Hard drugs consumption increased since weed was legalized in Canada. Now the government is starting to give out hard drugs to addicts to lower death caused by illegal drugs in couple provinces. In addition, hard drugs are now legal for personal consumption. Yes, it is a gateway.

yes cannabis can be quite dangerous but there was actually quite a bit misinformatoion in this video. for example NOBODY is spraying cannabis with thc, thats not a thing, however people do spray more and more spice/synthetic cannabinoids on weed which can be MUCH MORE dangerous than thc (and this is a problem created by prohibition). Also why is it so bad that popular people use weed? i mean like 99% of all celebrities drink alcohol and nobody cares either

@@Dark_Dial_Watches have you actually read the science? Cannabis isn’t all wonderland medicine. It can make people addicted and even stunt brain growth in adolescence. In some cases it can „cause“ psychosis if the individual already had a predisposition. It is way less harmful then alcohol, but definitely not harmless. If it is used in from time to time and not frequently, then cannabis most likely wont do anything bad. And cannabis does have its fair uses in medicine. But it still has some dangers associated to it especially in adolescence, and i hate how many people pretend its a completely safe drug. And the highest danger from cannabis is actually cannabis treated with synthetic cannabinoids and less so but still a big factor cannabis with extremely high levels of thc and close to no cbd. All results of the black market. Which is a reason why i‘m for legalizion.

I usually like what Talking Point is presenting but this episode just reeks of government oversight. If they're so up on banning drugs, what about tobacco? Did they even interview people who take it recreationally but are not addicted to it? And what about medical usage of it?

This is round two of the story on Undercover Asia. This time it is not even balanced out by the Thai perspectives which were shown previously. Credit where credit is due though, if we read between the lines of what is presented here on Talking Point, it isn't all bad; but they definitely framed it as such. For example, the point about THC being 'the evil guy' was mentioned, the fact that people can research online on the potential benefits and harms of cannabis, and also the point about cannabis being a gateway drug more because of the environment of people that deal with it, rather than the plant's potential use and misuse as a drug. Still disappointed though...

Prohibition is clearly old thinking and doesn’t work. Based on this video that thinking it’s still Singapore’s go to. There have been studies in the USA that post legalisation, youth consumption goes down. The allure of cannabis goes down. Can you please provide some medical references regarding the link to cannabis (gateway) and harder drugs. You reference it in the video. It’s the least you could do.

which one is easier to get addicted to ? which one has a higher rate of dependency? what are people's purposes for consuming alcohol or weed? There are people who drink to get drunk or high feeling or to 'escape from your problems' but there are also people who do it to appreciate the flavour, pairing with food and the overall experience. But why do people do weed? The same negatives as people who do alcohol? And the benefits? There have only been very few proven, credible benefits of cannabis, most often being used for pain control e.g. morphine, see where it's going? There have been reports of 'many' other benefits but there are also reports that contradict them. But if cannabis is used as a tightly, regulated and controlled healthcare drug (if there are no less harmful alternatives) for people who really need them, then I'm all for it.

The part at 10:38 where they compare alcohol and weed is eye opening. Alcohol has worse side effects, it is more addictive, more expensive, etc. And still the host and the interviewed pretend to not understand why youth is shifting from alcohol to marijuana. I'm okay with Singapore's laws as it is - when you count up all the pluses and minuses in real outcomes, there is way less harm altogether in Singapore than anywhere else. My last joint was in 2010, and if I could go back in time I would probably try to tell myself not to try it in the first place. No regrets though. BUT, alcohol is waaaaaay more harmful. I stopped drinking as well by the way. Not judging others but I'm glad I've weened myself off a lot of these things. All drugs will have good and bad effects depending on the way it is used. Morphine is an incredibly effective and useful drug to relieve severe pain especially for after major surgeries. But morphine too is extremely addictive and can also cause serious or life threatening medical issues in its ease of overdosing. And yet we still use Morphine in careful medical prescriptions because we cannot overlook its medical benefits. Why not do the same to Cannabis, make it medically available through proper medical perscriptions; it is harmful when abused or misused but when used correctly we too should not overlook its benefits. Whlist you are pondering on this subject, remember that cigarettes and alcohol are readily available in Singapore that are undoubtly the cause of various medical illnesses (and also agreed by government it is harmful when abused). In Singapore, tobacco kills approximately 2,500 smokers and 250 non-smokers each year. Singapore also has a relatively high prevalence of 12-month heavy drinking of 12.6% of adults, and lifetime heavy drinking of 15.9% of adults. What possible justification is there for allowing these highly addictive drugs in Singapore despite all these harmful irreparable damage to society? Oh yeah, tax money. This talking point documentary is incredibly bias and probably more so because it is heavily screened by the Central Narcotics Bureau to send the bias mesasge it has been trying to convince for decades that Cannabis is as harmful as Heroin or Methamphetamine; and demands decades of jail sentencing and/or being sent to the gallows for being an offender.

