I'm a scuba diver. If you dive below about 10m without extra air, your lungs squash enough and you cease to be buoyant. IOW if Molly goes that deep in the ocean, she will carry on sinking unless she (or her divers) actively swim her back up. In northern waters (e.g. Ireland) the visibility can be 3m or less. Her divers have to dive with her - once you lose sight of your buddy that's it. Every dive could be fatal - especially in the ocean. Skill and bravery mean most aren't.

@lardo6664 ай бұрын
@@RED-zp2wy In the ocean they do have scuba divers on the surface as well as free divers. Free divers move faster (no heavy kit) - and start down as every diver hits the water. The scubas turn to watch the entry, and go head under. No need to waste air unless there's a problem. Apart from air usage - loitering underwater isn't safe - you can't see a diver who's off track until they hit you. Only thing worse than water at 70kph is a steel dive tank (or aluminium in warmer places)
@lardo6664 ай бұрын
@@Lilzzzzzzz15 If you're snorkelling in warm water you feel decreasing buoyancy well before you go negative buoyant. Just kick for the surface and you're fine. Only brave lunatics who hit the water at speed have the risk of this happening really quickly - and that's why the support divers start downwards on every dive entry - to be close enough to act should it be needed.

Nothing else you can do but cope, when you risk your life constantly over ... "sports", "job that puts food on the plate" and "fun/competition/dopamine/adrenaline" are probably terms that might apply. Aka any not directly (though partially indirectly) "survival" reasons. It somewhat defies reason, to put your life on the line this way, yet, in reality creatures are doing all sorts of silly stuff and die doing so :'D It's not unnatural. LOL All living things be living and using all functions enabling that in the best "quality" possible (even true with "negative" things like anxiety, which is the "safety" function on overdrive and alerting disproportionally). May she always be well and kept safe by her team and also, giving meaning to team members is also a thing :P

This makes a lot of sense. What you divers do is indeed extreme, and safety is critical. To also have other teammates around also makes a lot of sense. On a side note, I want to thank you for your words of inspiration in regards to the New Years video. While it's nothing big, I wrote music for a scene in a movie. Your words have helped me get past my self-doubt. I have a learning disability, and it takes me longer to do new things, but, like you point out, some dives take you longer, and THAT'S OKAY.

It's not as scary because it's water down there, not a street or cars, etc. Our brains can tell us how hard the water is, but why go there mentally? My non-scientific brain tells me it's water like a swimming pool or a lake on a very hot day, and water is the most wonderful thing ever... I am so afraid of heights that if a cameraperson films the patio cement next to the pool Molly is diving into, I get those nerve pains from the video that we height-phobic people get... But if it's water down there, I'm fine. I used to jump from towers as a kid, so that's where I learned to love the water at the end of a jump. It was nothing like what Molly does tho--those somersaults that far up in the air? I'm awed by her!

Surface diving 4 meters in a pool and then pulling up an unconscious person while unequipped-no rescue tube, can, or other equipment-is seriously not easy. Swimming them to the edge of the pool, getting them on deck, and giving them those two lifesaving breaths before assessing vitals is also nerve-wracking. Generally, two people are needed to pull someone out of a pool, and the best way is with a backboard to slide them up. That’s with crystal clear water, a known depth, and usually, you can find equipment on a wall somewhere. If you’re in a natural body of water, it’s murky and can be very deep, even close to the shoreline. As some have mentioned, the pressure from sinking past a certain point will rid an unconscious body of any air in their lungs, making them descend even faster. The scuba divers are doing a great job, helping to show where the surface is and following the divers bodies as they hit the water. This ensures they are physically close by and can easily pick up on any signs of unconsciousness, confusion, or drowning.

In most competitive diving there are lifeguards too. If a diver flubbed & hit flat or apparently injured - there is typically someone jumping in to 'rescue'. & in Ocean = might come to surface, but less likely. fit, knocked air out of lungs & plunging down pushes rest of air out - not holding breath when knocked out. So like Molly said = sinking not floating...
