bro when you said s is for software cause the hardware doesnt change thats wrong. they all had upgraded cpus while the outside stayed the same, even the iphone 5s add a hardware feature with fingerprint sensor.

@@ZazaNugget_the XS was one of the biggest if not the biggest hardware upgrade on an S iPhone, despite its almost identical looks with the X, the XS is what started the hardware we know nowadays it’s so true that it’s going to get even iOS 18 upgrades. The XS is so underrated.

they actually stood for speed, as more iphones came out, the speed of iphones weren’t dramatically significant so they stopped

I do wish they do use S as special version with updated chip and slight upgrades such as camera for same price like every half year of iPhone release while the normal ones will get some discount

I agree. I loved the 6S, greatest iPhone I ever had because I got great use out of it and didn’t really slow down. That iPhone aged great and had a future proof cpu.

To me, ‘S’ was just a brand name for an extension of the previous model with some new feature introduced to make it slightly better than the one before it. Similar to how Plusnet used to be called Force9. And how Starburst used to be called Opal Fruits

That’s exactly how it was and still is now instead of the “s” they have the SE which is a iPhone 7 with the new hardware sold for a little cheaper

when the S phones were around my family always used those. i was still young at the time but my first phone was like a hand me down iPhone 6s and it fared better longevity wise than the normal 6

I went from the 6s (one the best iPhones I had) to the 6 to the 7 to the 8 now having the XR and going to upgrade to the mini 12

the iPhone Xs was the fixed version of the rushed iPhone X which shipped with a couple of issues out of the box. I really like the gold colour of the iPhone Xs, i think the 13 was definitely a 12s but the physical design hasn't changed since the 12 so it seems like nothing has changed, personally i love the physical design of the 12-15 models especially holding the Pro models

The S models were more than just speed bumps. The iPhone 3G was essentially the original iPhone but with a 3G ability, the 3GS was a different phone altogether to the original iPhone and iPhone 3G. The iPhone 4 brought more speed plus Retina display and FaceTime camera, the 4s was the first dual core iPhone, plus 1080p camera, Siri, increased capacity and improved antenna. The 5 added an extra row of icons with a longer screen, while the 5s brought Touch ID, camera stabilisation and the first 64 bit processor to any mobile device. The iPhone 6 brought bigger displays and nfc, as well as improved connectivity and the plus models, while the 6s brought Force Touch and 4K cameras. This shows the s models were more than iterations on speed alone.

S is not for software. S is for second generation. For example, the iPhone 3GS is the second gen of iPhone 3G. But man- the new iPhones are just second generations, barely anything new. I mean over a few years there are some changes, but nah.

I always assumed the S, stood for "Super" considering it's portrayed as better version of the base model, e.g. iPhone 5 + iPhone 5 Super.