The comments section really displays how ignorant and close minded many Singaporeans are. - You need to specify which "drug" you are talking about as their effects vary greatly. - Weed is less damaging than alcohol or nicotine - Many drugs are highly addictive with more side effects, including medical ones that are used in Singapore. - Weed addiction happens in 1 in 10 users estimated, and varies with age and frequency of use - Alcoholism is much more damaging. - Assuming someone is consuming weed just because he is against it's ban just makes you look like a clown. At the end of the day, large majority of Singaporeans are manipulated by the government into docile sheep, none of us can do anything to change this either way. Their country, their rules, we are just their workers that happen to be born here.

Alcohol is more of a poison than weed and yet it’s condoned in this video and also legal in Singapore. Hilarious. I love how the host emphasizes how disgusting it is to leave joints around but what about leftover vodka that toddlers could slurp? At the very least, focus on fentanyl which is actually a horrible drug.

The shocked face of the reporter during interviews haha. Had my share of weed during university days. Good times! It's much easier on the body than alcohol to take the edge off after a stressful week. Not much interest in it as an older guy. It's now fully legal in my country and I don't see it around anymore than before. I would not say it's not harmful of course. Edibles and synthetic especially can be more dangerous. In terms of comparison to other drugs, I think classical psychedelics are safer and weed is safer than the rest. It would still fall in the personal range bad choices of an adult, as junk food, cigarette and alcohol. Actually the social and health harm is much worst for alcohol and we trust people with it. For a good overview of the health effects of cannabis, huberman has an excellant podcast on the subject.

@mathieug6136
@mathieug6136 Жыл бұрын
@@constitutionalcarrot3720 its basically a different drug when it's eaten. It is first decarboxilated and then processed by the liver. It ends up being much stronger, like factor 4, and the effect don't saturate as quickly as if innaled. It also takes about an hour to kick in, so it's hard to manage the desired effect accurately. The typical bad story is someone makes some brownies at home, eat some, don't feel much and decide to eat more just to start feeling the effect 5 minutes after. The effect is then way too strong and they might have a horrible time. Some might need to get medical attention then. This can't happen while inhaled as the effect is almost instant and it saturates, meaning it gets harder and harder to get higher.

@@constitutionalcarrot3720 I mentioned it needs to be decarboxilated. This means it needs to be put in the oven for a while. It is then fat soluble. @alhkcblack9617

I think more and more Western countries are legalizing cannabis because their societies are becoming more and more chaotic and stressful. Legalizing it chills out the population a bit and less civil unrest. Singapore can consider legalizing it eventually since it's not much worse than alcohol and better for you than cigarettes. There are also lots of medicinal uses for marijuana. Pain relief one of them and marijuana derivatives like CBD oil which has all sorts of good benefits with which don't produce a high since THC is reduced or removed. It helps as anti inflammatory helps with anxiety and sleep as well as immune system booster. Fun fact. Marijuana was once an herb used by traditional Chinese medicine. It was for digestive symptoms. Regulate it tax it and standardize it so it's safe. The reality is many people who get addicted to anything is because they have a personality that is prone to addictions. If not marijuana he'll be an alcoholic or a fatty food binger. People even can get high off ink markers and cough syrup. A lot of things can have destructive outcomes if you abuse it. In order to succeed a society must adapt. If something has potential to benefit your society you should at least keep an open mind and not draw hard lines. What if one day it's discovered a marijuana product is found to cure a serious disease? Will Singaporeans have to travel to Thailand to get cured?!
