Thanks for your comments. These teachings methods have been a huge success at our school. I'm a parent at the school, as well as the parent who maintains this website. The school started using these teaching methods with my son two years ago. He has responded very well, and it results in a more organized classroom as a whole. As a parent, I'm a big fan of having this in the classroom. My son has performed better in school since we've put this in place. He likes it, too.

I love how teachers bash each other. It's so professional and supportive... I see a class that is engaged, happy, and learning. She's not screaming at them, which is the tactic I see used the most to get class cooperation. If this isn't YOUR way of teaching- fine, but quit bashing other teachers for the way that works with them.

Whole Brain Teaching is AMAZING! I began my teaching career in the US & now I teach in England where I'm introducing it to my class of Year 3s (2nd grade equivalent). There is nothing that grabs their attention more and my pupils have SO much fun as we go through lessons using WBT. For all the people criticising, what you don't realise is that repitition is what helps retention & kids are so much more enthusiastic now about their learning. This vid is only short examples of the bits of WBT.

I love this! All the kids are engaged! I'm sure that this is just the whole group teaching part and there are small group or individual teaching moments. I will be doing this this fall! Can't wait!

I do think this is a great method of teaching... the kids ARE getting everything you tell them and there is no room for not paying attention... but, I also agree this shouldn't be the ONLY method of teaching!! Infact I've found the Sudbery and Montesori methods (which are the complete opposite) to work GREAT with kids!!!

Takara raises her left hand to speak and has been doing things you'd notice an instinctive side doing, therefore you'd notice this girl doing much worse in school exams because she doesn't memorize many things she has to but the ones she figures interesting or useful, but very very good in the things she's interested in (neuroscience)

Hi Stephanie, I noticed that you're a 'gonnabe' teacher, I just wanted to introduce you to Armis, and some of the benefits of playing Armis: * Armis develops critical thinking skills. * Armis builds self-esteem, skills are certain and measurable, not conditioned on any financial, academic, or social class. * Armis inspires you to be inventive. * Armis emboldens you to learn and understand complex * Armis spurs you to plan for and attain success. * Armis sharpens your analytic and cognitive mind

as a teacher wannabe, there is never going to be a perfect way to teach, no matter how we do it there will be a critic, I think this is a great foot in the right direction over just didactic teaching.

WOAH! Rule number 5! If students are taught to "please" their teacher they are not developing intrinsic self control. I wonder how they act when the dear teacher is not present? I guess this is the difference between teacher centered, and student centered education.

+JazzBender88 Exactly- this seems like boot camp- I don't think I want to introduce this into my class, I seriously wouldn't like this- it sounds condescending. Maybe I am not understanding the whole deal...

This is what I call indocrination for mindless obedience for the sake of obedience itself and controlling behavior (so-called classroom management) at the expense of the students' creative, critical, and higher-oder thinking skills. If this works for kids and they seem happy is because they like talking, moving around, singing, and immitating others. Effective classroom management is, as evidenced by this video, not necessarily synonymous with empowering, liberatory, democratic education.

what would happen if a child had an original thought? I get that it works for rote learning but what proportion of the day would this work for then? This really shocks me that we can treat children in such a mindless way. We all have our methods for getting attention but it shoud be left there - someone has taken this way too far!
