I'm growing corn for the first time this year, so this video was great timing for me! I've been chitting my potatoes on a sunny windowsill and have thick green sprouts, and it's been really fun to watch!

I thought I was going crazy when I went in my greenhouse and all my bean seeds were missing with perfect holes where they were! Wonder what that is that steals them!

This is so helpful - thank you! May i ask you to please comment on why you see your peas so very thickly? Do you then thin the seedlings when they are up? Thanks sgain.
@wholefedhomestead

I don’t thin. I sow thickly because our soil can support it and… well, I get more peas. 😊

How much wiggle room is there in timing for planting potatoes? Is it better to wait until the sprouting is the correct length, even if past last frost date? Or should I put in ground even if it’s just barely stubby so I don’t miss the window. I’m almost at our last frost date but my seed potatoes aren’t as sprouted as the ones you showed as ready for planting.

Ooh good question. I’d say get them in the ground sooner than later if they have even a bit of life sprouting from them. I’d plant them now. Definitely make sure your soil is 50°F 4 inches down at 7am frost though.

@@wholefedhomestead thank you! We had a bit of a heat wave, but it’s going to be nice (but wet) spring weather by Friday here, for a while.

How deep do you plant the peas? Your trench is definitely deeper than I have ever planted and this is maybe why mine fail.
@wholefedhomestead

I think it looks deceivingly deep… we plant them between 1/2-1” deep.

They will still produce potatoes but yield will be significantly lower.
