My take on why women arent heard enough: I personally think that this, too goes back to power dynamics. As a woman myself, I've experienced at times, condescending or patronizing responses to an opinion or question I may have to put forth. I feel the reason why is that the opinion and thoughts of men, for the longest time, have been taken as 'sensible' or more 'logical' as opposed to the more 'emotional' or 'unreasonable' opinion of women. The mindset that women shouldn't have something to say about certain things for instance country politics, may also be why they arent heard enough (partly the reason why once upon a time, voting for women was though of as a ridiculous idea). Somewhere, that bias still holds, despite the fact that we have progressed significantly. Not only men but even other women at times may think less of their own gender because of continuously internalized sexism, a product of the society we live in. Most women have been through a phase of wanting to be different than 'other girls' because of the image fed to us that girls are vain, insensible and so not taken seriously. Therefore they would demean their own gender to be taken seriously (internalized sexism is an extremely interesting topic here!) P.S: Anyways, loved the podcast, conversations like these will hopefully change the world for the better! 👍🏼

the woman who are loudest are the ones who are the most privileged, they're usually the aunties sitting at home and not doing enough for themselves and their society. on the other hand the women who are working are tired of being everything their in laws and kids want, its not easy being a working mother and have a successful career and be a good mother... the mothers have become defensive and why defending themselves become harsh, even if the in laws help the working mothers, they still expect them to be perfect house wives and mothers

I am living in a hostel in Islamabad where I am doing a part-time job and completing my bachelor's degree. This January I had to move to a new room in the same hostel. The three other boys in this room had just arrived from their rural areas in and around Punjab and for them, Islamabad was just a place where they were expecting girls to allow them to fondle and flirt with them. The lack of consent in Bollywood films is so prevalent in their minds because of their exposure to such movies from a tender age. Maybe because as a toddler, they saw that scene from 3 idiots when the whole college was laughing at rape jokes. For many of these teenagers, consent isn't worth a penny and they love to reenact how their female class fellows react when these perverts misbehave or talk dirty with them. Someone has to do something to stop them. SMH.

I sometimes sincerely pray that men like you should be subjected to the same environmental constraints and social responsibilities that us girls are subjected to ... I think for you making someone uncomfortable by following them around is cool and makes you feel more ‘manly’ but it’s quite difficult for a girl who has to protect herself, save her name to turn around to the likes of you and say no thank you I hope you learn to respect boundaries and if she can say, no thank you , you can also seek permission before following her around !!!!!

Earning lakhs without giving anything just because you’re instagram-couple and influencers, how easy it is for you to talk about those women who have been suffering on daily basis, who needs to be vocal about their rights, and here we are tagged as “ aggressive”.. being aggressive is good, being aggressive is the only way to get our rights in this entitled society filled with people like you.

I liked whatever you both said there! But there are a lot more logical & psychological reasons to why women are so aggressive of this age. After generations of trauma, abuse, gaslighting & what not, a woman always feel insecure, unsafe & uncomfortable in a society like this - she feels betrayed by her ancestors, feels cursed & every woman has felt this once in her life that life could have been better if only she was a boy. :) Great podcast again! Loved it!

Very thought provoking conversation! Glad we could have perspectives for both genders. As to why women aren't heard enough, I believe that's because of the common idea that perpetuates saying that women are more emotional which is linked to lacking rationality. So whenever a women comes up with an idea or an opinion, she's probably expected to be coming from a less realistic, a dreamy world where she probably didn't weigh the pros and cons of her idea. And even if she did, her theories aren't reliable because as men, you've known and seen the world better. The cherry on top is that narrative put forth by the religious scholars declaring women Naaqis ul Aqal. So there's that.

Simplest solution for post marriage issues is to Normalize pre marriage counselling sessions by a neutral person/ professional that maps an entire framework in front of the potential partners that covers What's best for making a marriage everlasting and ever cherishing. If anything goes off track from that specific framework, their marriage would end up ugly. Then consensus manga jaye k whether both agree to follow this framework or not. If not then they both may part ways and if yes then koi legal restriction laga di jaye k dono mai se koi bhi us framework ko follow na krne se pehle 100 baar soche.

