It's basically upto us if we want to adapt all the lessons by them and how and where we use them. I'm smart enough to not flaunt my pronunciation skills in front of my friends and relatives. I'm neither judging them if they're not pronouncing as I am. But I can surely use them to impress my boss. I can use better words and their alternatives in my write ups and articles because I've love for the language and i have learnt a lot from their lessons (esp Aleena Raees's videos. She injects a drop of confidence within me and elevates my love for the language everytime i listen to her. I don't know much about Kanchan). It's not like they're demeaning the Indian pronunciation, they're just telling the better ways to do them. However, I agree they should stop using the phrases like "ye pronunciation ghalat hai" or "you're mispronouncing these words". It's just that they have studied enough and hard and hence are now making their living by using their capabilities and showing it off. There's nothing wrong in that. Talking about ki ye words English movies ya kahin aur use nai hote, usse hme kya fark padta hai? Hme bs ye pta ho ki is word ko aise b bol sakte hn, bs ab hm unhen kb, kaise, kahan bolen ya use karen ye hmare upar hai P.S. People are using the word "accent, Indian accent and all". Remember she had said in her interview with Sandeep Maheshwari that any accent is good and she hasn't backed off from her words. She's correcting the pronunciation and other skills like communication. PRONUNCIATION AND ACCENT ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS. POLES APART.

Language is pure art. You can pronounce words however you want to and it's alright it doesn't magically change the way language works. People have accents, but there's always a correct pronunciation. Americans mispronounce Indian names all the time, and we correct them. If you cannot pronounce Aniruddh because your tongue isn't trained to make the sound of "ddh" it doesn't change the fact that it's pronounced in a certain way. Croissant begins with "Khwa" sound even if you call it "Crausaunt". There are correct pronunciations, and there are incorrect pronounciations. Not everyone is a language geek, but some are. Some genuinely want to learn the correct way of pronouncing words. Channels like English with Lucy make videos for a targetted audience, and you are free to ignore those videos. But mocking such channels and creators just because you don't want to consume their content is stupid and embarassing.

Wholeheartedly agree. It’s the first video of spill bee I don’t completely agree with. There is always a way words were “meant to” be pronounced. French and Italian too have their own way of speaking and pronunciation but that doesn’t invalidate the original pronunciations. It is OKAY for someone to try to speak whatever language they speak in the most proficient manner. Especially now that we might have to communicate/orate to western audience. An American making an effort to pronounce Hindi words in the best way possible so that Indians can understand him better is never ridiculed, so should be the other way around.

I absolutely agree even if we can't pronounce or don't want to pronounce in a certain way still we can't deny the fact that there is always a right pronounciation of words and it's not just about English in every language there is a right pronounciation. It's just on us if you don't wanna speak the right pronunciation just don't . But those who are teaching you are not supposed to criticize them .stop yr agr nhi sikhna h aapko to mt sikhiye but let them teach who wants to teach and let those learn who want to learn

Similarly, just because one doesn’t like or understand pronunciations doesn’t mean they are forced upon us!! Students who love science or maths learn those subjects with enthusiasm!! Language is just a language. No language is inferior or superior. I have seen people considering themselves superior just because they are better at English or know big words. Or judging others for mispronounciations. Im guilty I have been one of them but no more.. And It took me years to realise that. I'm well versed in hindi (my mother tongue) , English( credits to colonial hangover) , bundelkhandi (dialect from central India) and now I it has been almost two years of me learning French. Here's my take on the video, I've been in one of the top 5 English medium boarding schools from class 1 till 12th. The pronounciation of words like plumber and poem was corrected by our teachers as well, and it did help especially those students who were planning to study abroad. Having control on your language is something which is very useful for writing SOPs and essays, which are required for applying abroad. Personally,Urdu is the means of communication in our house and I dislike it if someone cant pronounce the words properly. I know how to speak and write Urdu,Hindi and English very well and a tad bit of Spanish. When I was learning Spanish,i made sure to pronounce the word exactly how it is supposed to be pronounced. It's easier to gwl in with soanosh soeaking people that way. This was my take on the video. And agar indian English aati hi hai,toh what's the point of watching hwr channel. Those who want to improve their english speaking skills and learn new pgrases and words should watch such channels.

Just because someone speaks a lil different than others doesn't mean that they are showing off.

That's why humari english ke pronunciation too some extent humari first language se match karti hi hai thats why we can also see diversity of Indian english accent also across India.

Speaking it in a right way will make us better fit in professional setup. Otherwise, we will end up being a joke to everyone in the conference room. So pronunciation does matter.

