according to a popular Bollywood legend, Meena’s father had left her at the door of an orphanage as a child. After some time, he returned to fetch the baby and to his shock, found ants crawling creepily all over her body. Analysing that haunting childhood incident, Mehta observed, “I believe that moment remained in her subconscious mind. Here was a traumatised soul. She could not have been a happy person. Life had decided that she will suffer. She was fortunate that this unhappiness was appreciated in her roles. She understood this emotion so well.”
'tragedy queen' of Bollywood, legendary actress Meena Kumari didn't have a smooth closure of life. Veteran actress Nargis had once spoken about her and congratulated her on passing.
She was famously called ‘Tragedy Queen’ in the film industry and in her career spanning 33 years in the film industry, Meena Kumari starred in about 92 films, which is a huge number. Apart from Meena Kumari’s talent, the actress’ personal life would often become a part of the limelight. Once married to director Kamal Amrohi, the veteran actress was allegedly a victim of domestic violence and had reportedly turned alcoholic in her later years.
It was on March 31, 1972, at the tender age of 38, when Hindi cinema lost a jewel from its crown. Nargis had paid the most surprising last respect to the actress. In a column written for an Urdu magazine, Nargis had congratulated Meena Kumari upon her demise.
she died at a shockingly young and tantalisingly seductive age of 38 it appears that she lived a life of 90. She passed away, merely weeks after Pakeezah (1972) -
It is not too hard to see how Meena’s real life often overlapped with her screen roles. The pain and pathos of the real life reflected in her onscreen characters. The actress’ performances in classics like Pakeezah, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai and Mere Apne are today appreciated and studied for their textbook perfection of tragedy and pathos. It is likely that she mined her own life to lend depth and gravitas to her roles. We do know that her poetry, which she left behind in the custody of close friend Gulzar, was a rueful rumination of her own life and failed romances.
We do know how the Meena Kumari story ended. She took to the bottle and let there be no doubt in your mind that alcoholism caused her untimely death. The girl who started out as Baby Meena, a child artiste and a breadwinner of the family, died as Mehta would have us believe, “unloved and unwanted.” In Javed Akhtar words, “People like Meena Kumari are paradoxes. We try to understand them, we appreciate them,

She loved the man who insulted and deserted her. Even after getting divorce she acted in his movies. And knowing that he didn't pay her even a single penny when she was dying, breaks my heart. How heartless n ruthless he must have been! Literally I am crying listening to her sad n tragic story. Look at the no of divorces that's taking place in the film industry these days, haven't heard news about any of the celebrity getting heartbroken or sad....May God bless her soul wherever she is now 🙏🏻🙇🏻‍♀️💝Ameen

Good presentation. Meena Kumari's life was also a tragic film. Kamal was responsible for devestation of Meenaji. Kamal's family in 2011 tried hard to prove that Meena was a bad character women. She was alcoholic & had extra marital affairs. But, her fans know who is who? Thanks for the video..

हर किसी को मुकम्मिल जहाँ नहीं मिलता किसी को ज़मीं तो किसी को आसमां नहीं मिलता, यही कहानी है मीना कुमारी जी की. और आपने बहुत ही खूबसूरती से इसको पेश भी किया है. मुझे उनसे सहानुभूति हो गयी जिस तरह से उनको अंतिम समय में उनके ही अपने लोगों ने अनदेखा कर दिया.

