There's a few things that might make the iRacing GTP's a bit trickier than people think - mainly (I'm pretty sure) the IRL GTP's use the regeneration of the hybrid as a pseudo ABS that works within a small brake pressure range. Obviously that is a lovely assistance. But ultimately, the GTP's are +/- 100kg heavier LMP2, you can't use the power advantage in the wet as much, nor fully use aero gains. Check a few videos of GTP's IRL, they are a right handful in the wet. Even with the fully fleshed out IRL systems. The LMP2's are an extremely well developed package as a class. It's no surprise that the GTP's struggle on iRacing. At Suzuka, such a highly grip dependant circuit, the difference is exaggerated. 100kg is a LOT. IRL the LMP2 challenges the GTP's in harsh conditions. Suzuka is a worst case scenario. It's not a skill issue as such, but some considerations should be made for whats being driven. You would honestly be surprised at how much grip there is on slicks on a damp track. I just pitted on lap 13, about 5 laps earlier than everyone, and I gained a lot of time. Obviously it's sketchy in places (T1 and Degners) but people can swap way earlier than they'd think.

At this point I feel like something is off with the tire model on the GTPs. I drove GT3s, SF Lights and GTPs all at Spa while testing, and the grip level isn't even close by comparison. The downhill (turns 9-12) is a nightmare. It's like driving on ice, and I live in Canada, I know what driving on ice is like!

there's an onboard of a GTP @ le mans. it pretty much looks the same as in-game. Like driving on ice and it's going to kill you any minute. Seems to be quite on point.

​@macmagic21 yep the lmp2 at lemons were alot quicker last year than the gtps, think its the weight and the fact they have slightly less downforce that makes them so deadly

@@Thatlocomango_392 The weight actually helps with grip in wet weather as the extra force helps move water faster. GTPs should be quicker in low speed corners because so, but LMP2s are faster literally everywhere in iRacing and not just by a little bit. There are high speed sections in the rain where LMP2s are still flat out while GTPs are having to slow down and even downshift. The speed difference at some tracks is like LMP2 vs GTE. In the rain, two equal drivers in Hypercar and LMP2 perform similarly so it ultimately comes down to who's more talented in the wet weather. A few LMP2s were faster last year in the rain but not all of them. Same story for the 2022 6 Hours of Spa. One LMP2 was faster than all the Hypercars, but the Hypercars were still faster than all the other LMP2s, and the lone LMP2 never lost view of the Hypercars. But in iRacing, a 1k LMP2 driver will outpace a 5k+ GTP driver which definitely shouldn't be the case. As well, as the track dries, LMP2s become blisteringly quicker than the GTPs, like 5 seconds quicker. Should be the opposite, as the track dries, GTPs should gain more. Going back to Spa 2022, the second the rain stopped and track began drying, the Hypercars caught back up to the lone LMP2. Hypercars were able to pit earlier for dries than the LMP2s as well. In iRacing, GTPs don't become quicker than LMP2s until it's time for drys. LMP2s can be quicker but not that quicker. GTPs are more of a handful in the wet but not absolutely undrivable. There's definitely an issue with the rain tires.

It's a bit weird in heavy rain. Driving using the same line, it seems GTPs may spin even when it's completely off throttle while P2s can do half throttle or more. But when it dries up a little bit it feels okay actually

A lot of people forget that the LMDh cars are developed from the various existing LMP2 chassis. The biggest difference I see during this race is under braking and cornering, where weight and grip are paramount. With the extra weight and similar tires, the wet pace is really not that surprising.

There has to be something up with the GTP rain tires. It's not that LMP2s are just as fast as GTPs but that GTPs are undrivable. In wet weather, the higher weight of GTPs should help them more in low speed corners where that weight helps the tires exert more force onto the track. LMP2s have more downforce which should help them more in high speed corners. But LMP2s are absolutely planted in the rain while GTPs are on the verge of killing you at every moment.

Almost every time I see the highlight reels of GTP crashing... 60% of the time it's pinching the exit, 15% cold tires and 5% just shit luck... and 20 just snap wtf lol. Best guess is the torque curve of the LMP2 is quite a bit flatter, so easier to drive. Between the Hybrid and the petrol drive it's not exactly linear power to anticipate. LMDH / GTP are hard enough to drive at the limit, add the variability in grip and lowering the threshold of oh s..

VRS wet set is too stiff, damping is also not optimal. Their wet set is basically undrivable, that snap oversteer entering the S's you had is bad dampening settings. Soften the car some. For some reason LMPs in iRacing are always set too stiff

I wonder if the Grip calculations are too low ffor GTP, or too high for LMP2. Maybe it has too do with the tire model, like the patern in the tires being too shalllow for the GTPs or something. getting passed by LMP2s is hilarious Edit: Even with slightly better rain line choices, the leaders where still lapping slower than the LMP2s so something is probably bugged

If the track is dry enough for slicks there shouldn’t be any spray at all except when going over puddles. It looks very goofy.

I did an IMSA race in full wet conditions with the Acura and VRS Setup. After last week of testing… key from my point of view is to steer more than needed in all slow and medium corners to keep temps in to the front tyres. Also important are the break tempratures. If the breaks are cold you will lock a wheel and this will result in a crash 🤣 and don’t touch curbs or white lines 🤣

VRS wet sets are too stiff, is in my opinion a car set up issue, not a tire model issue. Get the suspension more compliant and the car transferring weight more efficiently for the wet and 1:57s in GTP is possible.

It’s to the point that I switched to the VRS series and won my first VRS race. Will most stay away from GTP and IMSA unless something is changed even if it’s not realistic.

Based on the few times LMP2 and GTP have been out on the track in the rain IRL... yes, but it's hard to know for sure without getting someone whose actually driven a GTP in the wet IRL to test it.

@@AceBlake Good thing a Simracer can judge this. In Spa last year LMP2s lead a majority of the race cause of the rain. Its just a skill issue.

@JSDRacingTeam This is from an article about the 6h of Spa in WEC 2022. Robin Frijns in the WRT Oreca LMP2 showed a strong performance in the second third of the race. The Belgian took the lead in the rain and even outpaced the hypercars. In wet conditions, the reduced power of the LMP2 (around 100 kW compared to the hypercars) does not have as much of an effect as in the dry, as there is simply less full throttle. At times Frijns was around two seconds faster than the rest of the field. But he also took some risks, but as a full professional he was able to judge the situations well.

In my opinion it’s un realistic. Even with a small amount of brake. They just snap. there is something not quite right. Also unluckily at the end. It was a great race.

Just want to say you have nothing to justify even if you did it for the £50 who is there to say that's a bad move. This is your job at the end of the day and if the person is offering to pay £50 to see a race that's his choice, there are so many content creators that do unthinkable things for even less.
