When I grow up in the 70s and 80s everybody had stuff that they bought which wasn't anywhere near this expense it would last for a long time. If you needed to get it fixed you could take it to the local repair shop and they would fix it for you at a small cost. And possibly with a second hand piece. This was effective back then and the waste was minimal. It would be great if we could go back to those days.Not only would we be helping the environment but it creates employed and keeps costs slow. Cost low because you don't throw anything out.

After converting my home into a large Macaw aviary, my need for a high performance vacuum began. Sadly I discovered nobody makes one. My entire home has slippery vinyl planking covered with Persian rugs. Then large sheets are placed over the rugs to collect all the poop, nut shells, food, and wood chips. I discovered that pistachio nut shells are wood chips are better reserved for a shop vac, not a high-end vacuum. After using a 14 gallon Ridgid shop vac from Home Depot inside our home it easily sucked up the nut shells and wood chips, but simply became too frustrating trying to drag it over Persian rugs, especially when the power cord kept getting stuck under the wheels and required continuous lifting the vacuum up to continue cleaning. I bought a Miele C3 canister vac, a Sebo D4 canister vac, and a Sebo X7, and a Sebo X8 upright vacuums. Since I have a large front room/dining room where two Macaws live, a large sunroom where 3 Macaws live, and a large basement where we all sleep, multiple vacuums are required. Of all the vacuums, the Miele C3 and the Sebo D4 canister vacs have adjustable height control, the Sebo X7 and X8 are automatic height adjustable. The Sebo D4 has the best suction, but the height adjustment on the Miele C3 makes vacuuming the pistachio shells and wood chips easier. Neither the Sebo X7 or X8 automatic height adjustment go high enough to suck up the pistachio shells or wood chips, so that means dragging these vacuums all over the house and using the wand with an extension to vacuum up these items. After spending nearly one year trying all of these vacuums to make my clean-up easy (not really possible), I decided to use the Ridgid shop vac with a 20' hose extension to suck up the pistachio shells and the wood chips, and then use the Miele C3 and Sebo D4 canister vacuums for deep cleaning. Both the Sebo X7 and X8 seem to work best in other parts of the house without Persian rugs. Sebo has the best customer service I have ever experienced with any company. My lesson in this vacuum search for perfection would probably have been more cost effective to buy two Sebo G5 commercial machines with manual height adjustment similar to the Miele C3, instead of the D4, X7, and X8 machines. The Miele C3 also performs better and with less trouble with higher elevation than any of the Sebo machines. I tried to schedule a consult with Josh seen in this video, because of his amazing knowledge in the realm of vacuums, but his staff said he was not available for consults. For me, vacuum cost is not the issue, performance in the realm of my specific need is the issue. Experimentation and observation always seem to be the pathway to success in any search for wisdom.
