is insanely strong, even right now in the manga (after 1000+ chapters) its unclear if Zoro would be ready. Also Garb and Mihawk being in the east blue is basically the equivalent of two level 100 characters roaming the starting area of a game 😂

I always loved the relationship between Zoro and Mihawk. Mihawk has presumably grown bored, I can imagine he's killed many young cocky swordsman who wanted to best him. Not for noble reasons either, they wanted to beat him for money and fame. He saw Zoro as the same. I love his stunned "why don't you retreat?" He's fully expecting Zoro to do so, realizing how deep in the shit he's in. But Zoro holds firm and keeps going, just pure determination and heart. Something Mihawk greatly respects. If Zoro maintains that drive, he can one day be Mihawk's greatest challenge.

Not sure if someone already told you two but Mackenyu, the actor playing Zoro, is doing all the stunts himself as he is trained in swordmanship in real life. His late father was a famous smordman from Japan :) and yeah, we're probably all fangirling about him 😂❤

Mihawk just casually dropping in from the back half of the series to show you the heights of the power ladder. An interesting parallel, a tiny detail that they drop far later in the manga, is Mihawk used to go by "Marine hunter" Mihawk, making this duel with "Pirate Hunter" Roronoa Zoro even harder to decline, if he'd wanted to. And a little more context about that Scar Zoro will have...Contextualize it with Shank's talk to Luffy about scars and lessons at the beginning of the series. Mihawk was right, Zoro was a frog, croaking in a well, who tried to catch and eat a Hawk flying overhead. Lesson learned. Distance to the greatest has been measured.

There is this one sentence that *Mihawk* says _waaaay_ further into the series (at the current live action adaptation pace it could be by season 3 or 4) which translates exactly what even us, as viewers, get to feel whenever we see Luffy's smile or hear his childishly pure "reasonings" for being a _good_ pirate, making it impossible to hate the guy: _“It's not some sort of special power, but he (Luffy) has the ability to make allies of everyone he meets. _*_And that is the most fearsome ability on the high seas_*_ ...”_ ― *Dracule Mihawk*

Evena Reading Manga for decades and watching 1000+ episodes of One Piece, I feel this TV series is breath of new thing. It tells same story differenctly but I instantly recognize characters, nods and I am impressed how they have fleshed out dozens of anime episodes and manga chapters in few episodes. I hope Oda will be as closely in production as he was in first season. And yes, Luffy is impossible to hate.

One of my favorite things about this show is seeing how fast ppl that haven’t seen one piece before start treating the ship like a beloved crew member.

I was looking forward to seeing you gal's see Mihawk lol. One Piece has a lot of larger than life characters and seeing them get "animated" IRL with awesome actors is going to be an absolute blast. OP's live action really caught me off-guard. LA don't really have a great reputation, but Netflix really turned it around after Cowboy Bebop by being super faithful to the script and only adapting & improvising in moderation.

There is something incredibly hilarious you said in this reaction that made me genuinely laugh out loud, but I can't explain what it was without spoiling something pretty major. Suffice to say you were very much ahead of the game for most of this.

The fight between zoro and mihawk is one of my fav parts of the live action. The action scenes were done perfectly. When I went back and watched the episode in the anime it was so much better. Possible spoilers from the corresponding episode in the anime The first line that Mihawk says: I don't hunt rabbits with a cannonball, in the anime Mihawk says, "A beast doesn't go all out to hunt a rabbit" which sounds more brutal. In the anime as the fight progresses Mihawk's demeanor towards zoro changes..First Mihawk's cool and calm, to him Zoro is just another challenger. However, Zoro is able to surprise Mihawk with his ferocity and Mihawk remarks, "What heavy burden do you carry on your shoulders?". When he stabs zoro with the knife, he asks him why he doesn't retreat. When zoro says, if he does he'll lose his dream, in the anime Mihawk steps away from zoro whereas in the live action zoro backs down. And by the end Mihawk is riled up and a bit emotional. He shouts at Zoro saying, "It's too early for you to die, become stronger and find me. I will hold the title of the world's greatest swordsman till you challenge me again"

My favorite thing is when people watching what's essentially just the prologue to the actual story freaking out about how much they love the characters! Mihawk is amazing, and shows just how far the gap is in power between the East Blue and the Grand Line, but when it comes to people with abilities that will make you go "yooo, no fucking way", cutting a ship in half isn't even close to where this series is going. But the amazing thing is that it's not like Dragonball Z where it's just about who can shoot the bigger ki blast; there're counterbalances and devil fruit advantages and weaknesses, weak fruits can defeat stronger fruits if it's a bad match, and that's what sets One Piece apart from any other shonen I've read.

The way the girl on the left notices details again and again throughout the story, and how she finds some things just too cool, like the Mihawk scene, makes it impossible for me not to give them a like!

I woke up this morning determined to get some housework done and make serious progress on a sewing project I've been procrastinating on, and here I am watching you guys giggle over anime boys! Laundry will have to wait.

Fun spoiler fact, sanji family is of the vinsmoke, a fallen noble / royal family who used to rule germa kingdom in north blue. They focused on bioscience and superhuman creature. Sanji is the third of five siblings, and being the most human and frail got bullied and thrown away as a kid.

Don't forget tissues for the next two episodes! I also love that you guys picked up that mihawk was the guy that ruined the wash ups whole life and took out the whole armada

Oh my god this is so amazing seeing people discovering those characters and already loving them, you are in for a BIG ride, this is the "lord of the ring" of the manga . The universe is so big and very smart despite beginning very cartoonish. I hope you will enjoy the rest of the season, and why not watching the anime then or reading the manga while waiting for season 2 ^^

Hi Haylo! Hi Kiss! Amazing reaction! Just to give you an idea about this passage in manga/anime, which ia a lot different then live action. For example, that pirate Don Krieg that Mihawke defeated was pursuit by Mihawke and ended up in Baratie, and Sanji saves even him from starving but they solve to attack the ship restaurant since their ship was sank by Mihawke. So, after Mihawke defeats Zoro he lost the interest about Krieg and leaves. THen Sanji fights against that guy he feeds and loose, but that guy did not kill him by gratitude and because of that Don Krieg kills his own crewmate. And then Luffy fights a long battle with Don Krieg who have a lot of hidden weapons in his armour including poisones gas, bombs, flame launcher, bullets, a spiking cloak and a explosive spear. Besides this Don Krieg is also strong enough to lift a ship boat to throw at Baratie. So this "Baratie Arc" its a bit different between anime and live action. I will tell you more curiosities after the next episode.

You're usually supposed to dislike pirate by default ... the bulk and norm of them are indeed criminals that will pillage , raid , kill etc . The ones that don't would those aspiring to be pirates , those that interacted with decent pirates . Guys like Luffy and Shanks are the oddities and outliers

The first season won't explain it, but in the world of "One Piece" there are 3 ways to get power. 1. a devil fruit 2. swords (Mihawk's sword is very powerful) 3. haki (Shanks used a haki to send the sea monster away)

Good catch that the starving pirate was part of the crew that Mihawk destroyed. I wish the pirate said it though. It usually goes by unnoticed. "One man destroyed our fleet" is all he needed to say.

Something to remember is that majority of pirates are actually bad people, killers and more, as we have seen with Kuroo and Buggy and more (commenting this after they finished the season)), so not everyone we see hating pirates just happens to have a trauma with them like them killing their loved ones or something, like Coby described in the first ep when he talks about why he hates them and we see the experiences he had with them before of meeting Luffy. Like, sometimes is the case, as with Nami, and theories are great, but I noticed you have said this about every character every time, so take this as a nice reminder to help :)
