Recently, I went to see a movie. It was a new release... probably the 2nd day. The actor, actress, producers, director, and other supporting actors and actresses came and interacted with us. They asked us to enjoy the movie and if we like the movie, we should tell others. The film started 15 minutes late. When the film ended and I was coming out, I found that most of the audience have got a free ticket from some source and they are from a specific residential apartment where there are multiple 2 bhk or 3 bhk flats. They got the ticket from their promoter / builder who also owns a publicity company and that company is related to the producer of the movie. I was probably the only person who bought the ticket. Just imagine!!!!

I know this video will excite the "boycott bollywood" guys but reality is the amount of manipulation that can actually be done is not more than 10% because end of the day they also have to pay TAX based on the final figures. And trying to correlate between IMDB rating vs Box Office numbers does not work anywhere...there is good cinema & there is audience demand....even in hollywood most movies rated above 8 on IMDB do mediocre business compared to Marvel Movies which usually get rating of 6.

Maybe for many film but i own a 55 seat mini theatre 3 screen multiplex in my hometown and for jawaan every weekend show was housefull and almost 2 or 3 weekdays show was housefull... So we made good money from gadar and jawaan even for jawaan almost after 2 weeks we were having housefull shows on weekends

It all makes sense (however dishonest it is) but I wonder why Income Tax officers do not use these figures to verify the accuracy of income tax returns filed by these people who are involved in these inflated numbers. Theatre-owner (multiplex chain), if it reports income of 20 crore, it should be a line item in income tax. The same way, distributors and producers. @Nikita Thakur, Can you please provide an insight on what is happening from that angle?

But one thing you should consider that more inflation they will show....more tax they have to pay..and for overseas collection it's nearly 40% tax..so if any movie claims 100 cr overseas collection then it has to give 40-60 cr to government

First of all Producer can give as many collection as they can but Bollywood movie had different box office tracker like Boxoffice India , Pinvilla , cosmoscore and almost 80% collection come from multiplex which collection can easy be track . So they cannot manipulated collection more .

Very informative piece, same is being done over here in Pakistan our industry is very small so margins are less therefore producers try to lure potential financers by showing them inflated returns to make them bring money and currently most movies are being made by our Military' PR wing, these movies are made to look successful by inflating returns and mega publicity for example Legend of Maula Jatt was reportedly financed by financed by them it's biz feasibility was unnatural as it was made by 28 crore Rs which is unbelievably high budget for a Pakistani movie but it got over 100 crore returns which is more unbelievable people were not so excited as projected the technique was similar :Big real estate developers were arm twisted to buy whole shows all over the country certain movie theatres were coerced to screen with very high ticket rates even then the 100 crore is still a long mile.

There is an interesting news from south malayalam industry that they are making a Pan indian film in black&white. The first pan indian film in black and white. It is an horror thriller film releasing in early 2024. Film name is BRAMAYUGAM. This film produced by Ynot studios and Night shift studios who are the producers of Vikram Vedha film. I hope it will be a new experience for us..
