why are we SELLING our CABRI G2

I get questions all the time asking why we are selling our Cabri G2. The truth is that we are the Canadian dealer for the Cabri and so all of our helicopters will always be for sale. New or used we will always have something in stock. From the moment a new aircraft comes into our hanger it will go up for sale and the price will continue to drop based on the flight hours on it.
We want to see the Cabri G2 take over the flight training market and replace the Bell 47, the R22, the Enstrom, and the R44. We feel that everyone deserves to be training on a safe and modern helicopter like this.
My name is Mischa Gelb and I own BC Helicopters with my wife Amy and my brother Sancho. I love taking the opportunity to bring you along to discover the life and adventures of a helicopter pilot.

Glad to hear you are keeping them. I'm 6'9 and gave up my dream as a helicopter pilot due to the increased cost of training in a larger aircraft and lack of available starter jobs out of school. Thanks to the introduction of the G2 I can pursue my dream at a more affordable price point! Keep up the great work!

Agree 100% How far has most other industries advanced including passenger heavies in the last few years and yet the general aviation industry is very slow to respond to change. Cabri seems that it is going to be a leader that the others are going to have to follow and try and catch up.

Good to hear you guys are pushing the Cabri G2 in Canada. Have been an engineer on the G2 since its launch in South Africa. Have also recovered two crashed G2's and can confidently say its the safest heli I have ever maintained. Well done.

Really interesting video! I trained in an R44 mainly because I can only afford to hour build with passengers and it didn't seem much use learning in a 2-seater and then having to do a conversion straight away. It's a lovely machine but I do feel like I am missing out on "future-proofing" myself (for want of a better term) by not having proper tech in the cockpit. Anyway, the only reason I really wanted to comment was to say your backdrop is insane, so jealous you can just drop off on top of a mountain to film a video in the snow!

Besides the seats, I'd like to hear an explanation of exactly what the innovations are on the Cabri. Asking that seriously. Maybe next time you have one down for maintenance, walk through the things you feel are innovative about the G2. Off the top of my head I can think of : 1) Carbon fiber monocoque body. That's probably the biggest differentiator vs others in in the small helicopter market. Makes it look pretty too. 2) Fenestron tail rotor. Quieter, safer on the ground, is it an improvement in tail rotor authority? Does it require more or less power to spin a fenstron at 5k rpm vs a traditional rotor more slowly? More efficient in forward flight I imagine? 3) Rotor head -- 3 bladed, but they say "soft in plane", what does that mean? 4) Plasma and magneto ignition -- The engine is an 0360 (same as many other small piston heli, but is the plasma ignition a feature from lycoming?) 5) The auto-carb heat. That is something that will probably save lives and is an advantage over an R22. Not needed though if you have a fuel injected engine, so is that an innovation that covers a deficiency of an older design? 6) The electronic instrument cluster looks very nice. 7) The auto-calculation of available power as a percentage-- that's probably really handy and reduces pilot workload. I wonder if it makes for a slightly reduced understanding of the reasons for power reductions in engines at altitude? Probably a practical and worthwhile improvement though. What else?
@PilotYellow
@PilotYellow 6 жыл бұрын
You have mentioned a lot of them. Those are some big ones. I will do videos going through these different innovations. Also the elastomeric bearings on the rotor head which means to maintenance, no grease, and much longer life. The design of attaching the aircraft to the skids removing the need for oleo dampers which reduces the risk for ground resonance. None life limited components such as the rotor blades and with a design to last potentially up to 15,000 hours (Time will tell). The EPM display allows for things like digitally displaying if you have an engine fire right across your entire display. Temperature or pressure gauges light up in yellow or red if there is an accedence. That makes the pilot more acutely aware of his limits. A storage compartment to allow for extra survival gear and clothes. Lightning strike protection Governor I'm sure there are more that I'm not thinking of at the moment.

I think it's good that he's telling it how it is. As a prospective helicopter student I also want to train on a modern aircraft (heli) w/the latest technology & materials & design if it can help me to train faster & easier. He is giving his opinions from his experience as a flight instructor & knowledge of various helicopters, even if they are negative at least we know what they are. If I am going to spend so much money on flight training I don't want to use a clunker of a helicopter , I want to train on advanced & modern aircraft. And he provides that.

The Cabri to me felt very similar to a turbine engine with very little lag in power. Extremely agile and smooth in the air I loved every second of flying this machine. Way better than the r22 as far as learning from a beginner standpoint very forgiving where the r22 bites.. hard.. It is a ship that you want to fly lower to the ground I find it just seems more right shooting through canals at 150ft.

Love how candid you are about this. Makes sense, and with Robinson saying their aircraft definitely aren't for training/new pilots and at nearly twice the cost, meh. For Schweitzer, perhaps listening to this will get them to upgrade their cockpit., and try a few things with the power plant or rotor system. As for Bell, not even an option at the price point. Internally they are a terrible company. As always, love your channel!

Just flew a 22 last night,...beta even. Had an awesome flight over the city! In fifteen years of flying the 22 I've never felt "not safe" in it! The Cabri looks nice, but all the modern bells and whistles aren't worth the higher price (glass cockpits don't impress me). The R44 Cadet is nice. The Enstrom 280 is nice. The Schweizer is,...ok (its perfectly designed for training, lets leave it at that) but they're all just too damn expensive for the average Joe! The R22 is quick, nimble, and a hell of a lot of fun to fly, not to mention perfectly safe, and so far the best bang for your buck! 😗

I hope it becomes the mainstay in the United States for Students. I did a discovery flight in the R-22 and hated nearly every second. Why are schools allowed to use the R-22 when the inventor said it should never be used to train students? Other issue, i'm not sure how ppl get jobs as helicopter pilots anymore without going Warrant Officer in the Army. It seems unless you have $250,000+ to sit around a burn time forget about getting a real paying job.

