There was some green stuff growing on the inside of my water bottle. A biofilm of algae and bacteria. In this video I will have a look on how it looks like under the microscope.

Even I have seen them growing a week ago in my watering mug... It was a greenish slime growth of algae... and I definitely did some microscopy ! thank you for sharing your experience... God bless..

Actually algae like growing more in plastic bottles (PET) because they are microscopically more porous than glass bottles and they can bind better due to the presence of carbon in the plastic. While in glass bottles they wond bind to the glass to develop biofilms. If you are bottling tap water it will come with nutrients and algae plus other microorganisms not easly visible as algae. Compared to glass, plastic offers several advantages for cultivating algae. It can diffuse light more effectively, leading to a more even distribution throughout the culture, maximizing photosynthesis and promoting better growth. Additionally, certain plastics like polycarbonate can block harmful UV radiation better than glass, protecting the algae from UV damage. Plastic's surface characteristics can also be beneficial for algal growth. While slightly rougher than glass, this texture provides better attachment points for algae cells, aiding initial colonization and biofilm formation. Furthermore, the surface properties of some plastics might promote better adhesion for specific algae species compared to the typically smooth, water-loving (hydrophilic) surface of glass. Finally, plastic's superior insulating properties help maintain more stable temperatures, crucial for optimal algal growth. Believe it or not some plastics may also leach small amounts of compounds that can act as micronutrients or growth stimulants for algae, although this effect is usually minimal. A more significant advantage is that some plastics are semi-permeable to gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide, allowing for better gas exchange within the culture. This prevents CO2 buildup and ensures sufficient oxygen supply for both respiration and photosynthesis of the algae.

I just bought a Hayear 51mp digital camera microscope with 0.5x C mount 5x-120x lens to solder with. I don't have a proper microscope, just going to project it on my 46" flat screen TV because I'm almost blind. Going to be a month or so before it gets here. Wondering what else I can use it for, because I'm not really interested in biology (not since high school). Reading bills. Counterfiting? Forging signatures? Reading super tiny print? Checking welds and for hairline cracks? Not sure yet. It's one expensive piece of kit I felt I had to do microsurgery on my quad copter. I'm thinking of loaning out to friends just to find out what "they" looked at with it. I hope it works out for me, because it was an incredibly hard thing to shop for. None of the specs are consistent between microscopes (I was trying to find the lowest possible magnification level lens). and some are sold with attachments for a microscope while others are sold with a stand alone lens, and there's nothing clear to a beginner which is which. Stands seem too short, with too small of a base; lighting seems inadequate, and magnification levels in general are for SMD work which is way too high for what I need it for... reading the amounts on bills, reading mail, reading paper work, or even reading a book... or doing macro level soldering. I wish more microscope reviewers would of focuses on the lowest magnification levels possible, as that's what I would be using... to take in as much of a wide field of view as possible. Too many microscope reviews go straight to SMD work which is way to high for people with visibility problems shopping for a microscope

I actually cleaned out a Brita Filtering Pitcher. After a few days, there was a small film of some random growth. I wonder if filtered water can ever be 'TOO CLEAN?' I actually ran the water through an amazon fasics water filtering pitcher first. Strange.

mybe the water contain some carbonate ion, and the bottle got some light, also small nutrient (brownalgaemostlysilica+phosporus) for their growth

A similar biofilm was growing inside my glass water bottle, I probably drank a month from it without noticing. Is this bad?

What about Nitrogen, how do they get that?
@Microbehunter
@Microbehunter Жыл бұрын
Nitrates can be found in tap water. Too high of a concentration is not good, but low amounts are possible.

covid-19 is a virus. You can't typically see something that small with an optical microscope.

You would need a high powered electron microscope to see covid19. Which almost nobody has access to.

@@williepie Who told you that is the ONLY way to see a virus? How do we know that it is a virus if no US University has videos of the virus? Do they have microscopic videos of the flu pathogen?
