The deal is, we already own the truck or making payments on a truck. Company drivers haven't done that yet and rates are down and freight is low. Not the best time to make a major purchase like a truck.

true but i would argue right now is the best time to purchase a truck since they are very cheap compared to a few years ago. If they wait for the rates to go back up and more freight floods the market, prices on all equipment will go up also. If you try to time the best time to get in, they will never pull the trigger. they will just freeze. I will say whether the market is good or bad, only those that manage their money the best will survive.

@thegoldentrucker I disagree on the truck cost rising. The main reason for the extreme high prices was covid and the companies weren't making trucks. Prices will always fluctuate but I don't see them getting that high again

I’ve been a company guy for about 5-6 years have no restrictions on my liscense, all the endorsements except bus, I haul flat bed and hazmat tankers, my and my girl have been saving up almost $4k every single month to PAY CASH for a used peterbilt with Cummins isx15 in it. I know trucking has a higher failure rate, but I have connections for direct shipper loads out of the gate for hazmat taker loads local so as soon as I get my truck and my authority we’re gonna hit the ground running. And with slightly less stress because I won’t have a truck payment. I want to be a fleet owner though, not an owner operator, I want to put a guy I I know in my truck. My job pays over a hundred thousand dollars a year and has excellent and cheap insurance, so why quit if I can own a fleet and maintain my day job? Idk I just feel like having a truck payed for in cash is going to give me the best chance of the company making it, I been contemplating buying a truck for 2-3 years now. I don’t care how much work it takes, I won’t let anything stop me from making it. Plus I’m mechanically inclined, I been working on the trucks for a couple years already at my company too, air leaks, wheel seals, brakes, I can already do all of that, I feel like I’m gonna do fine.

wow! you are def ahead of most people that want to be O/O / Fleet Owners. Most people don't even have a plan that thought out. All they think about is making more money, which is not bad but if that's as far they have thought about, matter of time before they fail. You are doing it the right way. You have a plan. Not rushing things and executing when you think the time is right for you, not when everyone else is telling you to. I know you will succeed just by knowing how well you have thought this through. Good luck!

It’s simple. Are the things owner operators are saying is true? If they’re true , then there u have it. They’re telling people how it is

I understand but the question is, if it's so bad, why would the owner operators put themselves in a position that is not financially worth it? Why not just go back to being a company driver?

I want to become a O/O but its hard to make the switch Im home daily company paid health ins for me and my family 6% match on 401k and 10 paid holidays and 2 wk paid vacation a yr. Here in PA making $33.50hr with OT after 45 hrs I dont see myself as an O/O for a while. But thats just my opinion.