I've personally never believed that there are right or wrong ways to pronounce words, as u said people from different parts of the world have their own accent and thus pronounce words differently and that's okay and we should respect that. But again sm words do have a definite pronunciation, for example stomach, it has a "c" sound and the h is silent, and it's pronounced in this way all over the world, so here accent doesn't play a huge role. Same for words like psychology (h is silent) & receipt (p is silent)

Seriously.. I have been an IELTS trainer and students their focused on speaking in American or British accent. I always guided them to speak in accent you normally speak in, else it would sound pretentious. When a foreigner speaks broken Hindi, we never make fun of them, do we? English is difficult to learn because the roots of pronunciation come from Latin or French, which are altogether difficult languages to learn. English is just a language and pronunciation itna sahi ho ki saamne wale ko samajh aa jaye. Don’t stress over accent, Indian accent hi rakho :)

Rubbish! When I try to speak Hindi I am always made fun of in India. So much so now, I am so self conscious to speak it. When I tried to speak French or Spanish they never made fun of me. But Indians are really patronising.

@Maina B my accent is pretty spot on and yet I get made fun of by friends because they know I have lived abroad. I am half Indian and I have lived in India. However, no matter how much I try to assimilate I will never feel like this is my home because they keep trying to make it out like I am putting on an accent or they will mimic the way I speak Hindi even if it sounds EXACTLY like how they say it. Just by virtue of me living abroad and learning Hindi at a later stage in life I am branded as the 'firang'.

@Maina B why should NRI's/foreign returns get made fun of? How childish and immature. I am not an NRI ...I am not fully Indian like I mentioned. In any case I do not see how it is ok to make others feel small just because they don't fit your small minds.

Oh girl it's damn true, I'm here in uk , i talk with British people and yes they have there different accent but the think is that it's very easy nd comfortable to talk to them because they don't judge me about my pronunciation, infact i speak simple English and with confidence. It helps me to communicate better with them. But in India people don't take it as medium of communication they just take it as status symbol, or to impress other. This is totally wrong.

People here need to understand that there's a difference between pronounciation and accent. Just because you have an accent does not mean you can just spell any word however you like. A pronunciation is already how it is supposed to be said that is exactly why it exists. Not trying to say that spelling a word wrong gives you an excuse to demean anyone but at the same time people really need to stop passing their judgements on the ones who know how to pronounce it right. If commenting on someone who pronounces words wrong as 'respect the fact that they are learning' is fine and whatever then why is commenting on people who know how to pronounce words right as 'show off' and 'extra' right. It's just biased hypocrisy. If you do not know something try to accept and correct yourself, there's nothing wrong in it rather than putting so much effort in trying to make the other person the bad guy for just helping you find the right way. Also these videos are made for the people who want to learn in the first place.

I saw a video in which a A Indian lady pronounced "ramen" wrong all the people are own country bashed her like wtf . If foreigners are not taking this much headache while pronouncing our words correctly so what's the issue. Just be proud what you're. Jai bharat 🤍

In 21st century, we are all a global family and there's nothing such as American, British or Indian accent. We may grasp a word from anywhere and we pronounce it the same way we've heard when it stayed in our memory. Stressing on pronunciations and accents is very outdated to the present day world. And also using "too difficult" or "too simple" vocab isn't a point to raise kuz due to acess to every word, the global vocabulary is also growing and at the same time, it's perfectly OK to keep simple. Enjoy your conversations and listening to the people you talk to, rather than judge them. Being natural in whatever your way is is a comfort to yourself and others.

You explained it in an amazing way. Whatever you mentioned is indeed correct. In India we all focus on studying English , forgetting that the motive is to speak, as long as the other person understands what you mean to say , you r doing great. In the end what matters is whether you communicate or not. And for those who r afraid of speaking , always remember People who laugh at you now, will applaud you once you start. All the very best for your journey

According to my brother who have conversation with lots of other European people, even they are not so fluent in English. But still they talk English as much as needed. And in their countries they are not shamed to not speak in English. This only happens in countries with colonised minds. Especially in south asia. This have to change.

I'm really frustrated with the English pronunciation system. My mother tongue is Hindi so I read aloud all the letters written in the words. For English pronunciation you will have to phonetically respell it in order to see its pronunciation. I never give a damn about my accent. I just pronounce it naturally. I always focus on comprehension rather than accents. For me the purpose of language should be understanding. It's ok to pronounce words differently because we are not living in the USA or the UK. We have to understand English is not our mother tongue Learn it like a second language.

Thanks for bringing such topic. You are fabulous ❤️ Just a thing one of my teachers taught is ,in case of spellings and stuff we follow British English for example colour (in us English it's color) US feels like if that letter is not needed remove it .we follow British one bcoz they ruled in india nd English came from there they are English people and US modifies everything with time to time whereas we feel to keep it in its original form. It's great that India consider such value for the outside language but it's high time we focused in our way . To accept in are own accent nd make it convenient to our people rather than forcing some other accents to look more educated.

I agree with her, cause most people should be develop a good speaking skills rather learning an accent.
