1/43 is the perfect size. A lot of the European cars from my youth (1970's-1990's) are available, very realistic and perfectly detailed. I do have quite some 1/64 as well, but don't buy them that often anymore.

1/43 has THE best variety of ALL marques that NO OTHER scale caters for. Size perfect for presence in the cabinet, detail is more than ok. I did collect 1/18 too..still have loads..mainly diecast but prices these days are prohibitive to the glory days over a decade ago that I buy so little.

I started buying 1/18 scale models back in early 2020. First was a red Infiniti Q60S, then a McLaren 12C and Aston Martin Vantage V12. After those, a Jaguar XJ220, Ferrari F50, Citroen GT and Range Rover Evoque Convertible (Yes, I love weird cars). Last year, I've sold the Citroen GT and Vantage to a collector because of payments for my real car. Realized that, even though they're nice to look at and highly detailed, they take up a lot of space. So, stopped getting that size and went with nice quality 1/43 models that, ever since I've started collecting, have grown into a decent number of cars. Currently, finishing up my Lamborghini collection. P.S. I don't buy them in mass mindlessly like hot wheels. I choose the models that are dear to me.

In terms of 'toys' to be played with and knocked about, I used to have a collection of 1/64 when I was young, with a load of hand-me-down vehicles from my brother. Very occasionally, I'd be gifted a larger scale (generally BBurago) vehicle for my birthday or Christmas, which was more satisfying but clearly (even in my child-brain!) not designed to be played with - so they'd inevitably end up tucked away in a corner. These days as an adult collector, it's 1/43 I've returned to - mostly because there's more variety in terms of castings compared to smaller scales. And there are some cheap and cheerful offerings too, but the prices can skyrocket!

I suppose it’s based on preference, because for example you can get some really nice detailed 1:43 scale models from manufacturers such as Minichamps and Autoart. As a collector of 1/43 scales I would say there are less opportunities compared to larger scales. There is a really nice model only available in 1:18 scale that I wanted but sadly they didn’t do for 1:43 scale. I’ve just always been fond of 1:43 for the last several years. It really depends on what you prefer though because every collection will be different

I read the title and I was like "How?! Most commercial companies have 1/43 scale models! Bburago(I know not all of their models are actually 1/43, there's a certain degree of scale fluctuation, but still!), Jada Toys, Even Hot Wheels now!" But then I actually watched the video and I realised that I'm a European so, what he says about the US might still be true. 🤷🏻‍♂️😀

The real point is this: if a 1/43 model car scale cost me like a 1/24, i just buy the last one at the same price but at the double of the size, opening doors and other stuff. The cons of the bigger scale is the amount of space it require and the 1/42 can save you a lot of space and you can enjoy your hobby but, man...1/43 are very expensive for that size.

I started with 1/43 race cars , then 1/64 race cars then a couple of 1/24 race cars. But In the end, I prefer 1/43 beacuse #1: selection. great models and lots of them from Looksmart/ Spark/ IXO/ TSM and FUJIMI. 2: Models: There just are so many models from all of these companies to choose from. 3: Detail. When it comes to detail, in 1/64 its Tarmac Works. In 1/43 everyone is a good and better than Tarmac Works. Why spend 25-35.00 on 1/64 when for 25.00- 50.00 to 100.00 ( yes Looksmart ) you can get bigger and better cars than in 1/64. Good deals can be found on E-Bay every day. I've collected all of the 1/64 I can and it is less than 100 models. In 1/43 I have twice as many and there are 100 more that I want to collect.

@@markzebr6463Tarmac Works is definitely not the best in 1/64, like common dawg there are instances when MiniGT was just better. Compare their Paganis, MiniGT has detailed interiors with different colors, engine is also painted so you can see it. Then I got Tarmac Works Huayra BC and while its good, the interior is pitch black but the car has full panoramic windows even on top, like dawg you could've painted seats red like the original car. The engine is also just black, MiniGT tries to highlight it on their Huayra. Also lights aren't separate detailing on all of their Paganis. Cinque has weird proportions because of the opening hood, I wish MiniGT would make the Cinque

the problem with 1//43 is they don't display well. Too small you can't see them from across a room. However, they are the best value buy.

1/43 is your go-to choice if you care about *VARIETY* There are so many weird, rare, and obscure cars made in this scale. I jokingly call this a rule 43: If some car exists, there are most likely a 1/43 scale model version of it.

Hot wheels and other 1/64 are priced at $1 making them insanely popular for kids then adults collect them for the nostalgia factor. The production cost will always be higher for 1/43 scale but potential for detail obviously better. The barrier for entry is just easier for 1/64.

Diecast is a weird world I have been a collector of multiple things over the years and I have never heard someone talk about loving something and not collecting it because of other people don't buy it.I thought that would make it worth more over time because less people have it.

I was really looking into moving up from inno64 to 1/43 scale but I ended up noticing that despite there being enough variation for me, I started to see a quality defects. I noticed a lot of older releases have plastic pieces deforming and peeling off. And this was with high-end brands such as welly, autoart, mark43, kyosho. This is really worrying me from moving up to based on the fact that I will be spending double or sometimes triple the amount of a inno64 model.

You are referring to resin made 1/43rd...not white metal, right? In white metal 1/43...there are several higher-end builders than your list. Some that are now longer in business, but models are in high demand for they will never be produced again. Motor City USA, Design Studio, U.S. Model Mint, Minimarque, Conquest/Madison and Highway Travelers to name a few. The heft, the quality in paint and detail on a Motor City USA or Highway Travelers is second to none. Most were very limited in production, as well. Happy Collecting! JJ

@@ExKUKicker I was actually referring to the diecast models. It's actually quite amazing. I have seen some motor city models also have windshields popping off. To be honest, I have not heard of the other brands but, it seems like most end up having some defect down the line. To invest so much into a different scale with that much uncertainty about if the quality is going to keep up is not something I would like to take a chance. Happy collecting

Most models 1/43 are nice for certain brands like ferrari, etc. But BBR is way to much cash. 1/24 -25 are the best for building just wish some one but alpha models would make a 488 ferrari

As a 1/43 collector for 35 years now, I have to, somewhat, disagee with you, gents concerning the 1/43rd. scale. There have been several new manufacturers pop up over the last decade. Now, with that said, they are producing strictly resin models...no white metal pieces. Brooklin controls that market now and Buz Kirkel (Route 66 Diecast) has purchased some of defunk company's molds and is producing some very nice detailed white metal models. I spoke with an owner on the east coast a few years back and stated that 1/43rd. scale is huge in Russia and Eastern Europe demanding American cars in this scale. Frankly, I hope 1/43rd. drops off for a decade because just like everything...it will cycle back around and the demand will come back once future collectors see the detail and just how many they can have in a small area? Its quite tedious to manufacture high detailed 1/64th scale. They just can't come close to the 1/43rd. in my opinion? Great Show!👍

1/18 is too big 1/43 is too cheap looking and really is a toy 1/24 scale is a sweet spot for me ..best details and a significant car to hold. But nobody makes them, its the closest to a Tamiya plastic model that you can get and they are significantly detailed. .
