You need one of those tubes of silicon or something to create a waterproof layer around the base. It also helps keep the base in place.
@EthanChlebowski3 жыл бұрын
There's a gasket underneath the plate cover that should keep it waterproof, but if I notice issues I'll get a sealant. I wanted to make it easy to remove since I'm only renting!
@EvanSamuels3 жыл бұрын
Ethan Chlebowski run a bead of silicone around the base to keep water from leaking under and causing the rust and grime issues you had on the old one. Silicone is super easy to remove when you need to replace the faucet again. You won’t regret it!
@uclatimsta3 жыл бұрын
@@EthanChlebowski That gasket generally speaking is trash and should not be trusted to keep water splashes from dripping down the main hole where the faucet stem is placed. Even just a periodic drip can cause the cabinets to warp or even worse develop mildew/mold. I'd suggest putting a sheet pan under there for the time being and check it after a large load of sink usage so see if you are getting any moisture dripping through. As mentioned by others a bead of silicone around the gasket will provide a permanent solution. It's really easy to remove with a putty knife if you have to change the faucet back when you move and will ensure not losing your deposit over cabinet replacements.

Missing one part that I've noticed in most faucet change videos like these and this one missed it but can be added later. Teflon tape. It's cheap. $1 - $2. Why need it? To wrap the threading before joining and it prevents the threads being connected from possible seizing over time plus it can also help too also for the possible of leaking from the threads when joining back to the old supply lines too. Seizing of the threads joining to the supply line depends if you have hard water that can overtime be harder to separate. If you have soft water. Not much worry on the threads but still possible leaks if not tighten right. Teflon tape.

a personal tip from me: nearly anything can be removed from non-cast iron pots and pans with pure sodium carbonate or another pure alkaline (any soluble hydroxide or carbonate should do). just put some powder in the pot, pan or baking sheet to cover the bottom, put a little bit of water in there and heat it for some time (like 30 mins or something). everything should come off easily then
@zuthalsoraniz67643 жыл бұрын
First is to clean as you go - if you have used something that you won't be using again during the cooking process (say, cutting board after you have done all your cutting), and there is some amount of downtime while something simmers or such, just use that time to clean up, it makes the amount of cleanup you have to do at once after eating a lot less. Also, clean things as soon as possible in general - food residues become a lot harder to clean up once they are dried in. And I find that for the majority of things, just running the pan under hot water is enough if it is not dried-in, or if that isn't enough then a light application of dish soap and elbow grease will do the trick. Though I also use some pretty good nonstick pans, so that certainly helps.

Most leases contain clauses prohibiting renovations/alterations but reasonable landlords and property managers will overlook your new faucet if you leave it when moving out -- as it is definitely an improvement over the previous faucet! You may want to simply notify the landlord and send pics/video and they will likely shrug it off. It's a capital improvement IMO!

Folks - this is a great video, and super helpful but DO NOT DO THIS IN A RENTAL. If you cause flooding and damage, you will be held responsible. Buy the faucet, ask your landlord to install it. When the landlord says no, request permission in writing. Don't be reckless.
@BadMoonRising922 ай бұрын
Just curious, but why would you wanna do this in a rental on someone else’s property?
@ChristoPatro2 ай бұрын
@@BadMoonRising92for practicality and aesthetics, the same as you would hang a painting or place a flower vase.
@BadMoonRising922 ай бұрын
@@ChristoPatro hanging a painting and replacing a faucet is not a direct comparison. Replacing and installing a faucet is a 1 for 1 swap for that something the owner/landlord may not even like, and they’re benefiting on you spending your money to make improvements on their rental. But You can drive a nail and hang a painting in a minute and just easily pop the nail right out
@hucz28 күн бұрын
A lot of misinformation here. First off, it is a fair comparison to make, when comparing a hung picture frame and replacing a kitchen sink faucet. In fact, replacing a sink faucet can more than likely be 100% reversed. Should you still communicate with your landlord first? Of course. Most probably won't even care, but a lot of what they decide on will be based on the relationship and trust you have established with them and how you go about asking. As for the guy who said driving a nail into a nail isn't as big of a deal as swapping a faucet out? He's wrong. Driving nails or drilling screws into walls wherever you please can be extremely risky and potentially very expensive. You have to know what's behind that wall first. It could be a wire, a water line, a vent, etc. And that could lead to costly damage or put someone at serious risk. You also have to fill those holes in and repair any damage you've done to the wall, otherwise your deposit could be held. You could argue drilling or hammering nails into your walls poses a much greater risk than replacing a faucet.
@EverettNewell28 күн бұрын
@@hucz you’re wrong. Any plumbing adjustments resulting in flood or water damage will be the liability of the tenant. Is your picture frame going to flood your ground floor? You must be kind of simple.
