We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the over 500 community members and supporters who participated in the Navy SEAL Foundation's Whole Warrior Health Huddle: Broadening our Knowledge of Suicide and Addressing the Pain of Loss.
We understand that addressing this complex and tragic topic can lead to more questions. If during the discussion you recognized signs that you, a teammate or a family member need information or assistance, please connect with any one of the resources provided in the attachments--let someone know.
We realize many of you have been touched personally by loss, and specifically loss by suicide.
We hope this discussion empowers you to seek support.
Thank you to our speakers for sharing their experiences, and to Naval Special Warfare for participating and making this a priority. Some key takeaways from this discussion are:
1. It can be hard to ask for help, especially when you are uncertain of what type of help you need. Ask anyway and allow teammates, friends, family and supporting organizations to help you get started on the path to recovery and health.
2. Toughness is necessary; resilience is imperative.
3. There is increased access to care within NSW and through supporting organizations (like NSF). Let us help. This can and does occur with respect and dignity.
4. Just like we lock our doors and our cars, we can create just enough time to deter suicide if we do the same for weapons.
5. Overall wellness matters. If you or a loved one are struggling, there are options that are proven to be effective at improving overall health.
6. Don't assume you have to go offline to get help. There is a way to keep you in the fight.
Leverage the community, your community, to take care of each other.
The Navy SEAL Foundation is here to address your unique needs with over 30 programs under five Pillars of Support. These programs are designed to build strength and resilience, encourage optimal health, enhance opportunities for growth through education, and solidify a sense of community and belonging.
