This is very OLD SCHOOL , back in the day we called it 3 color printing with color separations...I learned printing this way and did color separations all day long, I’m not sure but there used to be a lot of tutorials on this you might check it out it might help. Thanks for posting Dina!

Risograph printing is very much like the separations of CMYK printing. If you know InDesign, you can print separations from the print dialogue box. The difference being, the Risograph has an extended color range, in addition to CMYK colors of traditional printing. You can check separations from InDesign by checking the output preview. Illustrator also has this feature. And lastly, Photoshop has this feature as well, the channel panel. Where black exists in a channel, that’s where the heaviest color is. When you finish your Photoshop document, you can save a copy and convert to CMYK. Spot channels are also an option, but the file will have to be saved in a special way for the print shop to read it. Or you can split the file by channels for output. It can be quite the adventure.

The Risograph has been around for a long time, I think it predates color laser and ink jet printers. I did some work for a company that had one. They were very pleased with getting a solid color print, like a dark blue without having to pay for 4 color copies or printing. It was a technology developed for specialized color before our current technology where 4 color printing was not an option. The Riso still exists for specialize printing. And knowing that you have to produce separations for printing is good knowledge. I had 12 years of print shop experience, where knowing separations was essential for the job. Some customers brought in color files that had to be output to b/w or b/+1 color, and they had to be corrected before the file could go to press. Those were the days, I'd like to get back into production work.

Hi Dina. Just found your channel thanks to my girlfriend who's been a fan for a while. From one artist to another, i have to say, love your work. Your watercolor drawings are one of the best i've ever seen on youtube, and i hope you will get the subscribers that your skill deserves, much more so than other art channels around here. Keep up the great work!

It's not difficult to understand really. This is how newspapers and everything in print is made only there the pallete is CMYK. You can do it with every color you like. Imagine each color as dots on the paper. The concentration of the dots gives you the color.if you have even concentration of blue and yellow dots in one place you get green. Vary the colors and the percentages 70%,40% of each color and you will understand. Doing it in PH is easier, only when I studied printmaking you had to take into account the drying of the colors in between, how long if any,the order you put them in... Even in WC, it is not the same if you put orange and then some green on top,or the other way around.
