I read a book written about "Mary Anne," aka Amy Fisher, the husband's lover. Amy thought the amount of time (5- 15 years) she got for shooting Mary Jo was unfair. Her reasoning - that Joe should have taken some of the responsibility because he promised he would leave Mary Jo for her. LOL

Wow, the daughter's statements though..she still wanted her parents to stay together even after the fact....it really shows the very negative impact her dad had on the entire family . He cared nothing about his wife, what if Amy had gone after his kids instead? Would Jessica still have wanted her parents to stay together? I don't think so. That whole family is effed in the head. No clue what Mary Jo saw in him to stay with him for that long, he's not even handsome.

She has done so well to survive it all. The description when the piont was reached to leave him was similar to a lot of marriages including mine - what Ian Fleming who wrote teh James Bond books called the quantum of solace. When the quantum falls to zero then couples break up. That can be quite a long time coming particularly in Catholic marriages like hers and mine. (Not sure why anyone is criticising the daughter below in the comments - she was great)

Can't believe she called her family's tragedy an 'iconic pop culture phenomenon'. Girl's got issues...

Her dad’s underage teenage lover shot her mom in the head. I think she has the right to be dramatic

I've always thought Mary Jo was such a lovely woman.

One of the things that had always bother me back in the day was, how the late night comedians, talk show hosts, etc., made fun of Mary Jo's injuries. It doesn't matter how young Amy Fisher was, or how she wound up getting mixed up with MJB's husband. The fact of the matter was, she *SHOT* MJB right on MJB's *OWN DOORSTEP!!* The one area that should have been the safest place in the entire world for her. She left MJB with horrible injuries right in her face, & the late night talk shows & comedies mocked the poor woman. She could have been killed, & they made fun of her life-changing injuries.

It's interesting to hear her so open about drug abuse, but that she was so intent on keeping the image up later on. As a non-american, it does seem like there is all this pressure to be perfect and to deny an imperfect past. I don't know if that is or was the case in reality, but it does seem common. If true then it seems terribly sad and tiring to live that way.
