This video helps those that are at the margin, when they are think about doing a PhD. You need to assess if you are doing a PhD for the following reasons:
Do not do a doctorate if:
You are doing it to build up status or to convince others that you are good enough. You are good enough already. A degree is not going to solve that problem.
You are not ready to work on something for a long time by yourself. People who do a doctorate often find that it is very isolating. You have to be okay with being by yourself.
If you are not curious about the world around you. You will have to dream up your own ideas, and curiosity is very important to the career.
If you love fame and fortunate. You will likely do much better in a career that more professional in nature. The fame and fortunate you seek will not be accrued until you are decades into the profession.
If you are not an optimistic person. You have to be aware that you need to be optimistic to push through the bad times. Being a professor is more like be an entrepreneur than most people know.