Even after being a boy I agree with the girl, as in homes the mothers have to shout because they are not given enough power, like children fear father and respect them the most, as they are considered heads of home, whereas mothers are not taken seriously, as they don't have much authority when compared to fathers🙄🙂

I think that in discussing gender issues in modern days we ignore the role of biological and genetic leanings towards certain behaviors in genders eg. masculinity is not just the extract of society teaching toughness to the individual but thousands of years of gene pooling that made males the optimum instrument of security for their families while the same has happened with females in terms of tranquility and compassion which has been necessary in child rearing etc. according to the most primitive roles that have been part of human civilization.Alot of clash in modern day seems to be because the genetic predispositions aquired over a long span have lost their meaning with fast changing gender roles in recent times.Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Hearing each others opinion with respect and finding a common ground will lead to resolution of issues. With changing times the expectations of society are not changing as they should have, the yester time's gender roles are unachievable to 100% for each of them thus creating a feeling of just being not enough. This is creating a sense of tension btw two genders. Let respect and compassion prevail in order to move forward. Peace.

Psychology of human nature vs. what our elder women complain usually!!! 1) number one complain: agar us wqt mjhe ghr walou ki (father/husband) to mn aj yahan hoti ye achieve kr chuki hoti ..... 2) always listening at home: ko tmhara Bhai larka hay wo krskta hay larkyan esi nh hoti. 3) kaam or ghr chalany k mamly to somehow hold is in hands of mother's. But when there is something they want to do for themselves (asking for men, husband or brother's support for this)..... everyone make them feel k tmhy Iski Kya zrurat hayyyyy tm ghr chlao

Tbh, Humna was right. Cause every human have emotions and it is important to let them out for your mental heath. And its so true that if one person patiently doing something which distrub him or her and one time he or she become angry for that his or her all credit of patience lost in seconds and i believe its not the mistake of a person who he or she is angry on, cause he or she didn't know that . So if some thing is disturbing you directly talk. That why communication and listening to extract solution is solution of many problem. By the way, great podcast.

It was a very nice discussion and Muzammil really tried his best not trying to pick the side of " Men's camp". One thing hamna said was true that girls are mostly talked down by her family/other women to be more obidient and present to their husbands. I would like to add that the reason mostly quoted to the young women inorder to practice such behavior is to rule the house in the long run. So you sacrifice in the short run and rule the house in the long run. Which somehow increases the communication and understanding between two genders. One more thing i would humbly ask is what are your views on the gap between the two genders. Are they too opposite to each other or they've been mold to be alienating eachother's thoughts experiences and interests. For example we generally witness man of all the social classes talking about things like politics, sports, current affairs, tech etc and women about fashion, gossips and people, not only in our culture but worldwide. So, is it the reality or if women get empowered they'll touch those boundaries too.

Muzami Bhai! It is quite simple topic that you guys discussed about an hour. Islam gives us the solution of everything & every situation. Whenever we are worried about these situations, we have to learn the relation of Muhammad SAW with Hazrat Ayesha RA and his other wives as well. He SAW always took advices from his wives RA. He always respected his wives. Islam has entitled named Rabbait- ul- Bait means The Queen of The House. So, she must be treated as 👑.

Getting the 'answer' (yes, I need help ; no, I don't) from a stranger till there can be a responsibilty/gesture of help (as a socially responsible guy who wants to help someone particularly a girl who seems to be in trouble) Also yes, equality concept is fine but u can't make a society without kindness, morals or values. Out of kindness we offer help to people. Probably 1 in 1000 men out of kindness/responsibility would actually stop by a girl with 'clear intention' to help

the natural way for homo sapiens to organize themselves is a patriarchal dominance hierarchy, not matriarchal. Patriarchy is evolutionarily adaptive, not a social construct. Some species organize themselves into matriarchy (whales, bonobos etc) some have patriarchy. We should focus on Science (evolutionary biology) not so much on pseudoscience (gender studies) in this case.