अजिब दास्ता है ये कहा शुरु कहा खत्म.... क्या दुख भरी कहानी है , हिंदी फिल्म जगत की एक महान अभिनेत्री, महान शायरा आदरणीय मीना कुमारी जी की, उर्फ महजबी की ( "महजबी" मतलब जिसके माथे पर चांद हो, इतनी सुंदर ) इस महान अभिनेत्री को विनम्र अभिवादन और श्रद्दा सुमन अर्पित.. क्या विधिका लेखा है , जिंदगी की शुरुवात एक लावरीस बच्ची यतीन खाने की सीडीपर और जीवनका अंत अस्पताल मे एक महान अभिनेत्री लावारिश लाश के रुपमे.. इसमे कोई शक नही की मीना कुमारी जी भारत की हिंदी फिल्म जगत की सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभिनेत्री थी,. उनकी मशहूर फिल्मे आज भी लोग देखते है, उनको और उनके बेहतरीन अभिनय को लोग आज भी याद करते है,. लेकिन एक अभिनेत्री के साथ वो एक महान शायरा भी थी.. उन्होने सच कहा मेरे अंदरसे जो जन्मा है मै वोही लीखती, ऐसीही शायरी, कविता,गझल जनम लेती है , उनकी निजी डायरी ही उनके जीवनकी कहानी बताती है,.. " टूकडे तुकडे दिन बिता, धज्जी धज्जी रात मिली, जिसका जितना आचल था, उतनीही सौगात मिली " .मीना कुमारी जी ने लिखा "आगाझ तो होता है, अंजाम नही होता, जब कोई मेरी कहानीमे" वो" नाम नही होता, हसी थमी है इन आखोंमे, नमी की तरह, चमक उठे है अंधेरे भी रोशनी की तरह " . कुदरत दर्द, दुख तो देती है हर इन्सान को, लेकिन ऐसा दर्द शायद ही किसीने देखा हो सहा हो , जिंदगी के हर मोडपर उन्हे दर्द ही मिला, दर्द सहनेकी की भी हद होती है, उनके जिंदगी मे आये , अहंकारी लोगोने ही उन्हे दुखी बनाया, जब आप चारो तरफ से दुखोसे घिरे रहते तो सिर्फ मौत का ही इंतजार रहता है , जो जीवनका अंतिम सत्य है , और इसीलिये स्वर्गीय नर्गिस जी ने मीना कुमारी जी के मौत के बाद कहा " मौत मुबारक हो दोस्त " आखिर मौत को भी मुबारक बोलना पडता जिंदगीमे .. विजय जी आपने अपने अनोखे शैली मे और प्रभावी शब्दो से जो मीनाकुमारी जी की कहानी सुनायी कहानी , सुनकर बहोत दुख हुवा लेकिन आपकी सुंदर प्रस्तुती के लिये आपका बहोत बहोत शुक्रिया....". सुख के सब साथी, दुख मे ना कोई.".. इस दुनियामे अकेले आना है और अकेले ही जाना है, .... 👍🌹🙏.

सच्चे अच्छे और ईमानदार व्यक्ति की भगवान किसी न किसी रूप में आकर मदद करते हैं। मिनाकुमारी जी कितनी ईमानदार थी कि उसने मुमताज का पैसा डूबाया नहीं अपना बंगला उनके नाम कर दिया। खुद के पास पैसा ना होते हुए भी उन्होंने चिंता नहीं की। भगवान ने भी उनको उनके अंतिम क्षण में संभल लिया। कहानी सुनकर मुझे बहुत रोना आया। मुझे विश्वास है कि भगवान ने उनको जरूर अच्छी गति दी होगी।🎉🎉🎉

After watching this video I figure out that Kamal Amrohi took a revenge on Meena from the start... probably for the refusal to work in his set film due to his rudeness, she was right. She was young not much educated and later fell a victim at kamal's hands. Her father was wise and could read the bullshit in Amrohi .He was married didn't care much about meena probably he had a bet with friends or himself to win Meena, marry her and dump her that was his plan. He never had love for her. Look at his behavior even when she was sick. He didn't want to pay the bills. Who husband does that!...yes Such bitch people exists. I also think he drove her to this sad emotional situation then used her as the right candidate to act in pakeezah where she really poured her sad emotions genuinely in those roles and guess what It was a hit movie and Amrohi pocketted all while she died of severe grief. She was used by Kamal.

Meena Kumari was the best. None of the actresses today are a patch on her. May her soul Rest In Peace.Meena’s shayari was the best. Guess Dharmendra learnt shayari from her. She found happiness in Dharmendra but for reasons known to them they drifted apart. Whatever the stories about Meena she will always be the top actress in Hindi cinema.
