it's the spikiness and bass that makes it sound smoothed over as information is being masked, I personally think it bleeds into the mids and cramps everything together. I did mention one side was unbalanced by 3dB which drastically affects imaging (You cant have pinpoint accuracy if the drivers aren't playing nicely together)

Brain burn in

Basically, your brain is attempting to work out what to do with what it is hearing and tries to make it sound more "normal" to you

I have a unit that is unbalanced straight out of the box. I contacted the seller for RMA, but he insisted on giving it some burn-in. I explained that I don't believe in such thing, and he said fine; he would accept the RMA after three days, pleading with me to give the burn-in a try. So I did. I was checking the unit again meticulously and found it wasn't just a simple, unbalanced case. Testing using flat tones, it was leaning to the left from sub until mid bass, and then it went fine until upper mid, where it was leaning to the opposite side. I thought, "Jesus, this thing flipping sides like a giga politician would do". The treble was just pure madness. After burn-in for about four hours, all the bass problems are gone; add another four, and all the mids are fine. Everything is centered correctly. The treble, well, it's a planar... I hate burn-in, not because I don't believe it. I hate it, especially when it is really needed, because that shouldn't be my problem. Manufacturers should only sell units that are proper and ready to use, not make this incompetence of quality controls a gimmick for marketing.

These headphones are not planar, they are dynamic. Secondly, the channel imbalance on my unit which I measured and showed. Was consistent from the day I opened the box to the day I measured them again three weeks later of use.
