I enjoy your videos, but as a Buddhist I have to say you do made a mistake with something. Is not that Buddhism proclaims that it takes billions of lives to become a Buddha, in fact enlightment can be achieve in one single life time (I think the minimal time according to most traditions is 21 days). Of course it can take several eons but there's nothing preventing someone to achieve it faster. Here and on the nature of Buddha there are important differences between the Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions (as for example Mahayana believe that Buddha was already a Boddhisatva while Theravada don't, they believe he actually achieve Buddhahoor in one lifetime. I think Theravadas for example do not accept the Jakata tales a canonincal for this reason). Another different is that Tibetan Buddhism considers that there are always 6000 years between one Great Buddha (Tatagatha) and another which means that could not be billions of years between Gautama and Dipankara (however different schoold do handle different time periods between the two).

@@ElOchentero Video writer here-- Agreed that many Buddhist traditions think that it can take followers as short as one lifetime to achieve awakening. One crucial element to the Siddhartha Gautama origin story is that his parents received revelations that their son would become a great sage. So they purposefully kept Siddhartha sheltered and "in the dark" about the miseries of the world.

That adds credibility to the story. Normally even a privileged (in the traditional sense) person would be told or even observe the facts of aging and death within their own extended family. It would take a special effort to keep someone that ignorant.

Sambridha Thapa it’s part of a much larger prophecy that exists as well, between every Buddha spawn there is a world empire that ruled by Chakravarti’s. A Chakravarti cannot exist at the same time a Buddha exists, hence why the King did not want his son to become a sage as he wanted his son to forge a World Empire as Atlas did with Poseidon’s Atlantis prior to the Younger Dryas Impact (10,000BCE) and as Ikshvaku did with Manu’s Surya Vamsa after (8000BCE-2000BCE). Younger Dryas Impact being a cataclysmic comet impact detailed in Gobekli Tepe inscription which created Meltwater Pulses that rose sea levels by 400’, submerging continents such as Azores (Atlantis), and Sundaland (Lemuria) while shrinking the coastlines (East US/West India). If you look on Google earth, every light blue area in the ocean was land before this impact.

In the story about Siddhartha being sheltered, he also is sheltered for a reason. His parents were told by a sage that their son will be either the greatest king, or the greatest monk. His father was terrified of the prospect of his son leaving him, had ordered that all suffering was to be removed from the palace.

I think one of my favorite things about the Buddha's story is that he gave various teachers and paths a good go, but once he realized they weren't working for him, he tried something else instead of engaging in sunk cost fallacy. It's a good lesson about being self-aware enough to know that you have genuinely given something your best shot and it's okay to move on.

He managed to realise this tool causes knowledge to crystallise, creating a division between the observer and the observed when, in fact, there is none. I grew up in Thailand, and the widely practiced version of Buddhism there is Theravada, which has been merged with Animism, meaning there is a strong belief in evil spirits that can harm humans, and many rituals to ward off or appease those spirits. Most houses around Chiang Mai where I grew up would have some kind of spirit house on a pillar or shrine where offerings would traditionally be made to spirits who may be around your home. It’s hard to say how much of the population of Thailand believes in the demonology side of this version, but over 90% of the country’s people identify as Theravada Buddhists, and beautiful temples ordained with depictions of the thinner, meditative Buddha can be found all over.

It's just the Tibetan Buddhism that has these supernatural elements. Buddhism in nepal, india(which can be regarded as purest form) do not have it for the most part where only supernatural elements implied are 1. Buddha's birth, 2. Prophecy of the chosen one and 3. Cycle of rebirth of all living beings(which is one of the fundamental aspect of Buddhism) and how Buddha can see past lives. There are no stories about Buddha doing miracles. There aren't even any festivals dedicated to the Buddha, so it definitely isn't a regular religion.

Great video and thanks for that. The ancient tradition of Dharmik religions of India, which Buddhism is part of, has common roots including the language of Sanskrit and the knowledge of right vs wrong. One of the the ultimate stages of meditation is “Vipasyana” which is extremely difficult to achieve and it’s said that Siddharth Gautam attained it and could stay in Vipsayana stage forever. Probably earlier followers of Boddhi satva (earlier Buddhas) could attain it too. But Gautam Buddha’s attainment is more well know .

Buddha had actually given instructions on how non buddhist can practice Buddhism whether they believe in an almighty God or they are aethists. There is a reason for that. Alot of what people forget is That Prince Sidhartha(buddha) lived in what Biblical literature refers to as the Silent Years. No active prophets, Little to no Temples left from the old world that that actually functioned properly. Basically no spirituality or religious doctrines for him to build on when he himself became spiritually minded. Plese contact me about this on account of your empathy for his story shows that you understand the spiritual anguish and frustration he must have felt with little to no spirit in the world at the time. That is why the more I come to respect him as a person, the more I come to disrespect modern buddhism and vice versa. Considering the lack of example. Im suprised he gained the wisdom that he did. I think it worked for him mostly because his self-discovery was more driven from hatred for the wicked world and it's distractions thaan it was a love/seeking for something more out there. I respect that greatly.

It's funny to me that so many disagreements of Buddhism happen simply due to linguistic variances. I would say that Samsara is similar to people working for an employer who will never recognize them. Awakening is the Epiphany that they don't need to keep feeding into this cycle. In my eyes, a midlife crisis can qualify as an awakening, and so everyone has the same potential. Even though it is the Kali Yuga, we have succeeded in helping humanity achieve a state of recognition that matters to them I'm so proud of humanity for getting to this point, it truly is a time for change

@Nix Man I learned it all in a different dialect, but the concept is the same isn't it? You're literally reaffirming my point that corrections and disagreements always stem from something irrelevant like spelling.
