Last Turn only treats Battle Damage as 0, not to mention the monster and therefore the player has to still survive to the End Phase.

Honestly, I think it's down to the precise wording of the cards - Simochi triggers on effect activation and then Prime Material triggers when the effect actually resolves.

Isn't the main factor where on the field BRtS is? If it is on your side of the field, it doesn't affect you, and you just gain. If it is on your opponent's side, it's effect is canceled by PMD.

I think it makes sense, since it's a mandatory effect, it will try to resolve as much as possible. Excavating is fine, putting one card on the bottom of the deck is fine, but because Rai-Oh prevents adding cards to the hand, that other card has no place to go, so it defaults to going to the GY.

So, how I understand it is: You excavate, which is not considered adding. Then, once you've decided on a card, you go to add it to the hand, which the continuous effect of Thunder King then prevents you from adding, so the card you would have added, has nowhere to go, and is then sent to the Graveyard.

Shouldn't it be 1? Cause you can send Harpie Lady, then add a copy of Harpy Lady #1/2/3 from your Deck to your hand.

Huh. Until I read this I didn't even realize Duel Logs screwed up (again, considering the Kaiju negate question). Well, you know what they say about Yugioh players and reading cards.

Probably an accident by Duel Logs but it's actually a trick question. BRTS only affects the opponent, so PMD doesn't even factor into the question since Dian Keto only affects you. Didn't even realize until a comment pointed it out.

It doesn't count itself, but because there's no other monsters on field, there is no highest attack. It's like (N/A+100) instead of (Avatar's Atk+100). It is effected by the field spell, but it's own effect will turn it into highest attack+100 after the field spell is done applying. Because it doesn't include it's own atk it does as I said earlier.

A monster with ? ATK/DEF is treated as 0 by default if there's nothing to make it anything else, just so math can actually happen. That's why Sphere Mode is considered 0/0 despite having ?/?. The Wicked Avatar becomes "0/0, +100/+100" since that's how it's own effect calculates it. Yami can't do anything to it since Avatar's effect is constantly deciding its stats, and doesn't apply to itself or other copies of itself. Edit for clarification: The Wicked Avatar when alone will always treat its ATK/DEF as 100/100, because it references the ?/? instead of what Yami gives it. It's almost like a coding error that keeps trying to grab data that doesn't exist, so it defaults to whatever part of the code works (+100) and ignores everything else. It wouldn't be like this if there was also a Dark Magician. DM would be 2700 ATK under Yami, making Avatar 2800. Yami doesn't work on Avatar because it's calculating off of DM's ATK. Same case without DM, Avatar is calculating off of 0/0.

Basically, because there are no other monsters on the field, the highest attack besides itself is 0 attack points. Regardless of what the field spell does, The Wicked Avatar is going to go to the highest attack +100. Even if TWA were to gain attack from the field spell, it would ignore that because it can't use its own attack and defense as the targeted amount.

@@scottbecker4367 Yes, exactly, since it can't use it's own ATK as a reference, it should be 200 ATK or 0 (without field spell). "This card is unaffected by other card effects. This card's ATK is equal to the highest ATK on the field +100, excluding itself." Now the 100 ATK makes sense. If there is no Face-Up monster on the field, it should be treated as N/A rather than 0, but in the case that N/A is treated as 0 ATK on the field, the field spell should still make it 300, unless it sort of goes to 100, tries to go to 300, but it is set to 100 again somehow. It's as if the effect is constantly over-riding other effects, whereas something like Gale will set the ATK to half, but it can still be boosted. I think the card could easily use an errata if it was popular.

It would be 200 normally, but then its effect then makes it highest ATK excluding itself, but since there are no other monsters on the field, the ATK on the field excluding itself is 0 (N/A=0). It's like a Gale or Divine Serpent Geh effect that sets the value after everything is done. If N/A = 0, and it is also applying the effect afterwards like so, it starts to makes sense. With Link monsters, they have no DEF, but that is not treated as 0 DEF, so it can be considered confusing, but it might be different because TWA is still a card with a potential ATK rather than being restricted by a game mechanic, which always takes precedent over effects, unless there are exceptions like Silver Sentinel, Parasite Paracide that bypass game mechanics.

So what happens is that. >Last turn sends elephant and then the special summoning happens >If a battle happens, or even if it doesn't because of jowgen stopping the summoning the duel that's where Last turn's effect resolves >Then the Last turn user takes damage from the elephant and gets reduced 0 and Loses. Since Last turn doesn't take you directly to end phase after the battle.

From what I recall from playing Fabled, is that cards like this that activate from being discarded or sent from hand, just don't miss timing. It's likely cuz they resolve in a new chain after whatever happened to cause them to be sent to GY resolves.

@@mintagenart Yea it's actually pretty simple, Elephant Statue's effect is mandatory, no matter the "when" it *will* resolve. Because of things like that we don't see "when" on mandatory effects anymore.

It doesn't miss timing because it doesn't say "when... you can". It's a mandatory effect.

However, Last Turn is tricky because 2005 was its last printing (pre-PSCT) and cards like "Dark Spirit Art - Greed" from 2008 still read: "Tribute 1 DARK monster. Draw 2 cards. Your opponent can negate this effect by revealing 1 Spell Card in their hand." The Tribute is a cost, (costs are always paired with semi-colons PSCT), but like "Crush Card Virus", Greed can still be used in "Lair of Darkness" decks to tribute an opponent's card to let you Draw 2 cards. Interestingly, cards don't have to technically be reprinted to be updated. "Darkness Approaches" was only printed in MRL/SRL, but that set (both 1st edition and unlimited) originated in 2002; then it was reprinted again with Spell cards but the cards' numbers were still branded as "MRL-XXX" in 2003's Collector's Tins; in 2004's MC1 the set was fully rebranded as "SRL-ENXXX"; but then downgraded to "SRL-XXX" in 2010's Legendary Collection. And they are all printed as: "Discard 2 cards. Select 1 monster and flip it face-down, but do not change it's battle position." Even though Konami/card DB/wikia read: "Discard 2 cards from your hand. Select 1 face-up monster and change it to face-down Defense Position." ACCORDING TO ALL PRINTINGS, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO CONTROL A FACE-DOWN ATTACK-POSITION MONSTER!!
