Why are so many Sacramento Valley cockroaches popping up in houses?
Cockroaches are native to the Sacramento Valley, and they used to live in fields and wetlands but have recently found a literal pipeline to the residential areas.

Most of these cockroaches are NOT native to our area. The fact that these “professionals” failed to identify most of them as Turkestan Cockroaches is sad. These were brought in by the US military back in the 70s and they have been spreading ever since. American and Oriental roaches were the ones shown in the pictures when the entomologist was speaking. They make up only a small amount of the increased roach. I worked for Clark Pest for 5 years as one of the best technicians in the area.

To say American and Oriental cockroaches make up only a small portions tell me you have no idea what you're taking about. Those are (hands down) the two most common species of cockroaches found in our area.

@@cali2468 Wrong, having worked in Pest control for 25 years, the Turkistan roach is the newest and now the most prevalent exterior roach in the valley.

@@robertlivingston5175 No, it is not. I live in Sacramento and have several properties in and around. The American and Oriental are the most common. I travel the area got work and I mostly see American Cockroaches on the ground. They can fly for short distances when it gets hot. We have Oriental Cockroaches near my property. They prefer the outdoors.

These water roaches aren't hardy like regular house roaches. They die easy

@@sitprettybaby8188 They reproduce even easier. That's the problem, the turkestan cockroach, is alien to our area. It lives outside like an Oriental roach, but, reproduces inside like a German roach. When I was working in Pest control and came across these Turkistan roaches, we were not familiar with this invasive species. Had to do my own investigation to determine what we were dealing with. I determined, these Turkistan roaches, were the worst cockroach we had encountered! Bedbugs are worse, but you have to bring those into your home. Turk roaches will come from the storm drains in the streets.

Regarding, Cockroaches... Try using the $1.25 "Ant Powder " from the DOLLAR TREE to kill cockroaches. Just sprinkle the powder around your kitchen, under the sink, under your stove and refrigerator, take out the bottom drawer in your kitchen counter and sprinkle some Ant Powder inside. Also sprinkle it outside around your trash cans or wherever else you can see cockroaches. It will take about 2 or 3 days and all of the Cockroaches will be gone, without a trace. (No dead cockroaches)

I’ve never thought of using the ant powder. I own a small used appliance store and we use “Roach away.” It’s also a powder that kills the roaches when they walk over it. Works better than any spray.

@@sKid-ch8wq diatomaceous earth is and it works, it takes a little longer and you are not supposed to kill what you see, they walk thru the powder and take it back to the nest. And they dry up. If you rent i would contact the landlord for pest control services too. And if you don't rent, maybe can afford. It makes a huge difference. My friends yard was so bad with roaches and they must of been what they are talking about cause i had never seen them that big, and really didn't think that's what they were.

That literally happened to us last night. Thank God my husband is tall enough to reach the ceiling. I’m in Florida I am used to Palmetto bugs and other creatures but this is getting insane. The poison is not working because they’re spraying it in the atmosphere along with fertilizer.

that happend to me the other night i live in midtown sacranto i worked for the city sacramento doing street work when i would lift off a manhole cover there would be hundreds of them they are all over down town sacramento.

These are not your common household roaches these are water roaches they're bigger and they seek out water every time I leave a wet wash rag in my garage in my laundry pile there's gonna be 2 water roaches on it either laying eggs or suck in the water out. I killed him every time they're disgusting

Chop up Jalapeno pepper in your garbage disposal ....wash them through the sewer ....problem solved ....do it once a week ....thank me later !

No. The outbreak is due to city not spraying the sewer system during the pandemic allowing them to breed out of control.

My property is clean and my backyard is infested under my back patio. If I put out a pool I'm invaded under the pools it's bad this year. One or 2 a month come up from the drains. Spraying like crazy but there are gazillions...

In two separate apartment complexes I dealt with cockroach infestations along with bed bugs and scabies. It was in a lower status area because I am a low status individual don't make much. The problem with these infestations is after they treat it once or twice then the rest of the treatments are up to the tenants to pay for because in their mind they assume you're dirty and don't clean up just because you're a lower class citizen.... I will be making my way out of those areas soon enough. However I feel for those who have to deal with it after what I had to deal with

Call the state trust me call your county and state. The complex is subject to fines if not taken care of. That’s not a healthy living condition they will tell you and will proceed to give the complex so many days to have it treated until there completely gone. If not they will be paying heavy fines plus still have to treat

Yes, they get paid incredible prizes and rewards for harming innocent people. They even try to pose as though they live in the Sierra. They drive around in their SUVs and trucks with their blood-stained hands.

I once saw a sales rep from a professional extermination company drop something from a small bag on the curve in front of a house. He shook it like ash from the bag. Since then, I have often wondered how the epidemic increase occured not long after that.

Diatomaceous Earth was the best way I got rid of them coming from a hole in the wall from our kitchen. I absolutely hate those roaches. I also duct tape any spaces in the kitchen, hahaha it seems to have worked also.

there's a house in my street that has chickens in their front yard. i didn't know they can be a good deterrence to pest as well. most of the households along the streets have cats free to roam so no rodents problems either.

Except chickens go to bed at night and that’s when the roaches come out. So they do not cross paths. Trust me, I have 10 chickens and thousands of cockroaches!

Try to keep your yard clean and don't leave food around. County of Sacramento: Everyone must start composting their food July 1. Get ready for a rat, mouse, cockroach invasion to hit the City, not to mention the increased load at the sewer plant when people start to garbage dispose their food scraps. Thanks Sacramento for being the Nanny City.

The non picked up garbage left by homeless camps and not picked up. So let's not act dumb just surprised there aren't rats like in NY also. Send them to the Gov and Mayors area. Then they might do something about cleaning the non so Golden State.

This is a bologna story!! This was never an issue until the water meters were installed! They are trying to tell you you are dirty? No way! Blame the pet industry? Give me a break! Someone wants to pocket the money for the pesticides in the higher up.
