From a game design perspective, it actually makes sense for Super Nova to be a little weaker than a lot of FS's. First, it's range is a little bit better than a lot of other characters, and more importantly it's followed up with a random debuff if you survive. The latter potentially puts you into an unsalvageable situation even if you live, so balancing it out by reducing the initial damage dealt makes a lot of sense. In every other way it's completely bogus of course, but still.

To be fair, the Supernova after-effect can make the characters dizzy or sleepy so that'd be a free gigaflare punish, which would lead to a 0-death. But yeah, it depends on the RNG whether you get a 0-death or not.

If I recall correctly, the final battle against Sephy took place in Cloud's mind; that probably explains why Supernova doesn't do as much damage as one would have thought, since the star and planets exploding never actually occurred. Edit: Turns out that only the battle against coatless Sephy happened in Cloud's mind.

Imo Sonic's 100% should've been in inconsistent, bout to test it but if you wait for brawler to fall then go up along side him, you may be able to connect more hits PS:just tested it: waiting for brawler to fall off works sometimes, and even without actively trying to get as many hits as possible, it sometimes works and sometimes not so yeah imo it could be categorized as inconsistent

Sonic's is inconsistent. Needs to be controlled better + has a final hitbox close to him when the emeralds leave him.

I think Sephiroth’s final smash is a nod to his actual attack in final fantasy 7 not killing, but instead just ‘nearly kills’ you while also adding status affects. Though I’ve heard that in the Japanese version, it actually can kill you, though I’ve never played that version.

This should just be called “proving to people that 88% of final smashes are stronger than Sephiroth’s” (yes I did the math and took the unpredictable ones out)

Sephiroth’s final smash is strong for it’s chance to break shield and put an opponent to sleep which is a guaranteed KO for Sephiroth if it happens. Not to mention the reversing of controls makes it harder to dodge for a bit, and more often than not leads to a KO. The worst one has to be flower since it just adds damage but doesn’t make getting a KO significantly easier.

The thing I like about Sephiroth's is that it is still good when the enemy is at low %, because if you get the shield break or sleep effect, you can deal upwards of 80% on your own after the ult finishes

What really makes Supernova one of the best final smashes is it’s easy hit easy learn hit box and the status effects because you can be hit at 0 percent but if you fall asleep or are dazed then the giga flare is an instant KO most of the time

These results actually make sense. In the FFX11 supernova actually cannot kill (except in the Japanese version). Instead it does exactly 15/16th of your current health to your entire party

Actually that so called supernova spell is in fact a super realistic illusion created by sephiroth. The power of that attack depends on how much the victim thinks it woukd hurt them. Kinda like genjutsu’s from naruto not actually real but so real that your body and mind get damaged from it.
