When you go back to the Philippines with your family, explore to the different islands even if you only start on the major ones frequently visited by tourists. Visiting Palawan, Cebu, Bohol, Baguio or Tagaytay is enough to introduce them the diversity of the country. Of course local foods are included to know each islands better. Make use of the opportunity to explore while in the country as you plan to stay there for 6 months. Don’t just concentrate in Samal island but explore beyond Davao like Bukidnon and Siargao.

Olya replied Philippine Vodka! Philippine vinegar (Suka) is commonly fermented from Coconut. If the fermentation is allowed to continue, it becomes "Lambanog", a type of Philippine Vodka based on coconut. The juice can also come from Palm and you should try palm nectar fermented for only a few days called Tubâ (correct pronunciation is important). Tubâ is a delightful drink with mild alcohol content. Although the boodle fight was originated as military tradition in the Philippines its a seldome to see birthday parties doing this usually boodle fights are done during family bondings and gatherings like camping or picnic in farm, near the rivers, in beaches or in house friends as a way of welcoming them. During summer in the Philippines more and more young people are doing the boodle fights if they go swimming in rivers, lakes and in beaches because it is fun. You can always be creative if you wish to do the boodle fight especially in europe where banana leaf is very challenging to find. Aluminum is not bad at all.
