Thanks for checking out our reaction to Tool Lateralus cover done by the School of Rock students. Lateralus is a cool song with all the vibes. This song seems to be about things that are beyond the veil, if you know what I mean. We love stuff like this. It's a topic that isn't too common in songs that we've come across, so it's nice to see it for once.

When Brad said something along the lines of, "People tell me I think too much so I'm not going to say anything," I got a bit triggered at the audience. The only reason I've been watching the videos on this channel is because I like hearing the analysis of the hosts. Is art not subjective? The purpose of this "reaction" genre is to experience the art through the lens of others. That way, we have an opportunity to engage with the work in a new way and re-experience awe in something that has become familiar to us. You can't achieve that by asking the lens not to communicate what it sees. What is the purpose? To the audience: If you're only here to convert people into fans of your favorite band--but you aren't interested in how they engage with it or what they think--you're a zealot. I hope you can learn to totally ignore the zombies in the comments, Brad. Have fun and engage with the music however you like.

Fibonacci sequence, I think, is an invitation to interpret it how an individual sees fit. And it WILL fit. The sequence is everything. Most everything, for example, the human face has the fibonacci sequence . From the tip of our nose spiraling outward to meet, perfectly with our lips, eyes and ears and even beyond our being. People who have downsyndrome. Their faces don't meet with the fibonacci sequence. For whatever reason, there are some things that may not add up regarding fibonacci. Maybe im wrong, but i am forever learning about this sequence, only because it IS everywhere I see. And i will be often learning as much as I humanly can until my body dies.

It's interesting to see how Brad is initially trying to connect intellectually, with the lyrics--the way he's reading everything and not even wearing his headphones over his ears (because he's more focused on reading and thinking), while Lex is fully int he grove. I was in the kitchen listening to this. And after she said that I was like oh no did I just put the baby in the fridge, okay half of the stories true PS The fridge is actually out in the garage. I think she hit the nail on the head on the second part of the song it could be a representation of an inner body experience wanting to get out kind of like an avocado in a fridge wanting out oh, speaking of avocados why did I just put a diaper on one. I really need to stop analyzing you guys analyzing Tool songs. Did I just eat an avocado out of a diaper and not put salt on it first? Where is my head I swear if it wasn't attached to my shoulders it would be in the fridge with the baby right now

I think she was referring to the fact that the avocado literally becomes a part of you after you eat it ... it doesn’t stay an avocado at all it becomes nutrients and absorbs into your body - becoming apart of you, meaning it’s not an avocado anymore it’s you and the avocado can no longer be considered an avocado. Because its chemical makeup has completely differentiated from that of its original form.

Bro, Brad, you must give your input! It makes for a more 'in depth' reaction. Even if some people say your off base. It's mostly about interpretation. Especially if your listening to it for the first time. All of Tool's songs make you feel different in every way. You can't go wrong with any of Tool's songs. You have to experience Tool from early on, to truly see their metamorphosis. But next? I would go with one off of their latest album, for us fans of your channel. I would suggest the title song, Fear Inoculum. It's weird, it's like they almost predicted the future with this song.

One of Maynard's most beautiful, emotional lines "I embrace my desire to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow..." I have always thought it was beautifully expressive in its simplicity. I lost my boyfriend of 7 years almost 2 years ago. I understand the emotion behind his words in SUCH a way now...there is a reason he chose to use the expression "weep like a widow". The intensity of losing your life partner, your other half is humbling, all consuming. Full of profound love and acceptance yet...i just can't explain it. Sometimes the intensity is so much that all you can do is step aside and weep. It is bewildering. It is a POWERFUL emotion and the fact that Maynard references it so succinctly while never having experienced it, not even experiencing the loss of his mother yet speaks VOLUMES about his grasp on understanding the human condition and the bigger spiritual picture. I imagine that to truly understand and swing on the spiral would be an overwhelming emotional overload. Again...can't explain it. But I get it.

