The Debut B6 is my all time favorite speaker, and it’s magic was result of this guy knowing where to best spend his limited production budget. He paved the way for someone to get a taste of HiFi without breaking the bank. I appreciate you interviewing someone who literally broke the mold for great affordable speakers twice, first with Pioneer, then with Elac. Everyone at the low end has been copying Andrew’s bang for buck Debut effort for the last 6 years. Great interview with a living legend!

Totally agree about the original Debut. I had the b5, which is a true great and I thought was much better than the 5.2 where I think the might have been more directed shall we say about aesthetics.

I had a conversation with Andrew Jones at the Montreal show in 2017 when he introduced the affordable Elacs. I asked him if there were plans for upscale models and he told me yes. I guess he never had the opportunity to do really high end speakers with Elac, that he had with TAD. I hope he does that with Mo-Fi. Are they really going to do all components in house? Very few do that.

Awesome catch Randy. I actually picked up a pair of AJ designed Pioneer (SP- BS22-LR) bookshelf speakers for 30 or $40 at a 2nd hand store awhile ago. Thanks to you I also acquired a used pair of Sony SS-CS5's at a pawn shop for $70. I'm working towards an 11 channel Atmos system comprised of these plus my Acoustic Research HC6's (4 satellites & center). Fronts, center and sub all older Jamo's. Yes it's a jumbled mix but so far so good. Thanks for all the content & keep on rocking. P.S. ; the HC 6 satellites sound awesome for their size.

I like Andrew Jones designs. I have his Pioneer budget towers, his Uni-Fi towers AND his Adanté towers. They're all wonderful! In my room the Adante's F-61's supposed little treble peak near 10K isn't present, even when using a high-quality, calibrated measurement mic. The Anantés are crossed over to a swarm of four 12" sealed subs at 40 Hz that extend the bottom end down to a measured 18 Hz +/- 2 decibels with a 3000W DSP amp. Theoretically there's enough power on tap for the subs to reach 115 decibels, each however I rarely have driven the subs collectively above 90 decibels to prevent audible bass distortion from muddying up the Elac's pristine bass and midrange clarity. I cannot wait to see what Mr. Jones comes up with for MoFi!

Didn't Mofi already do an ls3/5a clone ? Or was that just a Mofi badge on Falcon's product ? Enjoyed the interview. Kind of short but I guess he doesn't have a great deal to say right now. I wonder where the speaker is being manufactured ( or did I miss him saying that - my wife came in and interrupted me with an emergency towel based query and I missed a bit ). Always nice to see the personable Mr Jones - the only speaker designer to have a hit record written about him.

I am not that familiar with Mofi but I recently realized that I own a Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs Original master recording on CD of Tommy by the who. I paid $ 40. for it and that was more than twenty years ago. I hope Andrew will be able to develop a line of Mofi speakers that are affordable.

Most of his Elac speakers are in the $2k range and below and he doesn't want to create parallel products with Elac. So his speakers will be in the $3k - $5k range, which is about medium price for audiophile speakers. It will go against comparatively price Focals and Goldenear speakers.

His price point for the new speaker will likely be beyond the intended scope of the CAM audience. Example of why this is so: if one wants to improve the sound of one’s $1,100 or $3,500 MoFi turntable, one can buy a MoFi turntable platter weight. Cost of said high tech device with no moving parts? $199.00. But wait, what if a $200 weight doesn’t provide you with enough fidelity in between the clicks and pops on your LPs? Stop worrying, Mobile Fdelity has a solution: they sell a $400 super heavy platter weight, filled with the oil of two vipers and one python, expanding the fidelity and frequency response beyond the hearing range of not only mortals, but 17 Norse gods as well.
I'm Shocked! Destroys Products 3X the Price... well not really
