When does the game take place? Sub machine guns are super cheap and easy to make. Today's prices are artificially inflated by the NFA.

Lol you can get a semi auto shotgun for 2-300$, a used mini 14 you can get for around 800$ got mine for 6 in nearly new condition with a folding stock. I mean you can get a new PSA ar15 for 400$, glocks have always been 4-500. The only unrealistic pricing is the sub machine gun. Even back in those days would be 5-10k, couple years back could buy a mac 11 for about 7-8k now it's around 12-15k. The scar is about 3k today. Just the guns would be semi auto. But the Mac 11 price I gave is for a full auto!

Honestly, considering the time this game came out it’s not that far off. You could just used glocks for under 300, Russian AKs for 500-600, Mosins for 100-150. We didn’t know how good we had it.

There is a theory that explains why these guns are cheap: It is because when the infection arrives and when the CEDA loses control of the infection, the weapons become more affordable for those who survived and needed something to defend themselves against the infected.

@@megakillerx Have you ever seen how gun store robberies go down? I mean, there are literally gun owners running the shops. Also, this game takes place in the south, where people are a lot more close-knit, so if Whitaker knows the locals well, there's a lot less that will go on(not to mention the man has an rpg up in his safehouse.

While the idea is cool, I'm pretty sure it's just that the game takes place in the late 2000's and most things didn't cost as much so the price of the guns reflect that. Guns were cheaper in 2009 than they are in 2023

@@Doc903 - nah, guns were genuinely cheap in the late 2000’s. I doubt Whitaker would lower the prices to “help the others” when he would’ve shot the four dead if it wasn’t for him needing the cola from the store. I don’t think CEDA knew anything about guns either.

The game has 2 tiers of weapon. It basically tells you that the SMGs and pump action shotguns are worth less than assault rifles and semi auto shotguns.

The hunting rifle makes sense to me. I believe it's based off of a Ruger mini-14 (could be wrong it's been a while since I played l4d) Ruger is known for making affordable and highly reliable guns

Left 4 dead 2 takes place in October 2009. And it also takes place in the Deep South (Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi) are all the places you go to in the game. So I guess it can be cheaper since there’s so much guns in the south and since it’s 2009.

Shotguns are naturally cheap. My first ever gun was a Mossberg Maverick 88 for about $230. Still the firearm I recommend for first time gun owners.

Well, they're sold cheap because the Military encouraged normal civilians to bear arms to defend themselves from the infected. That's why the basic Tier 1 weapons and the Hunting Rifle are sold for cheap prices.

Most of these seem plausible aside from the fact they sell full auto weaponry In the first place. The full auto weapons are way more expensive than the civilian weapons and that makes total sense.

The SCAR-16 has had its usual MSP slashed in half. Typically it goes for 4K$. I’d say the Glocks and Benelli’s are priced fairly; however, Mini-14’s are a bit more expensive.

These games were launched in 2008 with the first game and 2009 the second game came out. During a recession.. they were cheaper even before 2007.

The smgs are cheap because these ones are Israeli uzis. They are made of stamped steel and easy to produce. The most unrealistic prices are the glocks and the AK47s.