@@sadafshahzad8520 Yes Sadaf, some groups will inherently suffer, think of it statistically - but our species will prosper when the majority of us follow hierarchies that are synergistic with evolutionary biology. What's different now? We have social media, and everything comes to your feed, and you intrinsically point out whatever is bad. I'm not saying there wasn't shit before, but we've managed to enter the most 'just' part of our time on our planet. Go read Steven Pinker's book (I believe its the better angles of our nature). Ask your grandparents if they'd like to live in Pakistan now vs. 70 years ago. We have collectively made progress! It takes thousands of years to come up with systems that are just and work on a large scale in society (think democracy, rule of law etc.). Trust me, I live in North America where we have a single motherhood pandemic, boys are becoming more and more incompetent (less active, more into video games and shit) which is why we have a 'achay rishtay hi nahin miltay' pandemic as well. Think long and hard about the collective wisdom we have managed to procure in our society (it didn't just spring out of a textbook) and don't just tear it down with surface level arguments. Now, if you are part of a group and you suffer horribly, given you have seriously considered why you do so and have no other way other than exiting that hierarchy - LEAVE. But don't blame the game, learn how to play it.

@@hamzarashid2385 humans are not animals. We can do better and we should. The progress that is killing our planet is not wisdom. That's why even scientists are going back to older ways of life. I'm an organic chemist. The elderly don't prefer this time at all. Heck even I miss the time when I was a kid. Bottles weren't plastic. Groceries weren't bought in polythene bags. Traffic was pretty low. Utilities were so much cheaper. More people had jobs. Food was not so contaminated. The system has never worked for the majority. We shouldn't have lost good things to gain other good things. We were careless. The majority is suffering but the ones who get the worst of it are barely surviving. Democracy has collapsed in the USA. So much for a system built on years of wisdom. Every place and every problem requires a custom solution/system. That's why representation matters and so does working with the people who will be consuming the products of that system. We cannot truly progress if we don't walk together. Older and even current systems are failing because they were built on the law of the jungle. You will see how different animal species have their own special systems. Funny how you're talking about collective wisdom we're apparently using right now when historians have proven that many older societies were smarter and more efficient than us. So much knowledge has been lost because what truly mattered wasn't preserved. Learning from history is important. We are not and will never be wild animals. The people you think are weak and don't matter in the bigger picture have more to offer to the world than the powerful.

It's really good to learn about different perspectives and it makes me very happy to see people sharing experiences to find common ground and build bridges to work towards solutions. I was a bit frustrated when the host didn't understand the guest's suggestion not to approach a woman going about her way. If I'm not wrong, the host mentioned that they have live in the US for sometime? That surprises me because it's commonly known that caring men in that region often escort women from a comfortable distance if they sense a threat to her safety without ever approaching her directly. A good tip they share is to move fast to step ahead of her if you happen to be walking/ driving closely. However, this is only for men who really want to invest in a random person's safety without them asking for it. It would be wise to simply ignore their presence until you actually see them being stalked or attacked. I would have liked you guys to explore the concept of men and women having power over certain household affairs more. In particular, I would like to see how the consequences differ on the receiving end based on gender. For instance, mothers and elder sisters actively match make for their sons/ brothers but what if the man disagrees with their choices and sticks to his own? Switch the genders at the receiving end to see how standing up against the authority leads to different consequences due to gender. Thank you.

This is the topic from which every person is suffering...as muzamil bhai said that one guy wants to help any stranger girl so basically there is no need to help her unless she didnot demand...bc no one knows the intensions of other at first sight rather good or bad ...only need to improve society thought (as they have about women )so that everygirl can be protective out of comfort zone too....and women r aggressive bc..the equality is not given by the society ( there is the long list )

One more thing that we need to be concerned about here is, its somehow not about letting us being us. People, society no matter saas, husband, ammi, abbu, we always have to have their consent in doing anything. The question is whats wrong with doing just what WE want to do and we're happy doing that particular thing. Whether its a decision to study, job or doing business. The main problem is that we need to have consent of the society to do something WE want to do, and that is why the anger wala factor is involved.

The point which hamna mentioned_being aggressive after 4-5 irritating attempts of others_is also not a rational choice..we need to raise our voice at the very first attempt of individual who's saying or doing something which bothers us..if we do so the point might not come when we need to be aggressive (which obviously occurs when we get frustrated by repeated attempts of unwanted behaviour of others that we tried to ignore or not pay much attention to at the very beginning). Ppl first check our threshold and then attack.