Great Video and I do appreciate the info, and it is stated this is NOT a sales pitch, just a reason why the sale the Cabri As a novice hoping to learn to fly soon, the more I read about some trainers, the more scared I get about wanting to learn. Don't do this in a R-22, or don't do that in a switzer, Haven't heard anyting bad about the Cabri and wish there was on locally I could train on/in. Instead I shall take my life in hand and trust the R-22 will not blow up on me! just sayin folks :D

Thank you for all your very interesting and educational videos. I have a question about the Cabri G2 application beyond just using them as a training helicopter. I live in Nicaragua and have at times rented R44’s and Bell 206’s for work related trips (56, 84, and 114 nm to replace 4, 6.5, and 9 hr round trips by car). I’ve often dreamed of buying a helicopter (which I have unofficially learned to handle and hope to one day get my pilot’s license), and wonder if the Cabri G2 would be a good option or should it just be relegated to be used for training. This is a hot country so air turbulence is often an issue in the afternoon so heavier planes tend to feel more stable. Operating costs are also important here since fuel is expensive here... Avgas $6/gallon, and import and sales taxes typically add 45% to any parts purchased. Thank you for your videos once again and for your advice. Carl Ahlers
@PilotYellow
@PilotYellow 6 жыл бұрын
Carl Ahlers hey Carl, this would be fantastic for what you are talking about. It flies around 85kts. Has a 4.5 hour fuel tank. Is also certified to run on 91 octane car gas if that’s cheaper for you. Because of the three blades rotor system it’s stable and safe in turbulence. It would be just the think for you.

I started training in Enstroms and due to school issues finished in Schweizers. While I totally understand your disappointment with the Enstrom TH-180 trainer, and I also 100% agree that Cabri has done something WAY more modern, I have to say that flying an Enstrom preps you for your transition to heavier turbines way better than a Schweizer, so if the Cabri has a similarly light feel to the Schweizer I think I would pick the Enstrom for training all day long. But then again, 1,000s of folks flying helicopters for a living started on R22s so maybe it doesn't make any difference. Do I want a Cabri? Hell yes! But I would like to be able to fly to 7,000 foot Flagstaff in the summer so give me a turbocharged Enstrom please.

Luck ... where preparation meets opportunity. Congrats on your situation. That little Cabri is going to put the hurt on Robinson as far as two seat trainers go. Haters can pound sand, no one respects a coward, speak your mind. look at the new Bell 505, all i can think is ... why ? I like the MD stuff. Some of the new larger Bell stuff is nice, but your right, still no innovation. Its 2018 last time i checked. Get it together

I love the Cabri, but unaffordable in South Africa, I'm training on a R22, it is less forgiving, but will hopefully teach me more, and my skills will advance accordingly. would love to graduate to the Cabri down the line. Re sales technique pros and cons below - I have sales experience, and am happy to compare products, but try never talk another product down, but rather show what is good about competitive products, and then articulate what is better about my product. In general, re aviation, specifically helicopters, feels to me the US is doing what they have always done because the US market is loyal and big enough to sustain. but it the is the EU and beyond who are innovating, and innovation is important.

Only thing that sucks about a Cabri is the lack of jobs for people with less than 50,000hrs Robinson time...I love the Cabri. Robinson needs to disappear and start letting people who train in something else get the chance at introductory jobs. After all I don't see the point in getting a license/rating if it won't allow you the chance to start using it. The Cabri is an awesome helicopter and it deserves to make Robinson a thing of the past, keep up the good work!

But i think it would be very interesting if You where able to do a series where we follow Mischa as a mechanic. I really like to become a heli mechanic and such a series would be super - to see all sorts of service on a helicopter like engine, gearbox, main- and tailrotor and maybe also how you do tracking of blades and stuff like that. I love the Cabri -- it's a beautiful helicopter. But, what I can afford is a "1960s tractor". A nice, safe, flying tractor can take me and two other people and perform beautifully in the 4500' - 10,000 foot elevation range of my area. And, with my extra cash, I can put some pretty avionics inside and pretend I'm in a big boy chopper. If the choice was between an R22 and a Cabri, the Cabri wins hands down, but I'm making different choices.

no matter what people say or do these days.......... There will always be a dipshit who has to comment on it in a negative way. Even if the person is a great guy and seems to be always positive.................... There are always dipshits who find something to complain about. In my opinion it would be best if the dipshit would just crawl back under the rock it came from. Because, who gives a shit..................... Look at Ebay and look at other sites where one can sell shit............................ You can spend loads of time on there complaining about how people are putting others down........... Btw, when will you complain about important stuff? Stuff like invasion of countries because of this perpetual war on terror? Or stuff like people talking about red buttons. Trump. Yong Un. The Pope. The Russians. And we already have had 2 false alarms in Hawaï and Japan...............................Red buttons is the talk of the day these days. Might be more important than focussing on someone elses selling technique. Perhaps you should focus some more on the selling technique of those criminals who sell us cars which break down after a short while, because of cheap shit. NO quality stuff. Or the cheap stuff you can buy in the stores these days which breaks down just after the waranty has expired. Perhaps that is worth the time to complain about. O wait, sorry, i forgot. We as people can only worry about eachother. Once we have to deal with a big company we cant find the words nor the courage to actually do anything about it. Right? Right. Dipshit.
