This video dives into why a lot of golfers (we're talking 99% of all golfers) struggle to increase their swing speed and two simple moves you can do, one for the lower body and another for the upper body that's going to give you an increase in swing speed. I'd had students gain as much as 5 -10 miles per hour on their swing so this is certainly worth a watch!

Great explanation and demonstration. I see a lot of myself in your examples of not getting the timing right- shifting the weight forward and thereby creating a counter reaction and early extension, rotating the hips too much and thereby inadvertently coming around and over the top, etc. I’m going to work on the movements and thought patterns as you’ve explained them and see what happens. That squatting move is especially challenging but I’m going to work on it. 😊

I also love the break down and the drills to ingrain the movements! I can see how well it would work pre game or even in the middle of holes or shots if something has thrown you off your game. I was in a very serious crash a couple years ago, and I'm not getting any younger. Slowly I'm getting back into it, I started out 9 holes at a pitch and putt. Now I'm doing all 18 lol, breaking a sweat too. These drills are a great tool to get back the movements that I once took for granted. Thank you so much!

Thanks. Well presented. I am interested in the follow-up. If I don't warm up before playing it takes me 5 or 6 holes to get my body in sync. First driver swings are always low hooks, path is ok, but clubface closed. Then comes right.
@harryshawgolf
@harryshawgolf 6 ай бұрын
Hi Phil, thanks for commenting, I’ll take not of this to add into the next step (follow up video if we hit over 10 comments). Do you find this is mainly with the longer clubs? Or just the driver?
@danbenedict8375
@danbenedict8375 6 ай бұрын
When I was younger I was known as a long driver by my playing partners. I used to go to the range and hit nothing but the driver. I was always looking to hit it the absolute best that I could. I found out to increase my swing speed, I would get into a rhythm at 75-80 percent speed and then “ramp up” the speed at which I was swinging. If I got out of sequence, I would ease back until I got back in rhythm then try again. You have to be a little fearless to gain speed. You’re going to hit some bad shots when you try to hit it hard, but it sure is fun when you get it right.
@harryshawgolf
@harryshawgolf 6 ай бұрын
Totally agree, when attempting to max out speed it’s important to complete forget about the technical aspects of the swing unless it’s to do with helping you gain More speed (working the ground more and whipping the club). How’s your golf going?

Hi, thanks for commenting, I’m pleased to read you’ve been able to grasp the concept of the ground reaction forces in our swing, and how we should be producing them, is the short orange whip some sort’ve training aid to help build speed?

@aaronrika7581 6 ай бұрын
It's a tempo swing trainer. Flexible shaft with a heavy tennis ball sized ball on the end. Come in driver length as well. I like the short one to use inside, can do full swings and feels like your swinging a real club.

Great video. Really helped clarify the shift from the drop down of the lead leg to gain ground force. The shift back to 50/50 happens naturally for me now as my centers realign. I've been taught to maintain the bend in the trail leg so when I turn lead hip into trail foot I squat on the back swing then push off trail foot and push off lead foot to turn lead hip up and away like you say. Does this still make sense since I am only initiating the squat in the last half of the backswing after parrallel?
@harryshawgolf
@harryshawgolf 6 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for commenting, i would delay the squat until you get to the very top of your backswing, this is because when we bring this in during any point of the backswing, we don't initiate the lower body as efficiently during the downswing. Hope this makes sense, if you'd like me to explain further, I'd be more than happy to arrange a zoom call to discuss how we can get the lower body working at the correct point.

@@harryshawgolf I'm on est time. I am flexible. My biggest issue is with the driver. I have an issue with initiating the bump to the lead side and when I do I fall back on the trail foot. I do drop my hands behind me on the downswing. When I hit my 7 iron in the simulator I get the preasure with my trail palm and push of the trail side by thinking of the trail knee to the inside of the lead knee and I have hot my 7 as far as 194 yards with a draw about 20 yards off center. @@harryshawgolf Driver swing at 104mph ball speed at 153mph. Right arm gets stuck and I early extend. Been following the Speed Sticks protocol but no real progress. Goal is to get to 110mph driver speed. Your videos are very helpful, I just struggle to focus on what to focus on. I have a focus problem.

The key for golf is to find something, either a move or a drill to really focus on, to put all your energy into improving, rather than trying 2/3/4 things at a time. One at a time is key, and even if it takes over 6 months to nail that one thing, you stick to it. If you're looking for this simplicity, I'd be more than happy to arrange a zoom call to discuss how we can work together to help you over come this... the link is in the description.
