Tomatoes, peppers, citrus and other fruit and vegetables can crack or split... we're going to tell you why and give you an option for fixing it!
We've been converting our suburban back yard to a food forest. We do our best to share what we learn about growing in Florida's conditions… heat, humidity, thunderstorms, hurricanes, poor soil (ok… sand), bugs, etc.
We're located near the east coast in north Florida (zone 9), but we strive to make our videos helpful to anyone trying to beat the heat, build hurricane resistant gardens and fight off everything that flies, jumps or crawls that wants to eat our food!
If you found this useful, please remember to give us a thumbs up and subscribe... that really helps new people find us. Thanks for choosing to spend your time with us!

I never knew that until I moved here, I'll try to follow your advice. Was that a little iguana 🦎 on your hand? They are cute when they are little. Thanks for sharing ❤️🌷

The watering tactic isn't guaranteed, but it definitely helps. The lizard is an anole... we named our garden (and channel) after them. We have a short video about them here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aNdloMWQpseUfXk.html Thanks for commenting! :)

This was a great, to-the-point video with an easy, comforting delivery. I am experiencing this now in Texas with 100+ degree temps. I have been on a regular watering schedule for all my plants since May, but my first two tomatoes this week were split. This has just not been a good year for gardening for a lot of people. Will it help to harvest the tomato a little early - like when they are almost red instead of completely ripe? Thanks for sharing.

Harvesting early is better than not at all. Tomatoes will continue to town as long as they've already started to turn slightly red, but they may not be as flavorful. We would probably pull half a bit early to make sure we got something and leave half on the vine to see if we could get some good ones. It's a risk... you just have to decide which is the best option for you.
