as North African (Algerian) I don't really understand the position middle eastern countries are in, but I'm definitely glad that we don't have to make such decisions due to being far away from the conflict area. This vid really helped understand more the politics behind certain moves and although some of this moves go against public opinion, the decision makers are not to be blamed nor to be judged. But the same can't be said about morocco and I really wish if you can make a detailed video about their normalization deal.

Morocco has had ties with the Jewish people for 2,000 years and Jewish Moroccans used to make up 10% of the country's population. Morocco still has a Jewish community of about 3,000, the biggest in the Arab World, and about 1 million Israelis have Moroccan roots. Also, about 50-70,000 Israelis travel to Morocco each year. Combined with the US's recognition of Western Sahara as part of Morocco, it seems like Morocco's normalization with Israel is a no-brainer. There have always been ties between Morocco and Israel. Now they're just out in the open.

@@entertainme121 There weren't any open ties in the 70s and 80s between Israel and Morocco. I'm not sure what you mean by "clear oppression" but perhaps you're referring to the Palestinian suicide bombings in the early 2000s that targeted Israeli civilians indiscriminately in pizza parlours, wedding halls and city buses. Thousands of Israelis were killed and wounded, including, presumably, hundreds of Moroccan-Israelis since they make up about 10% of Israel's population. Given that the king of Morocco is the appointed protector of all Moroccans everywhere, regardless of faith or place of origin, I imagine that Morocco halted ties with Israel as a way of protesting the murder of Moroccan-Israelis by the Palestinians, since, in effect, all meaningful channels of communications with the Palestinians go through Israel.

Keep in mind, Saudi Arabia follows a very fundamentalist interpretation of Sunni Islam, Wahhabism. There are two features that stick out about this ideology. One is that impostures are seen as almost a greater affront to Islam than non-Muslim infidels. Al-Qaeda was somewhat pragmatic in this regard, see their ties with Iran. While ISIS was much more hardline. Additionally, it is theologically permitted to partner with an outsider against a greater threat. And I don't mean to demonize Islam or even Saudi Arabia for this, US sided with Stalin to defeat Hitler and Mao to defeat USSR. Israel possesses top notch military, weapons, and intelligence services. Not to mention lobby in US. A partnership would be mutually beneficial

Joshua ben nun, student of blessed moses, he married an Egyptian princess Batyah. Blessed Abraham was an Iraqi. I read in the holy book today that God smells good like the cedars of Lebanon. I don't think that's our government's intention - I think a small group of ultra wealthy people have an inordinate amount of influence over our government and our media. So, while I see some merit in your words, I think it's more nuanced. If we make blanket statements that our economy is based on war profiteering, aside from being wrong, it's not really solving any problems. How about putting some percentage of your energy into identifying the bad people who are hijacking the government and assisting the government in taking them down? I actually didn't start watching the video yet but I can say this. I have lived in UAE (specifically Dubai) almost all my life. This normalisation deal was definitely shocking. Cause only barely a decade back, my history and social studies' book from middle school were filled with propaganda about Zionism (and maybe even the Holocaust) or about how the Intifada was some Gandhian-style protest. It would be very difficult for an otherwise pro-Palestinian government to turn away than just Iran. Only a few months back, the UAE just relaxed what was once some very strict Islamic laws and since a year have been toying with this idea of religious and cultural tolerance. They invited the Pope (which as a Christian was pretty eventful I guess). They are making massive new temples, synagogues and churches. Since a few years, their outlook has changed. And unlike say a Saudi, the Emiratis are actually somewhat receptive to this. They plan to change themselves from an Islamic hub to a really global one and joining or appeasing the West becomes part of that. Israel then just becomes one of many goals that they wish to fulfill than some end-goal of sorts. In ways, its both to counter Iran, establish their power in the Gulf and to find an easier access to the US but its also to change their image and earn some money from the West esp. with the COVID pandemic almost ravaging Dubai's economy. This deal becomes almost a necessity than a luxury. The whole Palestinian-Israelis issue has drawn for so long that it has honestly made many in it weary and tired except for a certain few. I would like to think that the Arabs too want to accept that reality and approach practicality. The Israelis are too powerful to get rid off and being America's most important Middle East proxies impossible to defeat. Additionally, they are very lucrative and could open a plethora of opportunities esp. with the West and of course at least some normality in an otherwise war-torn Middle East. These are just my thoughts on this.

@@KnowMore5 well, the belt and road doesn't really "end" anywhere, since it is very loosely defined. It is meant to provide China with the raw materials it needs, while also allowing other countries to benefit from the trade, thus helping to finance the initiative. The "tracks for peace" also facilitates trade, mainly between the gulf (and perhaps India) and Europe, thus taking a bite out of any future belt and road activity in the region. If the US could somehow bribe Pakistan to join the side of the gulf states, the belt and road will be finished as a profitable enterprise. I have a feeling the Trump administration will try to do just that before leaving office.

West Bank Palestinians aren't losing land and aren't getting killed at checkpoints(unless they try running over or stabbing soldiers) that's something you just made up. Hamas does exist in the West bank and carries out many attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians, the only reason why there are no rockets flying from the WB- is because the IDF is there on the ground.