The song is about pushing art forward, following the spiral of the Fibonacci sequence that you can observe in nature as well as art. The goal is to push the envelope, become, create, experience or persue, something that could be defined as divine despite human limitations all while staying in the moment.

14:34 Here's my tack on being the bigger person: It's usually their own problem and largely because they're stuck in some layer of ego which is projecting their mirror onto you. That's trauma and programming, so you gotta kinda feel sorry for them while at the same time either choosing to not give a crap about the negative energy coming at you, or sending it some love and walking away. That low vibe smack will flop to the ground and the person still has to deal with it the way they're meant to: on their own or by asking for a hand, because the only real way to heal is face to face with yourself, and honestly.

This song is built around the feminichi sequence . Lex has it Quote: "The syllables Maynard sings in the first verse follow the first six numbers in the pattern, ascending and descending in the sequence 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3. "Black (1), then (1), white are (2), all I see (3), in my infancy (5). Red and yellow then came to be (8), reaching out to me (5). Lets me see (3)." In the next verse, Maynard begins with the seventh number of the Fibonacci sequence (13), implying a missing verse in between. He descends back down with the following pattern; 13-8-5-3. "As below so above and beyond I imagine (13). Drawn beyond the lines of reason (8). Push the envelope (5). Watch it bend (3)." The second verse adds the missing line to complete the sequence; "There is (2), so (1), much (1), more that (2), beckons me (3), to look through to these (5), infinite possibilities (8)." 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3-2-1-1-2-3-5-8-13-8-5-3.

The black and white in my opinion is referring to the duality that is found in every thing. We can’t have good without bad etc. the black/white checkerboard or the black/white ying yang usually refer to the duality of this realm

I wish I knew why everyone overanalyzes the lyrics to this song. The it's pretty straight forward. It's a journey through life. It starts out in infancy. "Black then white are all I see". Infants don't see in color right away. Then "reds and yellows came to be, let's me see". Infinite possibilities come next cause you haven't lived yet. Then he transitions into living in the moment and appreciating life. Then moving into not being afraid of what comes next after we die. This whole album has heavy undercurrents of spirituality. Ride the spiral to the end, you may just go where no one's been. So we don't really know what lies beyond but there's this feeling that life doesn't end in death.

Perfect line for you to hear as a little criticism. "Over thinking, over analyzing..." Feel it, let it flow, quit trying to figure out every single line. It's about experiencing moments and not trying break them down to understand every syllable. If you allow it to happen it opens the door for wonderful, unexpected things to happen.

one more thing, I know I've said way too much already , but he is right, this is the way creation at least our reality was set up. it is just a question of having gratitude for that chicken that gave its life for your nourishment. gratitude in every part of life. for breathing, health, protection feeling safe, being able to use your 5 senses , family friends, their health, your able to eat, cloth your self, you have clean water, to bath, to brush your teeth shelter, the ability to hear these songs then speak about them and the ability to feel , the ability to love, and feel connected to one another . gratitude is everything. and I am thankful for your videos. your perspective on music I have loved for a very long time . thank you both for the content you share with us. it is inspiring and honest and articulated very well.

Tool has always been one of my go to’s when I take a psychedelic, for legitimately over 20 years, I remember so many occasions where Lateralus and Parabola would just happen to hit right when I was at the peak, these would be 3 plus tabs or 5 gram doses, not exactly a light dose, it’s hard to call them heroic doses but pushing into that realm at that point, every time I hear Lateralus or Parabola it makes me emotional, especially at the breakdown of Lateralus, it’s not in a negative way, something profoundly beautiful, when you don’t fight it, you just let yourself be taken, making your peace and letting go, it is something I really cannot explain in words, it makes me so incredibly sad that so many people will never get to have that experience, it is truly magical, in every sense of the word, you can see sound and hear colors.

The way Lex will just say something that sounds absurd at first and then molds it into this awesome insight is just fantastic. Such as, "I think it's about melting." I've heard you do this a bunch of times now. It's no fluke. You have a special gift for it. My favorite one was about Art always having something in the emptiness. Brilliant!
