I tried something new this Christmas! I didn't write their names on the gifts and only got them art supplies. They're really into art right now. I was a bit nervous since there was no toys but the outcome was amazing! They played together with everything, since there was no "that's my toy". I will note that my kiddos are 5 & 3. But overall for our family it was great! Their closet full of toys doesn't need anymore!

My family got me In Praise of Slowness for Christmas (thanks to you recommending it) and it was so good! I have to say I loved the section about slow food to be so inspiring! We have cleared out at least 10 big boxes of stuff and I finally donated my boys baby clothes. I feel like I can breathe easier.

Team failure here too. Last Christmas I even wrote a note to myself not to get so many gifts but we failed. For a normal person it is not a lot (8 gifts per kid) but for my kids it was a lot. Again this year after opening the first present they just wanted to play with that thing and not open the rest. Hopefully by next Christmas I will learn not to dance to this consumerism tune where I feel like giving just one or two gifts is cruel. My kids were more excited about the pretty tree, treats and sledding and overall Christmas spirit than the gifts.

I am decluttering too. Everything. Every drawer / closet / attic / box. What you won't see is a completely empty house. I put it down to an easy, attractive live in look. That I like, can maintain etc. But you look in the drawers / closets etc. Empty. I went thro 43 years of things and created 6 moving bags. Wedding / photos / legacy / living / funeral. Wedding - everything to do with our wedding day. photos - everything to do with our married life of 43 years and 6 children. All photos out of photo albums and whoever is on the photo, put in the photo boxes, each child a different color. Plus baby book. Legacy - everything to do with keepsakes coming down thro both sides of our families. Putting it down to this one moving box. Funeral box - everything to do with funeral planning etc. Living box - taking all the remaining living possessions down to what we need for living now. And the 6th bag is for items if we need care. Pill containers / extra sheet sets, hospital gown, cane, that kind of thing. I enjoy thrifting so I pick up these items with my shopping. If we never care that will be grand. But if we do, preparation has been made. What's left in the house can be moved out. The keepsakes of any value have been gone thro for each child and our married years. They will not need to comb thro heaps and heaps of things. The drawers are empty.

Madisun! You inspire me in my motherhood so much. Thank you for your incredibly refreshing and peaceful content. I have 3 little ones and a small house. We are constantly trying to declutter. I find it hard to have the time to do it even as a stay at home mom. I got a lot done today 🎉 I almost had to get mad at how much the stuff was closing in on me. I usually freeze and get stuck in overwhelm. I love that you gave permission, a beautiful reminder “Don’t forget, You can start late, start over, be different.” This is so freeing, especially coming away from this busy, demanding culture. ❤ Blessings!! I believe that sometimes our desire for minimalism can be a source of stress if we are rigid in decluttering timelines. If you overdid Christmas, that’s okay. Maybe this is an area where you allow yourself less minimalist rules. The most important thing is your children’s joy with the holiday. Your videos are great, thanks for sharing.

Hey, you’re allowed to grow and make your own mistakes, Madi. Your process is yours to have free flow through. You’ve only helped so many of us along your journey that seeing you open up makes following your story that much more sweet. In this prolonged spirit of nostalgia, I still secretly miss your 500sqft home videos. You’re the longest and first channel I think I started following, and yes I am still working through your course, haha. Though, I may get derailed even more attempting to try out those amazing homemade marshmallows. Are you kidding me? My kids would go ballistic. They look devine! 💗

love this! Always interested to know how you dispose of things in the most sustainable way possible - a video idea? A big part of minimalism is making sure all our unwanted stuff doesn’t go straight to landfill where it just becomes an even bigger problem for the earth :) Just like what do you recycle, where do you donate, do you see if friends/family have use for it etc

Watching you make marshmallows with your littles was so adorable - you've inspired me, although I may wait until it's a little cooler here in Aus. I felt like the Grinch this Christmas. I didn't get everything on their Santa lists and there was much disappointment... I felt so bad afterwards :( but when I looked around they already have so much stuff that already doesn't get played with - the balance is tricky. Thank you for sharing such thoughtful, peaceful and inspiring content. Wishing you all the best for the new year. xx

Just a thought - if you can afford to - donate the things they don’t play with and purchase (2nd hand where possible) the things they would like? Obviously not all the time but it doesn’t matter if it’s Christmas or not. A gift at the time they are interested in something is even more gratefully received I find. Don’t feel bad at all I’m sure your kids had a lovely Christmas x

You have been such an inspiration to me..as a single mama of 4 kids under the age of 12, I look to your videos for peace of mind that parenthood can be enjoyed. Also..I am also in CA and have been having the worst time with the mold living on the North Coast. Do you have any suggestions how you keep your home mold free?
