A CRA employee literally yelled at me last week. I was just asking some questions, to be sure Im following the law and he was mocking me and yelled. I asked him if he was having a bad day and he said yes, and yelled some more. I asked him for his name and he hung up on me. CRA is a joke.

I have to chime in, as an out of work Cyber Security professional my job (if I worked for the government), would be to help track and stop this sort of thing. Even with government clearance, years of experience etc. I can't get my foot in the door. Neither can many other security people - it's a myth that there aren't enough skilled workers available; the hiring system is broken in Canada. Don't hire the right people, don't expect the right results.

Until recently our phone bills did not look like mortgage payments and we did not sit on hold to India and others for customer service while receiving regular scam attempts from the same. CRA doesn't want to spend time looking for the actual criminals - it's much easier to go after regular hard-working Canadians. A friend sold a house in Toronto, now CRA is auditing them for almost a million dollars, claiming it was a business deal 8 years ago! Absolute disgrace.

One key to paying less taxes, if you can open up a side business. If where you work right now allows you to do this, you can use the business to write off all sorts of things. Your business doesn't even have to be that successful. Use it to explore tax breaks and shelters, while writing off parts of your life... making life a lot easier.

Oh dear !!!! any business has to consider a percentage of loss due to FRAUD. Fraud can not be eliminated 100% , this will cost more than the money wasted in fraud. However, the main goal of fraud prevention policies and tools are to minimize fraud as much as possible, but, can not reduce it to ZERO

The more I watch this, the worse it gets. There is no Real Telecom provider that would give 10's of Millions of dollars of credit to a company with a P..O box. Never. Seems to me that if we paid moderate taxes to our municipalities, we would have great schools, roads, hospitals and emergency services with far more accountability. Would eliminate this kind of fraud and federal bungling while also eliminating a corrupt and inept federal government with it's bureaucratic bloating costing us hundreds of Billions.

The entire taxation structure is regressive and made in such a way that honest and working class people are made to pay through their noses while manipulative individuals and corporations can milk the Canadian exchequer for their own good, while using the complex tax rebate programs set up by governments over years to supposedly help people but ends up helping those who knows how to find the loopholes and steal from the system. It is very disappointing and frustrating that our hard earned money goes out from our pocket in the name of income tax, property tax, HST on goods and services and we are discouraged to earn more while people living on subsidies, welfares and corporations defrauding CRA are the ones that are benefiting. Shame!

The US IRS collects $12 dollars for every $1 of funding, by auditing top earners. Canada should really pursue a similar path and extend that to corporate entities.

I dealt with nefarious Telus billing practices that involved at least three different customer service representatives in three different countries. It does not surprise me that corrupt telecom practices occur in Canada. The CRTC should reap the criminal justice that this kind of regulatory practice has sown in Canada. You cannot help but conclude that government regulation is as corrupted as the telecoms involved.

We pay income tax take home 70% then spend a percentage on Tax every time we spend that "Taxed" income... and the one who makes out The Government..

I know a lot of people think CBC is a waste, but the CRTC (which is truly directly affected by the government even though it’s supposed to be an arms length agency) keeps hacking away and restricting CBCs ability to remain relevant, all the while getting a lot of its money (I believe, if I’ve read things properly) from other platforms that compete directly for market space with CBC…

He can only claim back the tax if he paid the GST/HST. Each supplier has an HST number, it is not complicated. If he didn't know, then a smart guy like him should have suspected. If he paid the tax, then he is not responsible for verifying whether his supplier paid the tax. It is very simple, can he show that he paid the tax to his supplier? It's not rocket science.