I'm specifically watching you and ma'am's podcasts specially for relationship things and society and all that stuff. Due to watching these many things I came to know that I don't know before and many things are cleared but still, there are many things that are to be discussed but not all the things are discussed openly as there are many complex things as well. Overall, I love your podcasts and will try to watch them all before you make a new one. And yes, I have subscribed and bell icon bhi zor SE dabaya hua hai

Jab Allah ne mard aor aurat ko mukhtalif banaya hai, dono k huqooq aor faraiz alag alag hain, dono ki zimedariyan alag alag hain, dono k darjat alag alag hain, dono ka muqam alag alag hai, to phir mujhy samajh nahi ati k hum log dono ko barabar karnay par kyon tulay huay hain, ye kabhi barabar nahi ho saktay kyon k inko aisa design hi nahi kiya gaya hain, dono ki apni apni ehmiyat hai muashray main, dono ka apna apna muqam hai jo Allah ne ata' kiya hai, dono ko apni apni zimedariyan hain... jis din mard aor aurat ye baat samajh gaye us din ye masla hal ho jayga ... If we accept and follow the instruction manual given by our Creator, we'll have more peace and harmony !

. Genders should be equal. However, some complications here were about relationships equality (mother, father, sis, bro, etc) I think these are evolving and quite often matter on the spectrum of societal evolution one falls on, So it's very hard to do justice to this particular part. I really appreciate you take up such important and difficult topics.

Allah hamari sab behnoon ko khush rakhe or acha hamsafar naseeb kre. Allah apke masail hull kre.

Humna as I am understanding is the opposite. U r responding to him that he means women are heard... but he is saying if they would stop repeating the 1 thing multiple times and take action they would be better heard. I used to tell my son the same thing: if u really like to be heard, make sure what ever u r asking, u really mean to go through with it. U see a man walking in a grocery area going directly for what they want, whereas the women generally stop at many more shops just to check it out. Here in the USA many of the divorces happen simply because "he doesn't hear me, he doesn't understand me, he doesn't respect me, ...etc. when u dig deep, many are actually reverse She came from a family of 3 older brothers pampered by them all the time. She gets married to a man who is just starting to build his career. He move across country to give her peace from his family! Still bored. He explains his building career and she want to go shopping. Now wither one could have done this but this is whereas vs female sphycology come in in this particular situation. He simply wants to get rid of this argument so he can go back to his files. And him just thinking that, enfuriates her even more. So even though this could be don3 by either one, she could give a resolution to the problem since she started it (talking about equality). She could designate a day a week for dinner at home no phone calls. And 1 day in the week for window or real shopping with him alone or kids when rheu come along. And she needs to remind him everything he "forgets". U get to keep the marriage, gets what she wanted, gets to brag to her friends and he gets to go to work!!😀

A very good explanation of the topic. But a thing which is often experienced is while working together on a project or something men are always taken as they don't have any constraints realistically boys/ men also have constraints. On the otherhand its assumed that without catering the constraints of women the work cannot proceed. I know there are alot of problems but this is also a culture that men are assumed to be capable of everything which is not true

All comes down to how good listening skills you have from the beginning of a relationship ... and stay open to new ideas and self criticism on equal level ...and MOAT IMPORTANT if both of them are appreciating of their respective contributions, it really play a huge role in a more successful family tie...

Your definition of Patriarchy is flawed folks. The guy asserting himself in the situation where his family try to abuse his wife, also asserting himself where his in laws try to abuse, protecting what needs protection and setting boundaries, that guy is practicing Patriarchy. Not the timid guy who dont anything and can't stand for his relations and himself.

I feel you man throughout the questions that where you're coming from. Lots of respect to both the participants!. I don't know should I say this or not. But being a male, after getting these gender equality discussions and the weird behavior from the females towards the "Suljhy howe larky" gets me so so frustrated and depressed that I'm now unable to attend the other gender and which again puts me in the zone of "Sarrial" and "disrespectful towards women".
