Long, before a group of Islamic State-linked terrorists began their killing at the Crocus Theatre in Moscow, jihad in Central Asia and the Caucuses, was stoked by a cynical geopolitical competition involving the Nazi Führer Adolf Hitler, the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin and the CIA. Even today, the mistrust and bitterness of this Cold War game undermines hopes of building a consensus against Islamist terror.

Islam is the most religious religion. The fact that religious Education, prayers, dress code etc.. are almost mandatory for many Muslims makes it different from World's other major faiths. I mean completely different & often volatile..

People needs to be really informed that it's USA and its pony Allies who have always given their active support to Islamic fundamentalist forces, specially Muslim Brotherhood. Thank you, sir, for explaining so beautifully such a complex issue in the most lucid way. However, you missed how the USA used to call the then emerging Islamic fundamentalism as "Islamic Renaissance" in 1950s and 60s.

Everyone has done it, even India now, Shia and Sunni doing it since time immemorial, and China is also doing it. Before the West, Indians were the first ones to know that Islam is a weapon and that is what Two Nation Theory is all about.

One of my all-time favorite history books, if not the most favorite, is "The Great Game" by Peter Hopkirk. This is about the struggle between the British and Russian empires in Central Asia. This episode reminded me of the book. The region is fascinating, but certainly had a very violent past, and still a somewhat violent present.

There books on Persian history, midival Indian history. USSR split. Communism from princely states. Ultimately AK47 and drones well handled with Art of War , strategies of Sun Tzu proved to be top for caring civil society and winning war.
