He’s definitely good enough to win gold, it’s just more of a debate of whether he can put all the matches together to win. Which is already a dumb take since he hasn’t lost a freestyle match in years, but even as a SL fan, is a valid take.

@matt6619 The thing is these last few years he hasn't really been competing in freestyle. I pretty sure this Qualifer was the first international tournament he's wrestled at in like 8 years and at the senior level. So, I'm not sure how much weight going undefeated in years really holds. I still think his chances are very good.

Seems like every U.S. wrestler could medal but in terms of gold… No one really talked about the competition level in each weight at US Team Trials. 74 and 86 were utterly insane. Dake looked the most dominant vs the strongest competitors. Lee and Brooks next in my book. Of course Brooks had close matches, he faced multiple world medalists in a two day period. 65… well Yianni didn’t even make it to the finals which says a lot, though Nick Lee and Retherford got to skip ahead. Here goes: Dake Brooks Lee Snyder Retherford Paris

People are over optimistic about these Olympics. Brooks is not a favorite for these Olympics. He will be running a gauntlet for the first time ever. He beat David Taylor twice, but he looked very vulnerable against Zahid. Singlet pull for the win. Mirasola took him down twice. These guys talk about Snyder as if a few adjustments are going to result in him suddenly beating Taz, who teched him 10-0 last time.
@kristopherwilson506
@kristopherwilson506 23 күн бұрын
he had to run a gauntlet just to get to Taylor, who was the consensus #1 P4P in the world. Not as deep as the Olympic bracket will be, but he beat Hidlay who won Bill Farrell and Zahid is world class. Sure, the quality of opponents may not be as deep but he's had that tournament experience of making weight two days in a row and wrestling with a short turnaround .

Taz scored 8 points on two defensive throws because Snyder was careless against the no-name wrestler and overcommitted on his shots. How many offensive points did Taz score on Snyder? It most certainly is something Snyder can turn around.

@@tylernicholson1155 That "no-name wrestler" handled what most people consider the #1 and #2 97kg senior men's international wrestlers, and the matches against Snyder and Sadulaev weren't even close. Taz deserves respect, and he sure has mine. He also beat Mohammedian from Iran 8-2 in the Asian games on his way to a gold medal performance.
@tylernicholson1155
@tylernicholson1155 23 күн бұрын
@paulmalfara6071 Did I say Taz doesn't deserve respect? At the time he was a pretty no-name wrestler... you cannot deny that. That is why Snyder didn't have his guards up. And youre failing to address the way in which he scored points on Snyder (because you know it doesn't support your argument). Sadulaev forfeited this same match due to a neck injury did he not? This tournament in the matches leading up to Taz, Sadulaev had some of the most unconvincing wins of his career by just squeaking out wins against wrestlers he usually destroyed. Then we discovered he genuinely had something wrong with his neck. So I'm failing to see how you're bolstering your argument by bringing this up. Taz is great and has beat many great wrestlers but stop acting like he went out there and put up 10 offensive points against a sharp Snyder because that's just fabricating history.

@@tylernicholson1155 Lighten up, Tyler. We'll see how things play out in the Olympics. I would point out a few things. First, Tazhudinov is only 21 years old. Young guys DO appear on the Senior Men's International Freestyle circuit, and they often make an immediate impact. Most American fans are hoping that Aaron Brooks will do so in these Olympics. If he does, he will do so as a "no name" wrestler internationally. The world does not follow NCAA folkstyle wrestling. The second point I would make is that Tazhudinov has a few years of pretty awesome success. He got a bronze medal at Russian Nationals in 2022, before he made the move to represent Bahrain. Now you seem to know something about wresting, so I don't have to tell you how tough a tournament Russian Nationals is. Since making the move to be the rep from Bahrain, he has won gold at EVERY TOURNAMENT HE ENTERED, including two Asian Championships (2023, 2024), two Grand Prix UWW Ranking Series Tournaments, the Arab Championships, Yasar Dogu (2024), as well as the World Championships last year. My final point is that he comes from Dagestan. Enough said.
