Your insight into the city is truly unparalleled. I was born and raised here and while I dismiss most food bloggers/influencers, you are among the few who capture a holistic and nuanced perspective of the WHOLE city. As much as I admire Bourdain, “his” NYC felt somewhat limited or borrowed if outside the comfort zone. You showcase all facets and stories of this diverse city. Thank you for creating such meaningful and quality content.

That's wonderful that there are places you can eat at that helps the Ukrainians fight the war. I have Jewish ancestry on my dad's side and the town my great grandpa was from Tchortoria was part of the soviet union when he was born there in the 1880s, but became part of Ukraine in the 1990s. My great grandparents, great uncle and great aunt immigrated to Montreal in 1913 and my grandpa was born in Montreal in 1914. I think they immigrated to escape the first world war. I love how there is a blue and yellow cookie to support Ukraine. I also love their sign in the window: Make Borscht Not War. So cool!

As someone of Polish heritage it's amazing to see how similar the cuisine is or even shared between the 2 countries, the pierogi or Ukrainian borscht for example which my dad has made many times. The schnitzel too is a popular dinner for Poles too. Need to come back to NYC again and visit these restaurants for sure.

Hey! I wandered into that last place on my recent trip to New York City because I was seeing a movie at the Angelika a little later. I thought it was nice to eat at a Ukrainian place, but I had no idea I was also contributing to such a worthy cause! It was a good dinner: Weinerschnitzel and egg noddles. Fun to see you there now too. It's one of the few places I ate during my week in the big apple that I hadn't had recommended by either your channel or another.

Another excellent video by Jon. The quality and variety of his video’s are superb. He shows you things and area’s of NYC that you wouldn’t normally consider. Definitely the best YouTubber who highlights’s what’s going on in New York. You can trust what he says and it’s done in nice way. His travel videos are also superb like the recent California one. I didn’t know New York had such a big Ukrainian community and it’s great to see so many places doing there best to help that country and it’s people as it is terrible what is going on their at the moment. Jon’s videos always make you feel just that little bit better after watching them. New York is my favourite city to visit and I can’t wait to return so having someone like Jon always updating you on certain things to see and what’s is going on is great for me. This video is a case in point.

I have a mixed Slavic ancestry, including Ukrainian. I also have relatives in Ukraine. The food you tried looks really good. Borscht is my favorite soup, and that looks great. Vareneky is really good when it's fried. It's great comfort food, for sure. It's also a great cause to support. Edmonton, has the largest Ukrainian population in Canada, followed by Winnipeg. The Prairie provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, have the largest Ukrainian population, outside of Ukraine. Thanks for your support for the people in Ukraine, and the country itself. Cheers! 🙏🇺🇦

Jon, I'm the one who was born and raised in NYC/Brooklyn - moved to southern Calif. decades ago. I saw ur recent video when u and ur wife were visiting Ventura County - I live 15 minutes south. Now, ur in the lower east side - where I was born - visiting Ukrainian Restaurants. My grandparents were from Austria and Russia - and my mother used to prepare all those delicious Jewish foods. Blintzes, pierogis, chulent, borscht - with sour cream. My mouth was watering while u and Ben were eating. Eating great food is an EXPERIENCE!!!!! Standing for Ukrainia. Thank You for ur great videos - allowing the world to view small businesses - especially mom & pop restaurants. America was built by people opening small businesses.

Jon, nicely done as always. One thing I really like about your videos is you always leave the audience wanting more, not to mention supporting a very noble cause. Just curious, when you say largest Ukrainian community does that factor in all the Soviet Jews that escaped the old Soviet Union. Of course it's not important in the grand scheme of things. Keep up the good work, and btw my grandmother was a Ukrainian Jewish immigrant from Tzarist Russia in the early part of the 20th century. Keep up the good work, and send my best to the family.

You should return to Brighton Beach, Brklyn and interview the local Russian community there on their thoughts of the Putin-Ukraine war.

Always Loved Ukrainian people. The bars in the east village had Ukrainian second generation bartenders and they were the kindest sweetest people The best and real polish and Ukrainian owned bars are in the east village In fact the best dive bar in all of nyc is a polish bar on Avenue A 1st Ave to Ave A 6th street to St marks My favorite blocks in all of Nyc even if you include Astoria I feel bad for Ukraine getting caught up as a pawn in Vlad’s war on NATO. It unfortunately won’t end well for the Ukrainian people. I pray for Ukraine and I pray for world peace and I pray for a safe crime free New York.🙏🏻🙏🏻

I am an overseas Chinese and I stand on Ukraine side. Thanks for supporting Ukraine businesses as Russia invades Ukraine, making the country poor.
